>just learned that our company did more layoffs>they cut the ERP team yet again>our ENTIRE business software environment (everything from accounts receivable to accounts payable and eveything in between) is being maintained by a single senior and junior developer Is this common or bat shit insane like I think it is?
How do people give interviews if they have jobs? You're usually required to be available to give the interview in the morning. Idk how you're supposed to give an interview when you can't take a sick day off for every interview you have.

>>108694732Sorry gweilo, we're full
Woke up this morning and had a ‘moment of clarity’ about just how much AI has fucked everything up. Things are profoundly, structurally different than they were just a few years ago. Fear and demoralization among tech workers seems like it’s hitting a kind of crescendo recently. This doesn’t seem sustainable. If Mythos doesn’t flop then we might see companies and tech workers start acting in extreme ways
>>108694846>AIRetard. AI is the scapegoat they're just replacing the workforce with more jeets
>>108694853That’s part of it but there has been a definite push toward changing the way software is built, involving reorienting design principles to incorporate LLMs as much as possible. Also there’s a strong emphasis on working fewer and fewer people harder and harder. And more roles are just seemingly permanently disappearing.
>>108693777The AIs port everything to Rust or C/C++ to make it run faster and save on hardware.
>>108693699>uh ... OK.

Let me know when AI stops destroying jobs and starts creating them.
>>108693699>Hey Chat GPT, create a viral marketing campaign to bust unions and import lower paid construction workers.
>>108692055I FUCKING HATE LINKEDIN GODDAMIT
Does anyone actually enjoys using AI? I enjoyed programming but I haven't found using AI at work even remotely enjoyable. They gave me a personal ChatGPT subscription to use on my free time and I tried to do a couple of projects then got bored and dropped them. So far I have only used it for web scrapping.
>>108695320I use it for scripting or as a sounding board. Anything really lightweight or basically like a search engine. For real dev it’s a fucking pain going through all the slop. People say you have to just componentize everything then review the output but idk if that’s really any faster
>>108695320enjoy? no but it's not like I have a choicethe kind of development im asked to do and pace it's only possible by prompting multiple agents simulataneously, it would take forever to type the code
>>108695320I use it whenever I'm given some gay boring shit project that I have no interest in (yet another generic CRUD app), which lets me continue focusing on the ones I have an interest in
>>108693699You just know the snarky faggots that put this sign up are snobbish, pudgy little middle-class office workers who've never worked manual labour a day in their lives, only using the existence of tradies as a power fantasy. >>108696778>whatever that sells easily>walkie talkiesUSB SDRs fell out of the meme sphere and you can get a baomeme handset for like 40$ on amazon and everyone knows it. on top of that no one uses that shit anymore, even the military larpers just get ruggedized cellphones. radio is hella dead
if we lived in a real society and not a fucked up foid dominated gynocracy then putting screenshots of my 2,000 hour modded factorio autism base on my resume would instantly get me interviews at all of fagman
>>108696849satisfactory is better
>>108696337Is the one page rule even applicable to jobs that require actual skills like gamedev? It clearly isn't in academia. Most people I have seen talking about this one page thing are those working in consultancy, business, management, etc, or codemonkey roles, where they don't have much to put in their CV except for world salad. I can't even fit my undergrad projects in one page.
>>108696886depends on cuntry but in the United States of Goycattle the "CV" is a "resume" and is treated as a short summary, and the "CV" as in Curriculum Vitae is your entire body of work accessible elsewhere, usually called your portfolio instead.here in canuckistan two pages is the usual standard (a holdover from paper resume days and canadians not being too retarded to enable Two-Sided Printing) but still, you fit it on one physical sheet of 8.5x11 and if the employer cares you have a separate portfolio of your actual body of work.so in the gamedev example you'd have your resume which is what technologies you know and where you worked, but you're expected to have a well populated linkedin or IMDB page or something, or at least a devblog. from what ive heard the same happens in film. your resume is just a list of what unions you're in and job titles you've held, if they want to know more they go to your IMDB Pro page to see what you actually had your hand in and how good or bad it is.
If I was a hiring manager It would be really simple>indian name? -> trash>meet the minimum requirements for the job or near the minimum? -> no? -> trash>sort the remaining applicants:>1. interesting candidates (you put screenshots of your modded factorio base in your resume, or you're emerald in league, or you spent 1,000 hours getting all shiny pokemon in the pokedex)>2. most qualified candidates>3. everyone elseI could process 500 of these applications a day
it's that easy

>>108694866Fundamentally, things haven't changed from a practical standpoint. The Pareto Principle is more optimized with AI. There's no way for the lazy devs to weasel themselves away out of work.

