I've always made fun of how centered things are on W11/macOS but it makes perfect sense once you're 1440p 27" screen or bigger.
It just works way better and is more convenient.

I have an ultrawide 1440p monitor and I just have the main panel (linux) on the left side of the screen

Why is this obsession with bigger screens? Anything above 24 I find it really inconvenient to use.
>muh work needs more screen space
Just buy another 24 screen. Bonus you can put it in another place or rotate it. The perfect size for me is 20-21.

I've always agreed with this but I've come to find 27 really comfy. It's nice to have all the extra visual space when doing small detail work, and to be able to lean back in the chair comfortably

It's inferior design actually.
The corners of the screen are "infinite targets" it makes sense to keep important actions there at all times i.e. the program menu, window controls, start menu and show desktop.
You can't even build muscle memory if things are centred on a bar/dock with a changing amount of icons on it.
It's one of the few things Windows did right, and they got rid of it.

no, it doesn't. it removes hot corner UX. it's literally a demonstration that M$ is full of incompetent shitters.

My problem with 1440p 27'' is that I need scaling, something between 115 and 125%, otherwise I need the monitor to be about 50cm away from me which is not ideal for 27'' (I think it's a bit too big for that distance).
On that note I find it to be shit on macOS.
I have to use BetterDisplay, use 2048×1152 and enable hiDPI to have proper scaling. Which in turn makes elements quite big. I don't get why, considering they sell mac minis and studios (which require external monitors of which 4k and 1440p are much more standard than 5k), these people won't support anything that isn't a fucking 5k display. Look at wangblows. Set to 125%, sharp fonts. Some old ass programs look a little blurry but increasingly there's less of those. KDE got fractional scaling right too. Apple is making me suffer with blurry shit.

>muscle memory
So you agree, cli and hotkeys are the superior UI for an operating system.

That's besides the point, there are rules and best practices for keyboard, mouse and touch navigation.
