What made you switch away from Linux?
>>
>>108717463
i needed a home server and both windows and mac were annoying to set up things with
>>
>>108717463
I switched from linux to ubuntu because linux wasn't as user friendly and ubuntu is a little bit faster
>>
ads, now go buy one i think the last straw was reverting my privacy settings after i spent a week clicking through a million settings menus
>>
>>108717463
My package manager raped me in China.
>>
>>108717475
XBPS would've never done that by the way
>>
>>108717463
>This works on Linux
>Look inside
>Only works on, or doesn't work on (usually yours), a specific branch of distros
I've never seen a program that only works on specific editions of any given Windows version
>>
>>108717463
i spent more time fixing annoying quirks and broken stuff than being productive with it. most of the stuff I used on windows that didn't exist on linux had an equivalent that was designed by troons who never used their own programs. that was long ago but i dont give a shit what's it's like now. the worst part was the cultist whose welcoming persona flipped 180 degree when you had to audacity to complain about something basic being broken.
>>
I was uing linux mint for a long time and it was just annoying but i switched to elementaryos and now im happy, fuck linux never going back there
>>
I've used Gentoo for years with zero issues.
>>

>What made you switch away from Linux?
Asking the question of "Why not just use Windows and VSCode and be actually productive, instead of wasting time?"

Other way around, idiot.

Doesn't really happen for consumer shit but you have no idea the lengths some companies go to just to keep ancient W3 or W95 era machines running because they control some multi million dollar industrial plant or medical device and the manufacturer went bankrupt and defunct in the 80s.
In my experience actual legacy mainframes are more common but having worked in the chemical industry before I can tell you there are god knows how many ancient pieces of shit stuck on some (<SP3) XP version of windows because some proprietary piece of shit controller relies on it and the downtime and replacement costs would in no way justify replacing the still working system.

I spent three whole days trying to figure out why Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora, and Zorin can't see my three HDDs, which worked flawlessly with Windows. I tried everything; nothing worked. I installed W10 again, and there they were. Now I can work again.
>>
>>108717463
using it for a few days
>>
>>108717973
the kikery involved from the vendors is amazing, when i was a tech monkey a customer had a £1million metal folding machine with an XP embedded PC that controlled it, the (thankfully SATA) HDD was dying and it kept locking up and the vendor wanted something like two grand to fix it, i took the drive out, cloned it onto some random drive we had in the office and had it up and running in an hour. You can spend seven figures on a laser cutter from Trumpf and they will bundle you a PC with XP on it then expect you to put it on your network. insanity.

nothing, now buy an ad for your employer, microsoft employee

It's no wonder troons are so attracted to it
>>
>>108717463
I stopped using loonix because it's a sign of being a hacker and I didn't want to be associated with hackers so now I use windows.
>>
>>108717463
Switched from ubuntu to xubuntu 10 years ago and couldn't be happier. I only use windows if I'm paid to do so which is what happens at work. I can't imagine anybody using windows voluntarily. Windows XP was awesome, anything after that is unusable garbage. Xubuntu reminds me of XP, it just works and lets me work.
>>
I can't run my hentais.

I've experienced this over and over and its made me swear off open source forever. Its amazing to me that people who have nothing at all can be so snooty.
>>
>>108717463
Using it for a few weeks did the trick.
On desktop, that is. It's excellent on servers.

Second this. Used it for a couple of years, but I overextended myself with it. It's good and I would have kept using it if I didn't need to work for some one else and use a gazillion various things Linux stack requires and if I didn't need zoom, Google meet, chrome for stupid calls.
>>
>>108717463
I realized that Linux was an inferior form of Unix and the only way forward was FreeBSD and OpenBSD.
>>
>>108718154
If it wasn't for ren'py I would be using windows.
>>
>>108717463
I started edating a girl who wanted to play Minecraft and I got filtered by the Minecraft launcher I downloaded, so I switched back to Windows. Now that she's my wife I no longer need Minecraft and thus am back on Linux.
>>
>>108717965
Because most Linux users would have zero reason to switch back considering they likely left over Windows/MacOS issues that have only gotten worse in the past few years
>>
>>108717487
Only because XBPS doesn't have a package for its dick
>>
>>108717463
Seeing just how fucking awful Windows 11 is.

>>108717463
Nothing, because unlike 20 years ago Linux "just werks" now.
>>
>>108718750
20 years ago, linux fans just like you were saying the exact same thing.
>>
>>108717463
I haven't.
