i posted a couple months ago in an old /gdg/ that i had completed the digital logic design for an 8-bit tile-based gpu.since then, i wrote an in-browser emulator for it to evaluate the design, which helped me catch a couple of logic errors. the emulator allows one to inspect the circuit in action, trace logic states, edit registers and memory, set break points, run scripts, gather gamepad input, and it even includes a basic editor for palettes, tiles, and background planes (pic related). these facilities allow one to essentially program it as if a cpu were connected to it (although it only runs at 24 FPS-ish (the 17 FPS in the thread pic is in hex)). one can even realize per-scanline effects. now it's done and the design is debugged. i still need to document the design, but i feel better about doing that now that i know it works as intended. but really what i ought to do first is make a pretty image to show off it's features.
