holy shit I feel like I'm disassociating pretty bad. not really going through a "stressful" day I think it's just one too many dumb questions where I feel like I'm mentally snapping. like I feel fine and all but I also broke my primary keyboard. I think I wrote a few tickets or something but I don't even remember the details of what was in it. they mostly sound like my post right now incoherant and just kinda blah blah blah. got any good advice /g/?
I don't want to get a new job, I do not want to prove myself again because I do not think I have the energy anymore to do it.They'll have to fire my ass to get rid of me.
Tomorrow offnext friday offnext next thursday and friday offeurobros rejoice
I am so fucking lazy holy shit. I hate having to study for certifications for the rest of my life.
>>108725794>I hate having to study for certifications for the rest of my lifeAre certifications a work requirement or a personal requirement? I've been in IT/CS for over a decade now and don't have a single cert and have never felt like i needed one
>>108725928Thats because you are a jobless furfaggot.
>>108725928What is your yearly income? It cannot be that high if your lacking a MS degree and multiple certifications. infact do you have a degree?
It's funny when you are asked to "own it" when you make a mistake by your manager but the things you accomplished yourself are the team's "accomplishments", robbing you of it.I'll never trust "taking ownership" ever again.
How do you pass culture fit interviews?

>>108725243I wonder if I would grow to hate every job or if it's just all the jobs that have hired me that I would grow to hate

>>108726186>>108726198>>108726262if you are a noob with zero experience and want to get into network engineering. If you already have at least 5 YOE and are employed, certs are useless unless you want one specifically to quit and transition to a new role

>>108726311>certs are just a piece of paper and you dont learn anything from themok lol

>>108726623>>108726926Bro I feel this in my soul. My supervisor pulls way more than me for doing nothing while I'm out here doing his entire job, and there's this woman in my office who makes less than I do but somehow has the authority to boss me around and tell me how to do tasks she couldn't do herself. Everyone treats IT like we're the bottom of the barrel, like we're just there to fix their printers and shut up, fodder for whatever they need. I'm 30, I work my ass off, I'm the one actually keeping things running, and I get treated like I'm disposable while incompetent people keep getting paid more and promoted over me. The micromanagement on top of it all is what really kills me, being watched and corrected by people who don't understand what I do and couldn't do it themselves if their job depended on it. The way I'm coping is by treating this place as a launchpad instead of a prison. I'm using the tuition benefit my employer offers to grind out a bachelor's on their dime, stacking cloud certs on the side, and building projects that'll make my resume actually competitive for the jobs I want. Every day I show up here is one more day they're funding my exit. The plan is to outgrow this place quietly, walk out with a degree and certs they paid for, and never look back.

>>108727394I'm sorry but I won't tolerate some cyclist going 10km/hr in the middle of a road
>>108727376Bikes lanes sound like less of a waste of space than building an entire separate bike path that has its own easement and needs to be paved independently
>>108727407which is why as an excessively slow vehicle they should stay to the outside of the lane and only enter a turning lane if they are absolutely going to turn, as is already the law but will not prevent Tyler in his F150 from rear ending you despite your being on a sidewalk
>>108727422A bike lane IS an entirely separate bike path

>ebike furnigger is at it again*sigh*
>>108726297Use case is pretty shrimple anon. Certs and degrees give you more job opportunities. You get paid decently for 10 years of experience but your not richer or better off with less certifications. For the sake of education learning(not taking the cert) is alot better for most people than whatever you learn on the job or at a college. From my experience alot of the job interviews will be over certification content and jobs like mine that require a CCNA and pays me 150k USD means that the ROE is stupid high even if the company didn't pay for renewal it would still be worth it.

