it's been a fun year, tinkering and having fun with everything Linux has to offer. hell, mangowm is a phenomenal desktop and I hope to see it again after it's matured.but Ubuntu 26.04 just released, and it's time for the adults to come back home and get to work. hell it didn't even have the small papercuts the pre-x.1 releases usually have, it's just that darn good, I feel right at home again.
how's ubuntu? ive never tried it.
>>108706259Thanks, but I’m sticking with Windows 11 for desktop use. I do have Ubuntu 26.04 in WLS2.
>>108706278comfy and just werks>>108706305honestly, fair
Ubuntu, Windows, and MacOS are the only real operating systems.Anything else is just for people pretending to care about "freedom".
Performance jump from 24.04.3 to 26.04 was huge on my Intel ultra series 1 laptop, graphics mostly, but power efficiency too. Went down a few watts.
>>108706587not surprised, Ubuntu has always had better performance than pretty much every other distro on my machines. still don' t know why but I'll take itmaybe that's one of the benefits of collaborating with so many hardware manufacturers
Reminder to switch to the V3 binaries if you're CPU is less than a decade old.echo 'APT::Architecture-Variants "amd64v3";' | sudo tee /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99enable-amd64v3sudo apt updatesudo apt upgradeFree performance boost. You can also revert the rust core utils if you don't want them. See the release notes: https://documentation.ubuntu.com/release-notes/26.04/summary-for-lts-users/
>>108706608I think it's just Intel and what they've put in 7.00 kernel...
>>108706630it's not just 7.0, Ubuntu's always been pretty optimized for Intel in CPU scheduling and power management.
>>108706622do i need to be on ubuntu to try this? i use mint
>>108706259Fedora?
>>108707129Fedora vs Ubuntu is the choice any sane person must make when it comes to Linux. And then of course it's GNOME or KDE. The final choice is if you want LTS or enterprise variant in the Red Hat family.
>>108707753I'll just use actual Debian instead of a pozzed up fork of it
>>108706259just installed the fresh kubuntu and the default window wobble animation effect they have on all windows might just be the most obnoxious thing ever made what tinkertranny thought this looked good
>>108706278I don't know how old this meme is, but nowadays arch is also a justwerks distro. At least I'm not having any problems with it.
>>108707839it works until it doesntmany such cases
>>108707847This. I was one of Arch's strongest soldiers for years, because outside of occasional papercut issues that took 5 minutes to fix, I never had any problems. Then when Plasma 6 came out (something any reasonably stable desktop deferred for at least a few months), my desktop blew up into a horrendously broken mess.
>>108706259That's not Linux Mint, tho. Truly employed people will have their fun until christmas.
>>108706587They also fixed external monitors with Nvidia laptops with this release, at least for me i can finally use my external monitor full refresh rate on hybrid graphics, no need to disable igpu and use vram for basic programs.
>>108706259Same brother, we're fucking home
>>108707837grim, anything other than instantaneous and fast is mental illness.
>>108706964You’ll have to wait until mint bases their release on this one.
