>>108713110Fedora 44 or Ubuntu 26.04 LTS?Ubuntu or KDE?Of course the answer is Windows, but it's a tough choice for linux-enjoyers right now. I also take it that Canonical doesn't provide Pro support to flavors like Kubuntu?
>>108713127*GNOME or KDE
>>108713110Nvidia just got Cuda Toolkit to finally work on Fedora 43 (because it has a new glibc runtime environment etc) and now there is yet another version.I don't understand this retardation. I installed Fedora 43 back in November or December 2025.
>>108713135Each release is supported for 13 months, new releases drop every 6 months.
>>108713127>>108713130KDE if you want to customize shit, Gnome if you want something basic that is a pain in the ass to customize.
>>108713127If you have to ask: Ubuntu. If you want KDE: Fedora.
>>108713127one needs you to tinker and manually add repos to install codecs just to play videos normallythe other just works out of the box, has the biggest repository out of any distro and is called Ubuntu
>>108713236>one needs you to tinker and manually add repos to install codecs just to play videos normallyOr just install some flatpaks.
>>108713127>Ubuntu for normies >Fedora for professionalsChoose your level. Both are excellent.
>>108713193this, ubuntu is normie ready and fedora is shipping the best kde experience right now.
>>108713236If you think putting in a couple official simple dnf install commands once on a new install is hacky or tinkering then you definitely are the target audience for Ubuntu
>>108713127>but it's a tough choice for linux-enjoyers right nowIt really isn’t.KDE > Gnome under all circumstances.Fedora if your computer is relatively modern, Ubuntu or Mint if it’s an old clunker.
>>10871312744 > 26
>>108713127>Fedora 44 or Ubuntu 26.04 LTS?My Fedora box will stay on Fedora. My Xubuntu box will stay on Xubuntu. My Ubuntu Server box will stay on Ubuntu Server, and so on and so forth. I won't be upgrading immediately either, and will be waiting at least 4 months before even considering any release upgrades, as all of the Linux machines I manage are workstations or production servers.>it's a tough choiceIt's not. 99.9% of people will stay with the distro(s) they're already using.>Canonical doesn't provide Pro support to flavorsOf course they do. Hell, you can even enable the pro feature stack on derivatives like Mint and elementaryOS.>the answer is WindowsFor the room temp IQ gamenigger and plebian office drone crowds, it sure is. Right on.
>>108713940>Of course they do.They support the Ubuntu Universe packages, but they're not going to fix KDE for you when if/when it Krashes.
>>108714583>can't differentiate between an X and a Kgrim
>>108713110>SpydoraLol enjoy being compromised
>>108714594>Provides zero evidence, as usual
>>108713110Yay!
I'll never get the midwit elitism some of you take to Ubuntu. Both distros are compelling options for people interested in linux, and with LTS versions, that's always going to pull in a lot of sysadmins, not just 'newbs'.
>>108713110Upgrading rn!!!!!!!!!
Fedora is for normal cattle NPCs. Really rlmem use void
>>108714738this, xbps is the best and leah won.

>>108714738>Fedora is for people who want to use their PC for human things like work and gaming. Real men use meme distros with barely functioning DEs
Fedora the 6 months release treadmill for RHEL beta testersFedora the distribution that won't let you use your computer as you want to use itIf you have to pick one between Fedora or Ubuntu, pick Ubuntu. But you should really use Debian.
>>108714778
>>108713110>xhe transitioned to fedora 44KWAB
>Fedora KDE on desktop>Proxmox/Debian on homelab servers>Debian/Alpine for VMs/CTs>Ubuntu on VPSBeen working out for me just fine. One day I might try Arch on desktop.
>>108713127>Fedora 44 or Ubuntu 26.04 LTS?Fedora>GNOME or KDE?KDE>Of course the answer is Windows, but it's a tough choice for linux-enjoyers right now. Based Copilot 365 pilled or something like that>I also take it that Canonical doesn't provide Pro support to flavors like Kubuntu?Should work
>>108713135Sucks to be a propriecuck I guess.
