Is there a version that works on Linux and is the code open source? I'm not running a mystery-meat hypervisor from a game cracker unless I can read the source.
>>
>>108694719
you actually get the source for the drivers. it's pretty readable too. thing is this special snowflake hypervisor bullshit is only needed for winblows because they block truly transparent hw virt by enforcing the use of hyperv. this doesn't seem to affect linux, but the spoofing code seems pretty entwined with the HV the way it's written.

>Who the fuck plays pirated games except on a dedicated piracy gaming PC?
Good point, I literally stopped using Windows, because I was afraid... I never got a virus from *le trusted sources* at least not an obvious one. Nowadays I only pirate on Linux. Games running in a Prefix (fake Windows environment) inside a sandboxed bottle. Without Internet, access to my home dir and all without admin/sudo.

So even if there is a Virus. It's most likely written for Windows. And as I said its running without any privileges... and in a Flatpak without any permission.
>>
>>108695361
it's honestly pretty nuts, i first tried Wine around 2006 or so. i remember when you'd expect a new game to take a year or two to even start to become playable at least. i remember when Wine hit "1.0".
these days, Wine and Linux in general have improved with regards to gaming/windows games so much that you can basically /expect/ windows games to work day 1, and work /well/. it's really only copy protection and other artificial restrictions like denuvo that still get in the way.

Most Flatpaks have shit defaults. For example giving access to your whole /home Dir, instead of just what the App actually needs. This is fine for most Apps, because you can trust something like GIMP, LibreOffice or Krita. And people get filiterd by too strict permissions, take the Steam Flatpak for example. People say:"Wtf, Flatpak sucks, Steam can't see my 2nd drive" Yea... No shit. Because it doesn't have the perms to see it.

Bottles is a great example for a very strict Flatpak, it can't see anything by default and you have to actually copy Games or Files into a bottle to make it work. (Or give it permissions to see ~/Games)

I hope that Flatpaks perms get like Android perms, where they ask you "Do you want to allow XXX to see /this/path/" or something like "Do you want to grant XXX access to your camera?"

Honestly, check out bottles and flatseal. You can literally take away internet access with 1 click

>>
>>108695031
You can do Single GPU passthrough, they'll make it sound like it's too much work but it's actually pretty easy.

Or you can use virtual functions (GPU partitioning). Intel Arc GPUs are best for this, it's also possible to do it with NVIDIA with something called vGPU unlock, but only if you have RTX 20xx or lower

That's fine, I always trust the default packaging system on my distro, if we don't trust ist, why even running their distro, right?
>Since you recommended Bottles and Flatseal, can I somehow use them together with Lutris where I have all my games listed?
I don't want to cause any fear, nix is a cool distro and declarative and thats the selling point, so enabling flatpak feels weird, especially for 1 app. Just stick with your setup, but you could look into Firejail and Bubblewrap for hardening.

If you are running Linux, you are already much more secure running potential windows malware games. Don't go to deep into that rabbit hole.
>>
>>108694664
>every single game cracked

I love piracy as much as the next guy but there is legitimately zero reason to pirate video games past 2015, and if you really want to play modern slop then just buy a key or wait for a sale, it's really not that deep.
>>
>>108697904
>I always trust the default packaging system on my distro
I do, but sometimes they pull binaries straight from the developers' sites or GitHub releases (even when open source), which is a bit uncomfortable when it's supposed to be a source-based distro.
>but you could look into Firejail and Bubblewrap for hardening
Bubblewrap seems to be what I'm looking for, but I'll have to rely on some random guy's flake to get it nicely integrated with my Nix config.
>Don't go to deep into that rabbit hole.

all the security features are concrete security by depth that works great on macos and ios and to an extent android, only because those systems were well secured to begin with that these safeguards are a significant impediment to vuln exploitation. this is not the case with windows.
