RED PILL ME, WHICH IS KING? I NAMED IT BUMP AS THEY ARE BOTH TACTILE AS THE FINGER FEELS THE KEY BEING PRESSED FOR BOTH.
i'd bump yur mom
>>108717384linear feels like typing on a cloud, comftactile feels like walking with a lint ball in your sock, not comf
buy both from aliexpress and try them ??? its like 3 dollars a bag of 30
>>108717453Makes sense. There is the marketing meme of bumps are for typists and linear for gamers. Think this has done linears a disservice.
>>108717473Yeah. I have tried red and browns and thought mechanicals weren't for me as neither were doing it. Am thinking heavy linears might fit the bill and have those on the way. Blacks
>>108717384Because you did not preface your question with "niggle me this:", I can tell you are not a serious person nor worthy of a serious answer
>>108717384linear: stealth but can accidentally misclicktacticle: no stealth but no accidental missile slingsit's situational, the choice comes at the innards design
>>108717384THIS IS A MATTER OF OPINION WE DON'T HAVE TO AGREE JUST TRY THEM YOURSELF AND MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND.BUT SINCE YOU ASKED ABOUT THE KING THAT IS OBVIOUSLY TOPRE EVERYONE KNOWS THAT.
>>108717619THEY MAY BE SOFT CAUSE OF RUBBERDOMES BUT THE LACK OF SWITCHES BEING AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE FOR CUSTOM BOARDS ELIMINATES THEM FROM THE RUNNING.
>>108717384how the fuck do you get your color profile so fucked up that red comes out brown and brown turns green?
>>108717776It's called bias eliminator
>>108717384linear is 4chanbump is reddit
>>108717384>WHICH IS KINGBump makes the metal bend back and forth more, so it wears out faster. The way the bump works also sucks because there's some wiggle room before the contacts close after the bump occurs.
>>108717805Holy shit dude how did you manage to make this so clear.>>108717851Good points. One thing with bump that is weird is the change in force. If you like a full key press you are going from low force -> high on bump top -> low after bump -> high on bottom out. Fucking rollercoaster.
>>108717384low profile and linear is best. silver.
>>108717384Just use browns, bro.
>>108718168>just use whatever shit comes with the keyboardnobody pays for browns, right?
>>108718236They're the default for a reason.
Linear is probably the best for you if you have weak fingers but if you like to exert some force or if you play an instrument, you will prefer tacticle. Some linear switches are so weak that you can accidentally press keys when you hover your hand over them...Cherry Clear switches are pretty fun but they are not that great for gaming.
>>108718328It isn't that cut and dry as heavy linears exist.
>>108717384Buckling spring is king.
gateron silent blacks
>>108718723I got silent blacks coming. mx2a
>>108717384Tactile better for typing and general pc use. Linear better for games
>>108718809Marketing copyslop. Try harder.
>>108718344Why do you take everything literally? Surely you know that I am not writing a fucking essay about switches but posting some stuff from the top of my head, as generalization. What is the most common linear switch on this planet? It's either Cherry Red or some shit used by Logitech. These are both as soft as it gets.People buy linear switches because they are very soft.
>>108717384topre
tactiles lets me know exactly when I've actuated and reset the keylinear doesn'tclicky is fucking retarded though
>>108719101>tactiles lets me know exactly when I've actuated and reset the keyNot really. The actuation happens before or after the bump on almost all tactile switches.
>>108717384>springsWhy not magnetic switches with an optocouple? It should last foerever.
>>108719411wooting sells a kbd with optical. it's nice, but i don't think they make optical switches that use the normal keyswitch shape/pin layout
>>108719371This. Also think people are meming themselves that pressing a linear doesn't have any tactility. My fingers feel the keys being pressed.>>108719411When you design your own PCBs, mag sensors are another complication. Mech switches are self contained complete units.
>>108717384Cherry reds feel like I'm typing on some high quality Sanwa arcade buttons, it's based
Rubber dome. Good resistance until actuation, not annoyingly loud.
>>108717384>WHICH IS KINGBuckling spring is king, but beam spring is GOD-EMPEROR.
For me it's blues. I don't trust a keyboard I can't hear.
magnetic linears
>>108719371Yes really.
I like feedback.
>>108720887>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEThis shit sucks.
>>108717453I don't wear socks. I've been barefoot for 36 years.
>>108717384Linear is much easier on your fingers for extnded typing. Bumps basically bend a tiny metal sheet to get the feel.
>>108717384dogshit>>108718696this desu>actually got one>its overrated
>>108720933and the inconsistent force you need to apply leads to you slamming your fingers down into the keyboard harder. over time that's harder on your fingers.
>>108718839Truth is the best marketing. I own both. When typing you will have your hands in a ton of different positions, constantly relocating, so having the bump lets you coordinate between presses better as you can literally feel give of the actuation, and the push of a reset. Using your hands to confirm a letter was registered is faster than waiting for your eyes.In most games meanwhile your hand will be mostly static, and the length of presses will matter a lot more (plus theygenerally have lower latency than other software), leading you to measure the result with eyes. If you do abutton combo/sequence that when done rigghtis too fast for the game to show chances are you will be doing it over and over again and build muscule memory. Not to mention the nice stuff HE linears can do
>>108718809both are trash for typing flat keyboards like magic keyboard or surface keyboard are best for typing
>>108717384Used both and I don't see a meaningful difference. If you care about keyboard switches, just be a geek and buy the ones that feel and sound the best. Its subjective.Buy the key sampler kits before you commit to one. Its a cash grab but you might as well get deeper into the hobby since you care this much about a small detail already.
>>108722149Seriously? This is no better than a laptop keyboard no? I hate typing on those. They are fatiguing after more than an hour of use.
>>108718809If you care about gaming, don't buy a gaming keyboard lol.I own a hall effect keyboard and it doesn't help me at all.Just get a big mouse pad, and a good mouse. For the keyboard, just use anything that doesn't use up a lot of desk space. If you got the money, get an azeron.
>>108717384linears feel like pressing your fingers into a huge piece of shit where the resistance against your fingers is consistent the whole way
>>108717384i tried tactiles, fucking hated it and went back to the loud cheap linears that came with my keyboard, linear is the way
>>108717384they look the same
>>108723012vs tactiles which feel like old shit with a crust you have to break through to get to the soft part.
>>108717384Mechanical keyboards are dead, Hall Effect keyboards are the future.
>>108725092Why?
>>108719371>The actuation happens before or after the bump on almost all tactile switches.I haven't seen or experienced that. And neither have you anon. The entire point of tactile is that you need to get past the grams in order for it to travel past the bump, without it you just have random phantom inputs if the sensor takes input high enough.
>>108717384Anything like browns but better? Browns feel mushy to me but I hate reds and blues
>>108725107Gamers prefer Hall Effect keyboards en masse, and gamers essentially control the entire market of PC parts and accessories. Given that, it's inevitable that membrane keyboards will keep being the "mainstream office" keyboard type, while enthusiast home PCs (most often built for gaming) will have magnetic Hall Effect keyboards. Mechanical keyboards will still exist, but they will no longer be popular.
>>108717384The choice of real programmers.
>>108725398cool it with the racism
>>108717384I have blue, red, black, brown.blue is so bad.red feels mushy and I can't tell if I've acuated key or notblack is better than red but still mushybrown is what I use right now I like how it feels and I can tell exactly if I've acuated the key
>>108725512You will touch real joy when you get your hands on kailh box navy blues.
>>108717384I haven't used anything other than linear switches in like 10 yearsit's real comfortable
