I've contributed and forked crossfire RPG, nexuiz/xonotic, and earlier made my own opensource stand-alone console games (a slot machine game, GPCSlots, GPCSlots2, a text console RPG (RPG1, (in perl)).

So I've done text, 2d, and 3d game work all these years for opensource. (code, pixel art, 2d textures, 3d models, 3d maps, music, soundfx, gamecode, engine code, menu code, etc)
And you just disrespect me and pretend I'm seeing things when wine doesn't work as once it did.

I posted the segfault on linux. How is that not useful? What else can I do.

Is CD-Checking now "DEEEPPREEECIATEDDDD" in Wine? Because only OOOLLLLLDDD 1999 software uses it? Why do you just dismiss this as a bug "Just use newer binaries" (note: I've tried: no the No CD binaries do NOT work either)

The segfault does not suggest anything other than an application that worked in wine 1.x now does not work, and hasn't worked since 2-3 years ago when Debian LTS was the then current stable.

Is it "ok" that the software that wine was originally written to run (and yes I remeber it was mostly for the games of the 1995-1999 era, plus the office suites) does not run anymore?

Why is it "OK" because _MICROSOFT_ has depreciated this form of cd check?
This is the same response I got when I reported the simcity installer errors
"Well MICROSOFT WOW doesn't support 16 bit, so WE WILL NOT"
(this has since changed apparently)
Now it's "MICROSOFT NOLONGER SUPPORTS THE CD CHECKING THAT GAMES FROM 1999 DID"

I've been programming C for over 20 years, Perl for 25, and did everything as opensource. You can look up my contributions: I implemented wolfenstine enemy territory BSP for my fork of the darkplaces Quake engine somewhat recently, I extended the networkable entities from 32k to 4million (useful for forests), and have done megabytes of code for the game code etc.
While I'm not involved in WINE development: I do opensource programming for other aspects of the movement. Always have. And I also do media creation of 2d, 3d and 1d art (1d being music and sound, and text console games).

And I gave my name.

i wish package maintainers of different Linux distributions would realize that wine is not like most software and should be packaged differently.
It's on constant bleeding edge, regressions are very frequent, you have to keep multiple versions of it available at a time.
Most package maintainers only support the latest version so you have to maintain the older ones yourself, at least on gentoo it's not that hard as i can pull historical ebuilds and fix them to the newest eapi. I've kept wine 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0 just to be able to run some games and programs.

not him but you dont need to spend time to configure a linux system i can get arch installed and setup with a de + all the software i use in less time that itd take for the windows installer to finish. windows requires more time to do everything, if you want it to not be a piece of shit and do things without you asking you have to run powershell scripts and edit group policy stuff its literally just a waste of time. and it will all get reverted whenever theres an update so you have to do it all again. the thing that finally made me move from windows years ago was that every night at like 1am itd just wake my pc from sleep doing god knows what. my computer should not be doing that, its mine

i never set that windows set maintenance for 1 am i should have to go disable this my pc shouldn't do stuff like this by itself. also another thing is updates taking forever in windows i needed to use it recently made me remember how awful it is the machine takes like 10 mins to install them then reboots and hang son a spinner for another 10 minutes. why what the fuck are they doing. on linux distros youre package manager just overwrites files and you can reboot isntantly

I know this is a schizo thread, buuut, the bug is apparently caused by a specific form of copy protection used in early copies of the game, and doesn't affect cracked copies or later releases. It's WONTFIX because just use a crack lol.

The original binaries used to work fine. From wine 1.x till around wine 4.x but not including wine 5.x (the "it works" for wine 5.x is the newer definitive edition).

The "won't fix" is due to the following logic:

When you just download a crack ... it cheapens it. And there aren't cracks for everything: even the patches are 404 for even AoE II (had to get them another place, fan page).
