i can guarantee every laptop manufacturer will switch to this hot dogshit in order to save a few more dollars instead of making actually decent competing machines to the Macbook Neo that's raping the market currently as companies jew themselves to death
>>
The best part is that it's obviously a scam to undermine the home computer market. They didn't go to Samsung/SK hynix/Micron and ask them to produce DDR5 modules with half the capacity and half the bandwidth because that would be cheaper.

No. They've castrated the DIMM and put the exact same DDR5 chips on it that you would put on a regular DDR5 DIMM, then gaslit (You) that this is to "make things cheaper during the crisis". They're counting on the fact that the majority of people are retards that don't understand the supply chain so that they can fuck them over while pretending they're helping.

It's the same idea as oil companies jacking up the prices of fuel and blaming these spikes on the Strait of Hormuz being unusable, knowing that the average person doesn't know Iran and Hormuz are not the sole points of distribution of oil, nor are they a majority of it. But the average person is too retarded, the average person only ever reads sensational headlines and doesn't do any research on their own, so they'll buy that bullshit and think they need to pay a premium for gas is because of the war, and not because they're getting their rectal cavity penetrated with no lube.

Eventually this will be the only new RAM available to consumers, even for custom PC builds. Or it'll come soldered to MOBOs that have no additional RAM slots.
>>
>>108700972
>Or it'll come soldered to MOBOs
Retard-kun... those are the exact same DDR5 modules that go on full-spec DIMM's. This is pure jewery aimed at fucking (You) over, and if this shit came soldered, the raw price of the DDR5 chips themselves would be the same as in classic full DIMM's. Asrock didn't change the specification of the memory chip itself which is what's so retardedly expensive as the RAM cartel trio is focused purely on manufacturing HBM chips, and the amazing cost saving of this new technology is that they get to peddle you a worse product and tell you this is for your own good. The cost saving is that they can put less of those expensive chips on the same DIMM to ship a working system.
>>
>>108700886
>half the bandwidth and half the capacity
Why not just call it a SIMM? That's basically what it is.
>>
>>108700999
>pure jewery
>ram cartel trio
>retard-kun
schizo /g/eet build logs aside, if it was such a scam nobody would buy it.
sometimes cheaper + smaller + good enough beats your sacred rectangle of pcb.
>>
>>108701021
>ram cartel trio
>schizo /g/eet
DOJ called them that, it's not a schizo conspiracy. It's a fact that's written into US law. They've done it back at the brink of the millennium and they're doing it again because they're scumbags.

>>
>>108700886
basically qlc/plc but for ram
>>
>>108700940
anon, if asia cant get oil from their usual suppliers they'll get it from other suppliers, this makes oil expensive on a global scale. welcome to the global economy
>>
>>108701052
Meh, don't be a Panican. The president is smart and good on the economy. He'll keep oil cheap for us with our own production + taking what's ours from freed Venezuela.
>>
>>108701021
there is no way a 16gb ram stick can cost more than a motherboard (bios chips, ethernet and audio controllers, power circuitry, ram slots, cpu socket, chipset silicon etc vs bunch of ram chips on a pcb)
>>
>>108701079
It's called supply and demand retard. Altman bought up all the supply, but demand remained the same. So prices go up.
>>
>>108700886
>half the bandwidth
>half the capacity
oh wow. so they just soldered DDR4 onto a DDR5 pcb

>>108700972
no, you stupid doomer retard. there are literally MILLIONS of DDR5 sticks sitting in the warehouses, already shipped, waiting for some retard to pay the insane mark-up.
>>
>>108701087
he didn't buy shit, you gullible retard. the current prices are purely on market-speculation alone. the datacenters which (((could))) use the ram aren't even build
>>
>>108700886
not my problem
>t. DDR3chad
>>
>>108701044
>They've done it back at the brink of the millennium and they're doing it again
They're not stupid, they're not doing the same again. This time they gave a few million dollars for some guy to build a ballroom before they did the price fixing thing, therefore it's completely legal now. Yhvh bless democracy.
>>
Its basically ddr4, and I still have a machine that uses ddr3. The only reason why it could be "hotdogshit" is because no one optimizes anything anymore.
>>
>>108700940
I mean yeah, you arent wrong.
>>
>>108700886
>laptops
>moving to socketed DIMM
No, they’re sticking with LPDDR
>>
>>108700886
Can we get our governments to terminate the supply chain to these manufacturers if they don't deliver DDR5 to our consumer markets?

