I'd imagine someone making a hack to emulate said middleware so it wont need steam if that were the case. But if it needs some online check then that might be less straightforward.

>>108707858Didn't Gamer Nexus just get blacklisted by AMD a week ago?
>>108707451Theoretically it's also supported on Windows with SDL, but most developers don't use SDL, because why would you use a library that abstracts hardware and interfaces of wide range of OSes in a simple way, when you can reinvent the bicycle for the thousandth time shitting yourself along the way and producing subpar products?
>>108708474What advanced features. Without steam input the trackpads work but the buttons don't. What other joypads disable the buttons if you don't install their proprietary software? If anything it's backwards since the advanced features work but the basic functionality does not.

What's the point of buying something like a steam controller if you just want it neutered to Xbox standards anyway?
>>108708671Windows issues? Every gamepad in the past decade worked cross platform across Android and iOS. Where's your Steam malware always running in the background for those platforms?
>>108708556they probably did because they've been palmed off to a low level PR firm, but they sort of jumped the gun in stating it because AMD didn't sample them the 9950X3D 2 but AMD also didn't sample most outlets which is a weird move in itself.
>>108702988Why isn't a review or interview from Adam Savage's Tested? Norman has done the best Steam hardware coverage for a long time so it's unusual that they've been left out from this Steam Controller launch.

>>108703029i genuinely do wish they spent some time making steam itself better desu, even on a good computer it's so slow and it just feel bloated to use. sure, all apps are like that nowadays, but that doesn't mean yours have to be the same

Years ago it would have been a toss up on which tech-related community is the worst between Applefags, Linuxfags, and Valvefags, but now that the Linuxfags have absorbed the Valvefags and Applefags have fucked off since they never really cared about fucking around with hacky crap, the ValveLinuxfaggot convention is by far the most insufferable online community, on the level of tankies on Bluesky/Reddit. The worst part of this isn't even that Valve needs to pay shills, it's that their rabid fanbase wants to suck Gaben's cock so much that most would PAY Valve to be their shills.

>>108704050I love you, you kindle joy in my heart whenever I see your post. Only the Artifact schizo makes me happier.
I use my og steam controller daily with my laptop docked to my tv. I never use it for games, I'd rather use an xbox style controller like my cyclone 2. But for the times I don't want a bulky keyboard/mouse tray setup to navigate a desktop in bed it's by far the best option. The new controller though>no dual stage triggers and/or locking triggers>plastic looks like the same cheap bs as the old controller>proprietary puck thing and no stand>playstation stick layoutI don't think the tradeoffs are worth $100. Maybe $70.
>>108703029>>108703043>>108703163>>108703139niggers, what the fuck are you doing?
>>108713020Hey now, that's at least on a PCB. The Steam controller takes its design from Sony's budget slop, it's a fucking membrane with a cheap plastic shell to replace the FRP. And they fucked up the contacts so diagonals will be impossible.
>>108707451it is still a bit weird cause my xbox, ps4 and switch controllers also just work:tm: on both my lin distro and the windows I moved away fromgood to know itll work for me but that is marketing wise something that undermines the pricetag
>>108713805>playstation stick layoutIt's the Steam Deck layout
>>108714552It’s another lawsuit for stealing again
>>108707869Oh wow AIDF showed up
>inb4>Steam Controller released>people actually get their hands on it>turns out the Loonix driver doesn't make it work as a controller OOTB>Lincucks still need Steam Input to actually use it>both /g/ and /v/ Linuxtards go into full damage control mode after preemptively declaring victory
>>108707730Can't some controllers use the gyro to move the mouse cursor?Either way, my htpc has both a controller and picrel connected to it.
>>108714116god dammit, you're right. Where a rubber dome and membrane like that on a keyboard GN would be calling it ewaste.
>>108715545>turns out the Loonix driver doesn't make it work as a controller OOTBIsn't this normal? Pretty sure the old Steam Controller also has mouse + kb bindings by default if it's not remapped by Steam.
>>108715639It's technically different on a keyboard, we're talking about carbon coated membranes here while keyboards are multi layer stacks because they're designed as cheaply as possible. It's still the cheapest possible way to make a controller, and it's a design that Sony spent a decade perfecting to save on PCB costs while making the lowest quality controllers imaginable.
>>108713906Yes, wtf. Btw, wtf is the deal with the bots, hackers and r*ssians on cs2, literally unplayable, worst game of all time. Probably the same with deathloop, not gonna even try that shit, will ruin my day
>>108703163>>108703505>>108705111My gaming pc literally becomes a 2005 laptop everytime steam or spotify opens up. Im too coupled with these, help!
>>108715869If they are not crypto mining with a trojan horse, then I have lost all hope in humanity. Software is dead :'l
>>108715644The old one was stolen Patent that Valve took from Corsair. This is why you can’t buy the original, it’s why a second generation exists. Valve didn’t make it, Corsair did.
>>108713000big 2026 and steam controllers still using contact pads LMAOLIKE A GODDAMN 80S TV REMOTE LIKE A MEMBRANE KEYBOARDWHAT NO SWITCHESIN BIG 2026THAT'LL BE $100 DORRAR PLUS TIP PLUS DRM LOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL
I can see them dripping the frame out next, since it uses a ready baked SOC sold by Qualcomm it should in theory be easier to obtain than raw memory for the SM
>>108716484I just don't understand who this controller is for. the DualSense is probably the best, well maintained in-kernel driver, that literally has all these same low cost flaws.
