How is framejeet's pro laptop not a scam?

Racism is a sign of someone being low IQ, I feel bad for a lot of you on this website.

What a nonsense thread about nothing.

fuck off back to >>>/pol you racist piece of shit we here at >>>/g/ love indians for their contributions to technology

lol, lmao even.

But framework really is one of the last companies that resists planned obsolescence so they don't deserve the kind of hate OP is dishing out thoughbeit.

Overpriced, sure. Not a scam if you can pop out and replace the SSD once it dies in 5-10 years. On a fagbook, you're required to drop another $2,000 on a laptop when the SSD dies because it's welded in place lol.
>>
>>108708680
>framework really is one of the last companies that resists planned obsolescence
haha yes totally, resisting planned obsolescence by charging you DIY parts that cost more upfront + over the span of a decade than just buying new one.
Appliance makers could also end planned obsolescence by charging $5000 for their basic bitch fridges and then selling you each component for $1000 each.
>>
>>108708680
>>108708805
Also in 10 years time you'll want to buy a new macbook on a slimmer form factor, thinner screen bezels and an SoC that mogs your decade old x86 spaceheater. There is literally no point in keeping the same framejeet for a decade and spending $500 whenever you want an upgrade.
>>
>>108708805
>resisting planned obsolescence by charging you DIY parts
You can buy the SSD from anywhere tho.
>>
>>108708829
good thing SSDs don't die in 10 years time and don't need replacing
>>
>>108708571
Damn that's a nice framework

You DO realize there's a downside to ARM using 10-20 watts under load right? Sure x86 will eat through batteries and getting an x86 laptop with less than ~70 Wh is straight up retarded.

BUT x86 still wins in the real world because most people want computers not toys.

This website is Hate HQ though.

>How is framejeet's pro laptop not a scam?
It to a degree is it's the same thing as apple devices back then pre M-series:
>pay a lot for a laptop
>Get shit performance for the price.
>>
>>108708680
lmao, idiot. you actually think that a company that sells overpriced replacement parts doesn’t also make sure people need to buy those parts? lol, lmao even.
>>
>>108708591
>>108708913
>>
>>108708680
>Not a scam
The hardware designs for a large degree are proprietary, that means if frameworks goes bust your laptop has no future. This is kind of a bit contrary to the PC desktop.
>>
i wont even begin thinking about getting one unless they put a nipple in the laptop
how is that even fucking real
>>
>>108708929
>lmao, idiot. you actually think that a company that sells overpriced replacement parts doesn’t also make sure people need to buy those parts? lol, lmao even.
This NTA, a lot of their parts are proprietary, the motherboard, speakers, case, screen and more.
Because ram (at least used to) and storage is actually following standards doesn't make it more open than the average business laptop.
>>
>>108708680
Considering frameworks pricing, does the Laptop of Theseus model come out cheaper in the long run over just getting a new laptop outright later down the line?
>>
>>108708571
I considered one of their desktop boards but was turned off by nonstandard CPU + Memory cooler mounting plates. I emailed them about this and they just told me to make my own adapter as if that was a satisfactory answer.

I guess it works in 99% of cases with a fan anyways, but my use case is a passively cooled case and its definitely possible as I'm already doing it with a normal itx board instead. the 395+ max would have been legit thoughever.

We need standard RAM prices at this point. I propose, Apple DDR5-6000 CL30:
16 GB - $200
24 GB - $400 (+ $200)
32 GB - $800 (+ $400)
48 GB - $1400 (+ $600)
64 GB - $2200 (+ $800)
96 GB - $3200 (+ $1000)
128 GB - $4400 (+ $1200)
192 GB - $5800 (+ $1400)
>>

anon its more like there be ram in wide variety or not

Those RAM prices are everywhere, not just them.
>>
>>108708571
if they ship it to you, and it is as described, it's not a scam
as i understand they have done that in the past
>>
>>108708571
The same way applel isn't a scam? Except, of course, when you overpay for hardware with applel, that's it. You're stuck with it. If it breaks your options are to buy a new one, or take it to an applel store and hope that whatever it is happens to be covered by your applelcare. If it's not, then you're paying a shitload. Vs framework where you can upgrade your RAM, CPU, GPU, you can add whatever kind of ports you want, if a part breaks you can scan the QR code and go straight to a page for replacing or upgrading the part. They're only expensive right now because it's a very small company without the kind of massive vendor contracts for components that would allow them to reduce the price. The more popular they become, the more reasonable the price will be. Though honestly for being able to treat a laptop like it's a desktop in terms of adding/replacing/upgrading parts makes the price a little less painful imo. I switched from applel to Lenovo for chinkpads, but I'm strongly considering framework for my next machine.

It's actually pretty impressive how an iPhone chip is able to run the game like that.

>How is framejeet's pro laptop not a scam?
Because you can source the memory and storage yourself? You don't have to get those from Framework. Just the Chassis and Motherboard ("Mainboard"). Shit, you can even remove the CHARGER if you don't mind not having a plug in USB-C (or have one at your place):
>>
>>108709449
Not really, given it's a PS3 (PPC iToddler era) title.
>>
How is it a scam? You buy a great product for a decent price. Great battery life, repairable, future-proof and 100% Linux compatible

Cope, faggot!

Snake oil. Most if not all laptops just work without needing that sales pitch all you need to avoid is NVIDIA and you are good.
>>
>>108709917
My bad
>future-proof
>>108708945
>>
>>108709765
it's significantly more unoptimized on PC and requires 20x the resources for low settings (which still look worse than PS3)
>>
>laptop company built around being able to repair and replace components as desired
>it's a "scam" because some parts are made by framework and you can't throw a laptop mobo by dell in

At least they let you configure it without memory and SSD so you could gamble that you can find LPCAMM2 modules for cheaper when they're shipping.
Looks like you could save a decent amount of money doing that right now at least.
>>
product delivered
is it a laptop
does laptop work
is there support while in warranty
>>
>>108708571
Framework's privacy policy is a fucking joke considering what they claim to stand for
>>

At least it's not soldered in like it is with AMDs newest scam, or Apple's.
Just buy your own RAM if you think you can source it cheaper. Isn't it pretty nice of them to let you?