Constantly changing requirements, nonexistent documentation, falsified hardware reports, security violations, employees not knowing what team they're on, a revolving door of management thrown into the program as punishment for their previous failures. Unwinnable situation. >>108702427>>108702613What kinda question is this? You use all the methods. Sometimes staring at it just works. Stepping through sometimes makes it immediately apparent too, but not always. Lots of debug printing is often very helpful if multiple applications are involved. Sometimes you have to get even more creative because printing is expensive and the issue has to do with timing/race conditions. Or maybe it's a heap corruption that happened awhile ago in some completely different part of the code. Sometimes it "works on my machine" but not your T&E guy's and you have to make him special builds with special logging. Sometimes the bug is in a library you are using that is not open source or the operating system and not your fault at all, but you still have to come up with a workaround. Sometimes the bug is in the hardware and you need to poke things with a multimeter or stare at an oscilloscope.
honestly I've been coping by just laughing at brainrot, am i cooked
>>108702427exactly this >>108702678. you use whatever works. if print() works, then that's great. if the bug is much more complex, then you use debugging tools.asking the question like that shows lack of experience. and I say that as someone who is NOT a dev by trade.
>>108696886The cv is just a way to get a list of people to interview. All you need to add per project is the title, what you used and what it achieved. If they are curious about it they will ask you at the interview. No one at a big company that gets a thousand applicants per position is going to read cvs longer than a page. In academia it might be different but that's because the applicants per position is much lower.
>>108701943>it had to do with the federal reserve, their 0 interest rate policyWhich raised the rates why? Because of the world instability the full-scale Russo-Ukrainian crisis brought on the world!

>>108702821raised rates because the pandemic was already over, and there was too much stupid money.the boom was caused by them, by not raising rates earlier. but AFAIU (I don't really have the numbers, so no evidence) tech companies had a lot of cash in hand, so much that they needed to invest it somewhere (and still have it). or so is the reasoning and explanation behind the AI bubble.

>>108694122You save your sick days. Unless you have serious health issues, nobody's actually using up their sick days because they're actually sick unless they have a drinking problem. If that's you, stop drinking on work nights. Then, when you have interviews, either call out or say you have a doctor's appointment / car repair / some other errand they can't reasonably say no to.If you're truly short on time, ask if the company you're applying to is willing to accommodate a 5pm interview. It's an inconvenience on them, but it also suggests to them you're definitely currently working and your work is serious enough you can't take time off.Employers hate it when someone is unemployed or seems too flexible with their schedule. It suggests their time isn't actually that valuable.
>>108695187I think my company is trying to do this to me now, but too stupid to realize I've been on the verge of suing them for the last five months. Only set the plan aside because they dramatically raised my pay, but then continued with petty illegal bs like trying to mess with my tax returns.Wouldn't be for much. Some payroll fraud, retaliatory behavior, promissory estoppel, among other things. But the main key is it would fuck with another lawsuit they have going on because a third party who's currently suing them would get roped in during discovery.
Speaking about sick days, I'm probably going to use a few this month since I'm so burnt but I have a dentist appointment and I want to just use the full day for it but I can't justify it and my brain's like "uhmm I can just take a half day". I am currently in an "interactive process" with my employer regarding access to Claude AI. Here is why "no" is not a legal or functional answer: 1. The "Effective Accommodation" StandardUnder the ADA, an employer doesn’t just have to give me any tool; they must provide an effective one. Because of my [ADHD/Dyslexia/Cognitive processing] needs, standard tools or lower-tier AI don't work. Claude’s specific "Max Token" context window is the only thing that prevents my "cognitive fragmentation." Providing a tool that doesn't work is the same as providing no tool at all. 2. The "Undue Hardship" MythSome companies point to subscription costs or recent price hikes as a reason to deny access. But legally, "undue hardship" means an expense that would cripple the company. For a professional organization, a $20–$30 monthly fee is a negligible "business expense" compared to the cost of losing a trained employee or facing a discrimination lawsuit. 3. Leveling the Playing FieldIf you wouldn't tell a hearing-impaired employee to "just listen harder," you cannot tell a neurodivergent employee to "just read faster." Without Claude, I am being judged on a disability I cannot change. With it, I am a top-tier contributor. Denying the tool is intentionally choosing to keep me at a disadvantage. 4. The "Or Else" of Non-ComplianceThe EEOC has made it clear: AI is the new frontier of disability rights. Employers who refuse to adapt or hide behind "IT security" without exploring secure Enterprise versions are opening themselves up to formal EEOC complaints and legal liability. The Bottom Line:I am not asking for a "favor." I am asking for the tools required to do the job I was hired to perform. It’s time for HR departments to stop viewing AI as a toy and start viewing it as the essential assistive technology it has become.#ADACompliance #DisabilityRights #WorkplaceEquity #ClaudeAI #Neurodiversity #InclusiveLeadership #EEOC

