>original price of machine: $700 for 500gb, $900 for 2TB>new price after RAM crisis: $850 for 500gb, $1200 for 2TB>original price of frame: $700>new price of frame: $800
>>108719860fake and gay
>>108719905gabe here, it's real
>>108719860fake and gay.steam frame will be 500 and we will eat like kangz.
>>108719860anywhere south of $1k for the frame and i'll bitei've always been interested in the medium but it's never had a compelling product
>>108719860>>new price of frame: $800Fantastic where can I buy it? I want to wear Xterm on my face without the wire going to a clunky laptop.
>>108719860There's no way the Frame is under $1000.
>>108720134>>108720750the frame is basically a slightly better quest 3, if it's $1000 it's completely DOA, valve also did say it'd be cheaper than the index which was $1000
>>108719860frame is a loss leader for some new VR shit they are gonna launch soon so it will be affordable to build a platform much like the quest originally was subsidized
>>108719860>$850 for 500gbWhy don't they just sell a barebones? I have plenty of DDR5 SODIMM modules and NVME drives lying around.
if it can't do native 4K 60Hz Medium settings MINIMUM then it's DOA
>>108721002This. The only purpose of the Frame is to have a decent alternative to the Quest ecosystem, but its so expensive you might as well save up for PC upgrades or a better VR headset down the line. Its such a let down for them to ignore the enthusiast PCVR market. If we had Pimax tier headsets with Steam software, distribution and QC, that would be your go-to VR device. But no, right now you're stuck dealing with shitty scamware if you want a high grade VR headset for gaming.
>>108719860
>$850 drm machine>2yo laptop apu>500GBlmao, this shit will tank.
>>108719961Well fuck :(
>>108719860frame has a 1tb SKU and a 256gb SKU so nice try
Frame isnt even a standalone VR unlike the Quest 3, if it isnt close to the $500 pricetag its doomed
>>108721972you fool
>>108721002>>108721186It's also using pretty unremarkable and "affordable" hardware, theres android handhelds with the same chip going for $400-500, realistically it shouldn't be more than 600, 700 tops.
>>108719860There was a leak where Valve were considering taking a loss/break even on the steam machine (in the short term) while they wait (hope) the memory situation improves in a year or two.
>>108721972are you just saying retarded shit on purpose?
>>108721002>it'd be cheaper than the index which was $1000have you ever heard about inflation? that $1000 is equivalent of $1500 in today's money
>>108721093the ram is soldered obviously
>>108722070it won't improve unless:a) the bubble pops and world's economy collapses (highly unlikely)b) china starts mass producing ddr5 (highly unlikely)
>>108722084It's not soldered.
>>108719860more precisely for the frame, the 4 SKUs added are799 base879 base, bundle with steam controller999 upgraded1079 upgraded, bundle with steam controller
i need it so bad
At this point in my life I might just get the full blown package: I barely touch my pc anymore, all software I need has a usable FOSS alternative, and I play exclusively on the Deck. My PC's CPU is 13yo this year, whatever APU they crammed in the steam machine will be an upgrade regardless, and it will occupy a fraction of the space. Whatever price it will have will be a good deal anyway, considering how bonkers hardware prices are.
valve are unironically have to take a loss on it, they need an affordable system to sell people games.
>>108721002Quest 3 kinda sucks and left me with buyer's remorse. It's just been one problem after another after the warranty lapsed. I literally just dragged my quest 2 out of the closet the other day after getting sick of dealing with controller issues that magically appeared after a firmware update. And the controller tracking was better on the Quest 2 anyway. I also find myself reminded of how much more comfortable it is to put on. But what I'm getting at is that in terms of build quality and QC there's major room for improvement over the Quest 3, regardless of how much feature parity they have. I really don't see the frame coming in very far below 1000usd
this is literally the cube with double the ram, 2 more cpu cores and 1tb of storage and it's $570the gpu doesn't cost $300 and chinks are certainly making a profit on itif you're going to make up a schizo price at least try to analyse the market
Already have $900 usd in my steam balance, ready to get the frame as soon as it drops. I know you chuds will buy out of stock within 24 hours after launch.
>>108726880Nah vr is gay and when my quest breaks I'm done with it.
>>108719860Your new prices are actually the old prices. New frame will be $900 and steam machine will be $999/$1400.
>>108726858the point of the gabecube is that it's a console OOTB with power on or wake via controller which this isn't