>>108713236Ubuntu requires significantly more post install cleanup than Fedora. Delusional. You also left out how you have to register your Ubuntu install to get basic security updates, disingenuous fucktard.
>>108713871Reminder 44 was held back because of KDE shittiness. GNOME is superior.
Super-smooth upgrade. No problems.
>>108715010I don't want my desktop to look like an Android device. Thanks
>>108715014Install was pretty smoothwsl --install FedoraLinux-44
I was going to wait a couple days just in case. Any problem with 44 Workstation so far?
Finally decided to get Fedora on my laptop (only had it previously on PC). I couldn't stand the bloat from KDE, so I settled for i3 again.
>GNOME is the only one worthy of the WORKstation titleLmao. KDE confirmed for toy desktop.
Semiannual reminder to deflatten all the core gnome icons with a classic Tango styled icon theme. User friendly rpm available!https://github.com/m500s/tangwaita-icon-theme
>>108715267It's an utter bugfest. I don't know why so many people drag their nuts through broken glass to use it.
>>108715212A lot of gnome extensions don't work right now. That's about it.
>>108715369>>108715366>>108715361>>108715267i have to do none of this on my Kool Desktop Environment (KDE) installation, it just works and is fun to use
>>108713179>Gnome if you want something basic and get your work done.here, fixed it for you
>>108713127If you value security, fedora is the only answer. Ubuntu isn't hardened in any way and many security patches are not backported to LTS releases and kernels.
>>108713127Fedora KDE. Ubuntu has been only going downhill, absolutely no reason to use it. For god's sake, they still use PPA's!
>>108715416>Ubuntu isn't hardened in any waylolhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/AppArmor>>108715420>For god's sake, they still use PPA's!lmaohttps://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/
>>108715440That's whataboutism. There's no equivalent of Fedora Atomic in Ubuntu land. Third party system repos are obsolete.
>>108715459They shilled for Fedora KDE, not Kinoite.>Third party system repos are obsoleteCOPR seems to be going strong
>>108715416>many security patches are not backported to LTS releases andare you retarded?
>kernel version 6.19hahahaha, no, thanks
>>108715560seems like an improvement, hope that in a future release we can get to 0 bogus ops/s
>>108715459>There's no equivalent of Fedora Atomic in Ubuntu land. There will be by 2028.
The docs say the preferred update method for KDE is via Discover but it wasn't offering me the upgrade even after a day so I just used command line. Went without any issues.Nvidia driver 595 combined with ntsync and descriptor_heap branch of vkd3d has me probably at less than 10% performance loss compared to Windows with DX12 games so Nshittia is finally getting usable.
>>108715862do you say this in comparison to 43 or in general? because I'm on fedora 43 and if there's significant performance improvements on nvidia I might not wait to update.
>>108715906It's hard to say how much the driver update matters compared to other stuff like using the vkd3d descriptor heap branch (via Proton-CachyOS) on and ntsync. You can sudo modprobe ntsync on F43 too btw. They just made it load by default on 44. All in all it's not a gigantic increase but I am now maintaining a minimum of 60 fps in a game I tested where I was dropping to 55 before.
sudo modprobe ntsync
>>108714759Nice pape
YOU MUST UPDOOOOT
>>108715999interesting for the driver alone. I currently have a problem where the monitor won't turn back on after it turns off unless I change the port the cable is connected to on the gpu. this used to also happen on windows and stopped happening at some point so I'm pretty sure it's njudea's fault
>>108715539They usually only backport patches for critical vulnerabilities. But in LTS kernels even those are sometimes skipped. For many more obscure packages they don't even bother backporting anything. Many times there aren't even CVEs assigned to vulnerabilities in them. That doesn't mean they aren't there and aren't patched in an up to date package.
>>108715414usecase for getting work done?
>>108715032here, clownuse this (You) to earn another penny
>>108715369Thanks for the answer. Apparently mine are all compatible.
>>108715217based
>>108713110welp better be done with the update todaySomething pulled all texlive and rocm packages. No idea why.