>>108725243I confided a few things with my psychiatrist and it seems possible that I could have mild PTSD from my previous line of work.We only go to the office like 1 or 2 days a week and I'm not even technically an employee, I'm a contractor.Has anyone ever had any luck informing their employer of a medical or psych condition, and successfully gotten a semi permanent pass on having to show up at all? Basically being full remote on a hybrid team? How do you do this? Or does this kind of thing get you flagged as a liability?
>>108728147I would personally never go to a psychiatrist even if I thought I had a problem. Which I don't. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
>>108727982I have five cars, you unwashed shitskin dalit scumbag. How fucking dare you speak to your betters in such a manner.
>>108728155>paranoidNo. I have been in and near dangerous situations and it has impacted my ability to not be hyper vigilant at times, and my ability to control my chill switch in large public places. I'm not "PTSD" in the schizo sense I actually have been in high stress situations for a prolonged period.I'm just wondering if a letter from my psychiatrist backing the statement that it's very possible I have a mild case of PTSD could help me get out of showing up or how companies usually treat that kind of thing.
>>108727159IT sucks, I had a nervous breakdown at 31 because I could no longer stand all the responsibility for zero authority and no reward, it's a shitty thankless job.I took a break and retrained as a developer, but that market is fucked now
>>108728147i bet if theres one things employers love its yet another zoomer or millenial claiming disability and requesting work accommodations in the form of full remoteits "possible" you have anything in the field of psychiatry. its not a legitimate science. you arent the first person in the world to think of taking advantage of that. a lot of people are doing it.
>>108728178Depends on the country, UK/EU has some good protections against constructive dismissal, but you need to document everything and it's a long tribunal process But you're a contractor so they'll probably just not bother renewing your contract unless you bring a lot in and can renegotiate your contract If you're a proper contractor you should be able to dictate your terms, but if it's the employer dictating them then you might be able to claim to be a disguised worker - but that's largely a tax thing so not sure if a tribunal would work
>>108727159>>108729444I kinda sorta don't mind my IT job too much but I feel your pain to some degree. I am still treated with some respect and generally have good relations. Manager is chill but will suddenly get hung up on some retarded metric that most likely his manager is bugging him about. It's more so a lack of communication with the other departments that rely on us and having to clean up their mess. Fuckers never consult us and can't follow basic protocol. I will walk into work with plans only to see they moved/bought a bunch of shit that I now gotta work on pronto before I can do the work I already knew I had that day. Could be worse. Also plan on using it as a stepping stone.

>boomer at my job refuses to retire (he's 82) because he thinks he'll die as soon as he stops workingoml
is it really imposter syndrome if you've pretty much just spent the whole time at the company leaning on ai without actually knowing anything yourself?
>>108730008It's so cringe because I advocated for it before just for fixing code or templating but now my boss is encouraging it for everything including critical thinking and I'm like you stupid fuck
>>108729896It's true no lie had 2 coworkers keel over and die within 3 months of quitting. both of them were 72-75
My company's VP is going full in on sloppa. Had a quarterly meeting where using 'agentic' coding is considered mandatory. Participating in open source feels like a chore now, reviewing AI generated jeetware I could've done myself in a fraction of the time. AI makes my job easier but it lets shitty programmers make shitty programs at a rate that is impossible to clean up in time. People don't even read code anymore they just pass around markdown files written by Claude. I wish I could retire
my job is 99% waitingwaiting for claude to slopwaiting for the compiler to buildwaiting for CI to passwaiting for my retarded coworkers reviewwaiting for integration to completewaiting for death
>>108730008No. Imposter syndrome is when you actually know your shit front and back, but due to low self esteem you think you know less than you really do.

