I use debian for all of my virtual machines. one time I forgot I was setting it up and then it switched to the screen narrated version and the voice spooked me.

I ended up here somewhat by chance, and after using KDE with Debian/Fedora, testing GNOME and MATE, I can safely say that this combo is one of the most comfy configurations you can use.

I've had issues across Linux distros with sleep and hibernate. I'm not surprised that GNOME for example only has hibernate, restart, and power off in the power menu.

Nah, fuck it. I've set it up for a home server and already regret it. Everything that's in repos is so fucking old. Fucking initramfs-tools by default: no Luks+tpm2 for you unless you dare to migrate it to dracut. Exim4 instead of postfix by default.
I should've go for Fedora/Redhat based distros or take Arch Bullet

still the most used Linux distro for servers and professional applications.
go away red hat shill, keep beta testing for free.
>>
>>108724472
It’s used for servers which has been the most common reason to use Linux, most of the people making the jump to Linux are using Arch or Fedora since they actually need shit updated

updates that work are a good thing.
updates that krash your system are not.
gaming on Debian is fine, as always, is just user error and skill issue.

I've been on debian+xfce for somewhere around 20y. There might be something out there by now that's better but I can't be bothered to try.
>>
>>108724490
most people making the jump to linux are using whatever distro their favorite techtubes or chatgpt tells them. That's fine for a begineer, but any experienced Linux user can tell you that the distro doesn't matter, Linux is Linux.
>>

KDE is a jeet DE. Debian will become jeeted too.

Kekaroo
Gaming on Linux is better than on Windows unless you play slop like CoD, but you need to use an actually good distro like Arch or Fedora and not some outdated piece of shit like Debian.

And yet people are reporting than other distros perform better than SteamOS. CachyOS, Bazzite and even PikaOS (debian-based). Sucking Gabe Newell's cock and drinking Valve semen doesn't make you cool, anon. Same as shilling for Arch or Fedora. Linux is Linux and if you shill for some distro that only reveals you as a poser who will probably go back to windows when all of this Linux flavor of the month shit is over.

Literally who?
CachyOS for newbies and Arch for the more tech literate are the future of Linux. It's incredibly obvious with all the momentum they've been getting, and it's growing exponentially as people make the jump from jeetdows.

>>
>>108724966
You know what I find amusing about posers like you? They move away from Windows because they're fed up by constant jeeted updates, and then they start using (and recommending) Arch+KDE like it's some kind of secret hacker club. Or worse, they start using shit like universal blue distros where a literally who, as you said, pushes daily automatic atomic updates on each reboot and they scream like they discovered some sort of "out of the matrix" shit.
And then... an updates comes out that fucks their shit up and go to reddit yelling how much Linux sucks and that they're back to windows, just like their favorites techtubers did.
>>
>>108725266
>a bunch of babble about hallucinations he had

People use Arch+KDE because it looks nice and just werks. No, Debian and its various spinoffs do not just werk, because shit is too outdated for it to werk without lots of tinkering.

>Debian, indeed, just works.
For server hosting. That probably won't even be true for much longer since Debian is now ran by a jeet.
>>
>>108717952
until Debian sorts its pajeeta problem out, I'm not considering part of the big distros.
>>
>>108725519
>until Debian sorts its pajeeta problem out
It will never happen. Once a single jeet gains control, the jeet takeover happens soon after since they are possibly even more nepotistic than Jews. Debian is done as a serious distro.

Stupid question outside of the stupid questions general
Is it true I can simply uncheck a box at install and not install a DE so that I can just use the terminal for everything?
If I did would it really make things lighter and snappier?

if you uncheck the standard system utils & the DE. you will log in a CLI 100%.

>Stop using jeetware?
Debian is certified jeetware, anon.
>>
>>108725694
Yes with the net install iso you can do that. I wouldn't uncheck "standard system utilities" though unless you know what you're doing, keeping that checked will still spawn you into cli. It's just very rudimentary under the hood tools.

I would still install a simple window manager afterwards like i3 if it's not a server even if it's just there for whatever terminal emulator you might use. Much comfier that way and you can remove the bar entirely if you just want a thing that holds and spawns your terminal window(s).
