I'm the kind of autist that stresses out about stray files sitting in my system after a failed or incomplete install/uninstall, I did a clean reinstall of windows several times because of this, is linux for me?
>>

absolutely not, try uninstalling shit that needs to be compiled and "installed" like it's 1994 on Nintendo's Silicon Graphics workstations
it's very similar to windows minus the registry leftovers, instead you have config file and compilation file leftovers
also ebussy sucks, at least with windows 11 you have the gaki uoh gotta correct her while the arch linux girl will behave like a bpdmaxxed menhera on steroids and will eventually develop mutism where she only says "look it up on the arch wiki"
>>
>>108700981
but maybe there's a way to not have arch linux behave like a bpd menhera when you update or want to do real stuff? good luck either way

You sound like the perfect nixos candidate.
>>

That's the problem that snap/flatpak were invented to solve.

Fedora atomic/ublue are made for scaredy-ass bitches like (you)
>>
>>108700669
You need linux from scratch
>>
>>108700669
use Fedora Silverblue lol it's basically like is everything was a self contained app
>>
>>108700669
yes, atomic/immutable desktops are for you. fedora silverblue/kinoite, opensuse microos/aeon/kalpa, and bazzite for gaming.

Yes and no. Removing a package, for example gimp will leave the config file in ~/.config/GIMP and the appdata is in ~/.local/share/GIMP

BUT there is also Flatpak, some anons already mentioned it, you can install apps with 1 click and uninstall them with 1 click, everything is contained in 1 place and it even asks you, if you want to delete the userdata, like an Android app.

Is this perfect? No, but it's good and predictable. I was just like you on windows, hunting stray data everywhere... and after 6 months, the system feels dirty and I'd reinstall.

That'sOCD not autism

Nta but i have both lmao.
Autistic people are more likely to have ocd and imo ocd is worse than autism.