Any UK man in?
How do I move forward, I have almost 10 YOE in analyst/SWE roles. Left a no-name crypto startup 5 months ago and haven't been searching that much. I have maybe 10k left in savings and 2 apartments, renting one to pay the loan for the other. I'm from EU so not concerned about ending up on the street/starving but my plan was to go back to uni to finish my undergrad next year. My parents still think I'm employed, and I really want to avoid borrowing money from them. I'm just too embarrassed to even apply since every job wants at least a diploma now even though I have way more experience than most fresh college grads.
>>108707818you should kill yourself NOW. and give somebody else a piece of that oxygen in the atmosphere, in this blue trapped bubble. what are you here for? i mean that with a hunnet percent. a thousand percent.
>>108708089Just apply anyway.
>>108708089>every job wants at least a diplomathey always ask for it, but ignore that and apply anyway>t. 35 years experience, no degrees, certs or clearances
>>108708114I don't give a shit about other peoplein fact my life would be significantly better if certain people / groups of people didn't existtelling me to kill myself because "muh other people want to live more than you!!!" is the worst argument you could've madefuck you

Would you describe a cleaned, denormalised analytical database, containing a standardised set of data from multiple group companies, as a data warehouse? We did, and have it on my CV as such, but when I attend data engineering interviews they assume I did the facts and dimension tables as well, but those were contracted out to a BI consultant that setup our BI system
>>108707395What if I said I was a house husband for those two years but we split amicably because it turns out im infertile, thats pity and progressive points right?

>>108707688ah yes, escaping retardation by watching eceleb slop
>>108708275>Man not providing for his woman with 2 jobs as a househusband gives me the ICK. A woman doing chores and errands is emotional/mental labor and financial abuse. But for man its the minimum standard.
>>108708344TV shows are eceleb slop except the celebs are fake and retarded and jewish. At least streamers are racist and not getting fucked by jewish hollywood producers.
>>108708376>Not jewish>Not funded by corporate mediaanon Mr Beast/Asmon/Hasan and many many others are working for Night media under a Disney subsidiary. Its estimated that 95% of top youtubers are paid talent. Vtubers is more transparent about it since 99% of them are paid talent.
Hey, need some help here. What should I do when I'm constantly like>Hmm, I should start on this task or mention this to my boss>Yeah but then it'll be your responsibility and it always ends up fucking bigger than it actually is>end up staying silent, don't do anything at workI can't seem to push for any motivation at all, even urgent asks just feel to me like I really don't want to deal with this anymore.... I'd take a sick day but I'm covering part of two people's workload (it isn't too bad but one can have a lot of hectic people screaming while the other one is there's problems all the freaking time which I could probably fix the "root cause" but then it'll be a whole bunch of responsibility and extra work and then it's like do I really want to stick my nose in this?)

>>108708395Lol yeah, fuck bosses that have a "well looks like you've volunteered to fix it" attitude, it creates a culture of people not bothering to report anything
At what point should one consider the disrespect and marginalisation by co-workers too much?If they all invite each other to go get coffee but exclude you?If they forget to mention you as part of the team?If they didn't add you to the team chat?
Behavioural interviews reward liars, they turn everyone into liars because everyone who prepares for one is going to twist details of the stories they might be asked to tell.I guarantee NPD people with a little self awareness are the best at passing these things.
