>better mic
>better post-processing
>records phone calls
>records from aux
>longer recording time
>small and discreet

hi-bias chromium tape media is literally sandpaper and anything not new original stock will have garbage for heads

Microcassette recorders have shit audio quality. Even for schizoid ramblings a simple digital recorder like >>108697918 would be a massive improvement and would be significantly more reliable.

Digital media will go extinct and then what are you left with? Analog is the future

digital doesn't degrade gracefully, degraded tapes eventually sound different, which is essential for schizomaxxing

what about rotational velocidensity?

>simple digital recorder
he wants tape. if he wanted digital one he could have just used phone.

No, if we're talking about schizomaxxing, you're gonna want something you can use to wear a wire in the year 2026 with moderate success for the price.

Do not underestimate the audio quality of the ICD-UX570. I own one. "simple digital recorder" is a bit of an understatement. You can save profiles for different mic settings, for aux mics and the built-in mics. So, you can have a profile for different environments, or on-body configurations.

What do you use it for?

Voice notes, which I don't really ever check or listen to, the act of making the recording is usually enough for me to remind myself, and ppe for dealing w/ crazy people in a one-party consent state. If I ever had to make a quality recording of my own voice, it could also be used for that. It surprisingly good for v/o work. Mostly, it's for self-defense, though.

Surprised you're not throwing recordings into a folder...whisper ai transcription, analysis, etc

That's too much extra work.

I actually have top right. I prefer my digital recorder. It has a function to stop it from shutting down when not in use, so just like the tape recorder one button with no boot up and it's recording. It's more practical, a tape records linearly, if you don't want to keep something you can tape over it, but then what about the next one? To listen to a recording you need to rewind it and hit play after you recorded it rather than simply selecting the recording and playing it. The audio quality on microcassette is also terrible, a digital recorder is obviously far better.
My point is, it's a fun thing to have, but you likely won't use it much compared to a digital recorder. If you just really want tape because you like tape technology, I recommend a full sized cassette recorder, the sound quality is orders of magnitude better than microcassette. Not as good as digital though. Whatever you get, make sure it has a tape counter, micro or full sized. My full sized is an Optimus CTR-116, great recorder but pretty big.

Oh, my digital is a Sony ICD-PX312. I like it because it won't shut itself down so no boot up to record. Sound quality wise my Olympus WS-500M is a bit better and even records in stereo, but the inbuilt mic sucks compared to the Sony and it shuts down when not in use, no way to disable that.

Tapes don't degrade unless they are being played a lot, stored near a magnetic field, or extreme heat (hot cars ruined cassettes back in the day). I have mid and late 60s music cassettes, early versions before the pressure pad was on a spring and the case wasn't figured out yet. I replaced the pressure pads and they sound fine. There are much older reel to reel tapes that also kept their fidelity. I have digitized many 35+ year old family recorded cassette tapes, the also sound perfectly fine.