>>108730155lmfao
tgif am i right fellas
I dont't give a shit about this industry anymore and I hate pretty much everyone involved in it.Also AI is a meme.
My new team is totally clueless about Agile or how anything they use works. They treat it like a cargo cult basically. We have "grooming sessions" where nothing useful gets fleshed out and the """"story pointing"""" planning poker is about how "complicated" the story sounds (not days of work like how it's supposed to be). So everything ends up 1/2, 1, or 2 points, even massive tickets. At first this annoyed me because it would obviously make our KPIs look terrible and like nothing is getting done on time. Between the dev time, testing, PRs etc even a "1/2 pointer" takes like a week to finally finish. But then I realized no one is paying any attention to the points at all, anywhere, at any point, there is no burndown or burnup or anything, our PM/PO are out of touch roasties who are only there to sit in the meeting. The kicker is that nearly every single story I work on the requirements/AC are apparently all wrong, I do the work asked and then on the PR the lead is like "no we actually want to do this" and then I do the same work twice. Every time. Between the magical shifting requirements, scope creep, and teammate/AI PR reviews, PRs take weeks, weeks, weeks, even months, they just sit there rotting in our bloated "code review" column it's insane. I've realized I'm just a PR babysitter at this point. All of this made me initially very frustrated but now I've realized I can just coast along do the bare minimum and say fuck it since nothing is being properly tracked or managed.
>>108730413I even got into a heated argument with the lead starting out about some of this, most notably the requirements, since obviously it's a terrible waste of time to have incomplete, or totally wrong requirements and waste dev time on pretty much 90% of stories, and he basically dug in and said it wasn't possible to have that all figured out so whatever lol. This is timewasters inc.
>>108730413Management frameworks are an excuse to not have vision from one leader in the workplace. Jews obviously can't have that or they get an unchecked/unvetted/not a member/not a tribe member, a leader of industry and thus a challenge to the authority of the masons/jews/banks whatever the fuck you want to call them.
>>108730413>>108730421>>108730556Didn't finish reading it.Print pic related, frame it, and put it on your desk.I went through the fighting agile and management bullshit phase too.Now I have to do 5.5 points worth of "effort" every day. Management is a mess and nobody actually checks estimates so my job has been reduced into filling this quoate with the most mundane shit I can find while doing the bare minimum.
>>108729896Give him a pleasant surprise by killing him while he's working

>>108730783Which ever one is the highest pay first. then the one with best career trajectory second, then the worse location last. Sort that shit out easy.
>>108729896Take statins and SGLT2i then you'll never have to worry about sudden, non-accidental deaths.
>>108730879Right that's sorting them, but do I pick 1 or 2? 1 pays 20k more, but 2 has the CEO talking directly to me and is NOT a startup.
>>108730413my company had an experiment with "doing agile" (now abandoned, thankfully) and despite working on a couple different teams and going through several iterations of it I still have no idea what is meant to be accomplished by having story points represent complexity instead of time. for practical purposes everyone just wants time estimates anyway, and as far as I can tell they were only used as a proxy for time estimates
>>108730783how is that even possible today?
>>1087309511SP: simple text change2SP: minimal logic change 3SP: somewhat more complex logic, could take two hours or two days5SP: complex logic, will probably take a week8SP: very complex logic, will take two people at least a week or two13SP: plan 3-4 people for 2 whole weeks and if the story is not parallelizable, break it into smaller pieces21SP: you fucked up, break the story into smaller pieces

>>108730934>management talking directly to you Ugh. Option 1 for sure.
Do you hate Mondays anon?I used to but now that I'm older I dread every single day.
Is pressuring devs to take on extra work quietly, and mysterious pay/promotion/bonus delays due to "admin issues" if you don't go along a real thing? I am in EU and had some shit happen to me that feels like an American movie. Long story short, it was a 2v1 "just a chat" with management in a room in the office. I was considering sending a followup email about what was discussed, but I think it might be late now and there being 2 of them vs me was the entire point. Their stories will line up but mine won't.
>>108731580Some oddly specific things that were personally targeted were said during this 2v1, and they also kept insisting "This isn't about you at all, this is something we would tell the entire team", which I assume is just classic corpo tactic. If they're doing dirty corpo moves on me, I guess the best move is to just make an exit plan? Or let them try and get rid of me themselves?
>>108725274you need to go in nature, sit under a tree and listen, not even memeing

>>108731603>"This isn't about you at all, this is something we would tell the entire team"Anon if that were the case they'd free up their schedule and post an all-hands meeting to get the discussion out of the way for everyone. They absolutely were pressuing people one by one to see if you'd go along with their fuckwit-tier management decisions. Any meeting where management outnumbers the regular grunts is just them avoiding a potential angry mob.Anyway, no idea what your job is like, what the pay is, or how in demand your skills are. It's not uncommon to deal with underhanded shit like this, so I'd just play it safe and say you have family commitments you need to abide by (i.e. wife will fucking throw me out if I miss dinners etc.). It doesn't need to be true but these boomer/millenial types seem let this reasoning slide as opposed to you just going "nah can't be fucked, work my wage and whatnot"
41 years old incel who stinks of BO at 8am and who's spent the past years trying to get me fired, has resigned because he's convinced he will get fired soon. How do I act when I see him leaving? He hates me so much and I'm so fucking happy to never have to smell him ever again.

