Yet no chinkshit conpany offers an equivalent. Just more XBO pad clones.

I believe that there is similar tech to the hot-swappable switches in keyboards that could be easily utilized in a product this expensive
>>
I've never soldered before. How would one go about swapping out thumb sticks? I was at least curious about making an old Xbox controller TMR.

Is there a standard format for hot swappable joysticks like there is for mechanical keyboards? If not you're asking Valve to create one and potentially sacrifice structural integrity of their devices with some dinky ass pull out connector that they need to develop in-house over... just soldering it in a way it can be desoldered by anyone with an Amazon soldering iron

For what reason, they're tmr. Going to take 1000s of hours of use to wear down the mechanical plastics to the point they need replacing.
And the contact pads are like that for easy modding to clicky switches whenever extremerate release a kit.

desoldering pumps make a mess that contaminates ur house and the local water supply with fine lead particles permanently
this shit is a job for the factory not the home
>>
>>108716500
actually it's $99

...or the repair shop? If you're too stupid to account for all of this when doing it at home

if I had to choose something worth 100$ I would use that as an example, it would be acceptable if the product was innovative in some ways instead of copy paste tech from early 2000s
>muh but the thumb touchpads
not even that useful hence you can use joysticks anyway

>>108719120
correct me if I am wrong but you can achieve the same results with sensor on the pcb, no? Thanks to their current approach they can make it easier to replace I guess, however it's also more prone to damage, right?
>tinker modding kit
yes, tinkering may be the thing, if it will sell as super customizable/repairable thinkpad of controller then it may be worth the money
>>
>>108719166
>correct me if I am wrong but you can achieve the same results with sensor on the pcb
if they made the pcb that big it would double the weight of the controller
>>
>>108719130
Just don't empty your solder pump into the sink.

the only differences between using a membrane vs pcb for contact pads are:
1. depending on how the membrane is mounted to the backing plate, they can feel less solid underneath the switch actuation feel, but in the steam controller the membranes mounted well like the playstation controllers which i've never seen anyone complain about before
2. membranes can corrode in humid environments IIRC, so do pcbs but membranes are really difficult to repair without replacing the whole thing
3. weight

Casuals...

I am trying to figure it out too. The design looks perfectly fine to me. I guess people were expecting some kind of amazing innovation for $100 and not the same parts you would find in chink knockoff.

thumbsticks that screw into a socket. light bulbs can do it, why can't thumbsticks?

Build an interface like a cpu, clip onto a socket, easily replaceable if any issues occur

Soldering is easy
Desoldering, however....
>>
The only controller with hotswappable switches I've seen is the dualsense edge
That controller has standard sticks that drift and you're paying 200 dollars + the price of the replacement sticks
Also contact pads can be good, they can be certainly better than fucking dome switches (like the xbox one gamepad, fucking yuck)
>>
>>108716500
is this steam controller?
TMR sticks. Other parts will fail long before the sticks fault
Looking at you, membrane face buttons
