Recently discovered how to upscale anime using mpv, my issue is that everything people recommend online is utter garbage and turns the image into an artifact mess, anything out there that's *actually* good? I don't ask for magic, just for old anime to not look ultra blurry on a 4k display
>>108707405Why did you think it's a good idea to post an 313p example of artifacts on a 2160p upscale?
>>108707405unironically just buy a cart
>>108707435Is enough to get the point across, which is that I'm looking for an upscaler/sharpener that doesn't pull details out the ass and just makes the image less foggy
>>108707405it's supposed to be low quality. same reason why people like 24 fps instead of 60 fps
>>108707405Give this one a try: https://openmodeldb.info/models/4x-AnimeSharp
>an upscaler/sharpener that doesn't pull details out the assthis nigga is trolling
also recently in news high definition streaming with local random noise generator and low fi streaming signal
>>108707621This looks pretty solid>>108707671Nigger you don't get what I mean, low res content looks amazing on the displays they were intended for because they have a much lower native resolution which smooths out the blurriness that would otherwise be visible on 4k, I'm looking for something to at least half-recreate that fidelity
>>108707405Lossless scaling works on video playback too, not just games, get it on steam or pirate it
We use remacri upscaler for animegen, you should try it
>>108707405catmull_rom in linear light
>>108707974siax is pretty good too>>108707689>low res content looks amazing on the displays they were intended for because they have a much lower native resolutionso lower your resolution then? upscalers by definition pull details out the ass and cannot recreate muh fidelity of a CRT. also remember to disable any kind of sharpening filter on your display
>>108707405Jesus Christ on roids do you have nothing else to do than watch cartoon girls eat ramen for fucks sake
>>108707464>sovl vs sovllessboth gan are total garbage
>>108707405just get shaderglass and run a crt shader over it. as long as you know how to set it up for the content's resolution, it easily surpasses any upscaler
>>108708175There are boards on this site that can look down on what /a/ spends their time on but /g/ is not one of them.
>>108707405>/g/ used to cream their collective pants over this
>>108707525zoomers love 60fps interpolated anime.
CRT fixes low res anime unironically
>bought into the 4k memelul
>>108708627get your eyes checked dysgenic retard
>>108707405How about you stop tranime shit and go the fuck outside
>>108707464Upscaling will always muck up the image retard. >get a better bitrate source>use CAS sharpening if the source is too blurry>deal with itPeople like you do not appreciate the originals. It's blurry because it aired that way in the 1980s.
test
>>108707405Are there any CRT filters for anime I can use?
>it's supposed to be low quality>appreciate the originalsnigga give me the dlss5 slop filter equivalent where my low budget ecchi looks like a makoto shinkai movie and i'll never turn it off
>>108708907> It's blurry because it aired that way in the 1980s.People didn't watch a blurry mess back then because the media was very tightly coupled with the hardware.I guess he wants to enjoy that experience as closely as possible. You don't get the original experience by watching shitty conversions.
>>108708613This is the only valid answer. All upscalers look like shit.
>>108708175its either jewish capeshit, animal documentaries or animethats all there is
>>108707405Watch anime on an appropriate display.Modern anime on a 1080p TV. Retro anime on a CRT TV.Alternatively, use a damn phone.
>>108708613Came here to post this.>>108708928Retroarch has a video player. Just load up any video you want then select the shaders you want.
>I learned out to do something unnececssary and retarded that makes things look like shitk/unsubscribe>>108708613>use this obsolete tech to make it look blurrier and shittier broArguably worse than the aislop upscaler faggots.
>>108707405The even more important question is how is one supposed to upscale 720p and 1080p VNs? They look blurry on 1440p and 2160p displays if you use the in-engine bilinear/anisotropic gpu filteringFor videos i've found the default fine but MadVR NGU antialias or soft is nice too, little to no artifacts or making up detail, it looks slightly closer to how it would on a native resolution display.>>108708798>>108708175You have never seen reality tv shows and its audience, even the shittiest of anime is preferable to these horrors from hell.
>>108707405ravu-zoom-ar-r3-rgb.hookCfL_Prediction.glslSSimDownscaler.glsladaptive-sharpen.glsl
>>108712674can also vouch for ravu ar r3 rgb, its also the best upscaler for magpie as well. If you care about accuracy.I also like cunny 4x16 soft (not the oversharpened one)
>>108707405It's been a while since I watched something that old and in bad quality, but back in the day I had the best results with MPC-HC and madVR. I remember madVR has a bunch of different neural upscalers and one of 'em was the best I could get for old stuff on a 4k screen.Don't expect utter magic, if you're viewing some show which was originally 480i and was nuked by some ancient codec into an artifacting mess then you're not going to get any miracles, but it provided an alright image that still looked natural without any of those nasty and obvious upscaling artifacts on top. I don't remember the names exactly, I think it was NGU soft or NGU AA or some such. Install and play around with those and with their parameters.
low res looks better than artificial 4k