The answer for the USA may be no but the rest should often want to protect their organizations and companies and end users.
>>
>>108702711
it's actually worse, dual channel ddr4 4000MT/s+ has more bandwidth than the crippled DDR5 HUDIMM
>>
>>108701065
>The president is smart and good on the economy
kys.
>>
>>108702751
why? what use-case as a consumer do you have to DDR5? why should the government intervene in an entertainment-purpose industry?
>>
>>108701048
No? Its just half a dimm, its only possible because a 64 bit ddr5 dimm channel is actually 2x32 channels.
>>
>>108700886
>NEW: DDR4 rebranded as DDR5
Clown world alert
>>
>>108702860
Hospitals, companies and everyone have interest in DDR5 and HBM.

I should have added HBM too, sorry.
>>
>>108702876
that isn't consumer though and they can make do with alternative computing needs. so again, why do you need DDR5? you're literally insignificant.
>>
>>108700886
>make ram expensive AND slow
they're trying to make it so that you can't use AI locally.
>>
>>108702895
no? everyone could be a SME ai enterpreneur, they too said so.

hospitals may need AI data centers and so on too. the market must be supplied
>>
>>108702949
then they're more than willing to pay ENTERPRISE ^tm solutions then.
>>
Reminder that Windows XP and MacOS X only needed 128MB of RAM. You are using wasteful amounts of RAM in 2026.
>>
>>108703005
>needed
those days are over. modern os' need more. stop living in the past.
>>
>>108703156
This, technology is bloated now. It's made for consoomers and to shill products and collect data. And that's a good thing because it's all the modern end user deserves. In fact, the state of software is too good for end users and should hopefully get worse

unironically
>>
>>108702751
>governments
the US government in 2026 is purely for grifting and pushing another shitcoin to extract more pennies from ze goyim
>>
>>108700886
Is that old DDR3 stock?
>>
I won't buy apple shit regardless of how you attempt to shill it
>>
>>108700886
I wonder if all this tech regression is an actual conspirancy by crazies like Musk and Thiel to prevent or make it far more expensive to use local LLMs, like >>108702931 said.

>>108701021
anon was right to call you a retard.

the production of ram is mostly automated. This shortage will pass and prices will crash. It always does.
>>
>>108703156
"""modern""" fucking windows treats your nvme ssd as a scsi drive, the retardation present in new software is unprecedented.
>>
is this just a new way to say one bank dram
>>
>>108708416
They halve the channel width from 64 bit to 32 bit, take a guess
>>
Don't be a luddite
>>
>>108708681

2x32bit be DDR5 feature

i can not keep up with 32-PAE, AMD64 v1 v2 v3 v4 that close
>>
>>108700940
based and correct but goyim are retarded slave cattle that aren't allowed to question things
>>
>>108700886

what is the point. Why put this out there.

>>
>>108700886
If it's a quarter of the price?
>>
>>108710575
This is going to make buying second hand ram and systems an absolute hell.
>>
>>108710506
they'll slap some rgb on it and then put it in prebuilts with 5060 8gb gpus and whatever chip intel gives them a deal on.
>>
>>108700886
>half memory
>half capacity
no, thanks. in that case i would rather pay few extra dollars to apple
>>
>>108700940
>It's the same idea as oil companies jacking up the prices of fuel
It's well known that oil producing countries have engaged several times through history in plain not extracting oil just to artificially jack up the prices.
Same shit with storage companies magically having their factories flooded every time the price per gb is too low.
>>
>>108702860
>why should the government intervene in an entertainment-purpose industry?
For the well-being of the population.
