>64 gig ram is too expensive
>32 gig is more then enough according to some people, for now.
But what about 48GIG of ram? Some brands sell ram sticks in 24 gig each. However I heard somewhere that ram really wants to stay in 2 squaring tabel (2,4,8,16,32,64 etc) otherwise it's might not function properly. Is there truth to that or is it just bullshit?
>>
>>108714845
there are 1.5 and 3 GB chips, its just that anon
>>
>>108714911
Then how come ram that follows the 3 square isn't more common place
>>
>>108714845
I bought 96gb of ram because it was cheaper than 64gb.
>>
>>108714845

two 32MB mem cost about same as two 8GB good times
>>
>>108714845
The cost isn't linear so it's generally better to use square values.
Even so a 12 GB stick will still cost less to produce than a 16 GB stick, so it has a market during times when RAM is expensive.
>>
I paid less for my 2x24GB than 2x16GB kits cost at the time.
>>
>>108714986
>>108715041
And it won't impact performance?
>>
>>108714845
At this point we might as well consider running XEONs with fucking ECC memory that was cheap as shit last I looked.
>>
>>108715254
I heard Jayz2Cents claim otherwise, but he didn't rly explain further, much less provide concrete numbers.

My work laptop only has 32Gb and it is barely enough.

My personal laptop has 64 and it never seems to use 16GB

The difference is that my work laptop is running about a dozen productivity spyware app, and endpoint security bloat and my personal laptop just has normal windows 11 spyware.

My m2 mac mini only has 16GB and always seems to have 8GB free

Ram needs really depends on a per use case basis

what are your RAM's pronouns?

i have an MSI Aegis with 32 GB. it was slow as fuck on windows but linux mint made it significantly faster. windows will make any computer seem slow.

16 is still enough.

Back in the day the boomers were smart enough to come up with all sorts of crazy solutions to expensive ram problems. GRiD used magnetic bubble RAM. Why can’t GenX and Millennials come up with any solutions and are just waiting on the chicoms to solve the problems for them?

My laptop had 16 GB of ram in one slot. I put 64 in the second. I have 80 GB of ram

>>
>>108714845
I had 64gb of ram back in 2014. These days there's absolutely zero reason to have less than 128GB.
>>
>>108714845
24GB (and 48GB) sticks are fairly new, feels like only a few years ago I was seeing BIOS updates coming out regarding support (or improved support) for RAM sticks in those capacities. Still there shouldn't be any performance difference or other issues with them, at least as long as your mobo / BIOS doesn't throw a fit or something. Other than that there's nothing special about them.
>>
>>108716446
They used that in terminator 2

They used that in Aliens. They used it on the space shuttle. The GRiD Compass was 100% made in the USA, every single component. And it was a symbol of our technological superiority.

I have 32gb ram in my rig and ive not breached 16 more than a few times.
Those times were when i was working on a pretty massive assembly in fusion 360. And at that point my graphics card was struggling.
Idk i could see a use case but thats a lit of ram. Depends what you plan to do i guess.
>>
>>108714845
how about 128 GB of DDR3
>>
>>108717119
no
>>
>>108716641
I do all 3 and I've never hit more than 12GB on my 32GB system.

>However I heard somewhere that ram really wants to stay in 2 squaring tabel (2,4,8,16,32,64 etc)

Sounds like bullshit, having 48gb still means you've got 32gb.
>>
>>108717264
:(
>>
>>108717119
You can't even buy DDR3 sticks anymore
>>
>>108714845
>However I heard somewhere that ram really wants to stay in 2 squaring... otherwise it's might not function properly.
That's bullshit.
Instead, a valid concern is that your DIMMs all have the same capacity (whether multi-channel or 2 DIMMs on a single channel). Even if they don't have the same capacity your RAM will still function correctly, but occasionally may perform slower.

>>108714948
48 isn't a square of 3.

>>>32 gig is more then enough according to some people, for now
I thought it was too until I had to use photoshop
>>
>>108717347
you can buy new stick of ddr3, anon, i just did a month ago, the chips are still being manufactured
even older ddr1 memory keeps being manufactured, old chips are used in embedded devices. probably your isp router has ddr2 or so
>>
>>108715992
What do you that 32GB isn't enough?
>>
>>108718880

Post is anything to go by, photoshop.