>>108731848I do enjoy this idea, he is single so mentioning the mom might be better.>>108731863You're obviously right, I'm overthinking this because he's tried really hard to get me fired when I was just a junior discovering work life. I might just go get coffee and say a very nonchalant "bye" if he bumps into me after packing all his trash.
>>108731759Without going into too much detail, I ended up turning the pressure around during the interrogation by just saying that tasks should be assigned through the proper process (Jira, sprint planning etc.), they couldn't really disagree with that. Now a few people at my level who had my back, like the SM, are resentful towards me and the vibe has just gotten a bit more paranoid. First time I ever experienced this and they got me good first thing in the morning. So, my bad.
>>108732122And to be clear, I do a shitton of work for the team. They were ragebaiting me or trying to guilt trip me into taking this by implying I'm not doing enough.
I took a sabbatical from work expecting to never want to program again but I've found that I still like it, I just hate corposlop work environs. What do I need to do to get into a start up? What do they look for? I'm 29 so I assume there will be age discrimination, but it doesn't matter to me.
>>108732171Also I'm only interested in fully remote roles. I'm not moving or commuting again, I'll go get a job at a factory or machine shop nearby before doing that.
i remember a few years ago i wanted to make a nice ui for my little 4chan webm script with python to optimize my shitposting capabilities and how much effort it felt to try and learn about qt and frames and boxes or whatever the fuck. it might've been someone else's entire profession to know how to make uis with qt.and giving up because trying to figure it all out was a waste of timenow i can just get an ai to do itall i gotta do is pay
>>108732208This is how your brain rots. I try to only use ai to fill in the annoying-research gaps but still write everything myself.
>>108732249>still write everything myself.that shit is gonemight as well never have written code before, that's how i'd feel without AI right now
>>108732122You gave a neutral, safe response and your coworkers are mad at you because *checks notes*... you didn't cave like they did? Do you work with a bunch of spineless zoomers and angsty boomers who couldn't stand up for themselves if they tried?Nah fuck it, you handled it well for what it was. There was little you could do in there to avoid taking extra work for no pay (the cuck approach). If the company is dead set on increasing workload but trying to wordfuck around it to avoid OT / staff intake then it's not a place you want to stay long-term anyway. >>108732136If team on the same level as you are being smarmy fuckwits then start showing receipts. Won't actually stop them from acting like highschoolers, but it'll shut them up at least. Surely you keep logs of tickets/pushes/whatever. Finally, I find that looking these people in the eye and telling them that you do your job and take pride in it is enough to get them to back off as long as you're calm and earnest about it. Most people can't handle actual confrontation so won't challenge you face-to-face.
>>108732284Well, I won't lie and say I didn't have a part to play in it either:>SM was the one originally trying to push the work on me on behalf of the big boss.>I refused multiple times>the big boss and little boss (my boss) dragged me into the room. Used my recent promotion, and another somewhat more personal and targeted comment to try guilt trip me into this >little boss is sucking up to big boss the entire time>I push back on this as a process issue (jira, planning etc)>big boss agrees, turns the blame for this around on little boss because of what I said>salary bump delay due to "admin error" happens the week of the interrogation, very coincidentally>I know SM ratted that they pushed me to do this and I refused>I fall for the ragebait and start beef with SM, who was a trusted person/"friend" to me for years>also a small bit of beef with little boss over him sucking up like a cuck during the 2v1>it's now framed as a "professionalism" issue because I fell for the tactics>get "asked" to take PTO ASAP off the record because I "seem stressed">same day, we get a communication from management to the team that all our standups must now be recorded "so that we can get AI summaries of action points" (obviously not the real reason)>nothing about the underhanded tactics or private chats is on the record anywhereHere I am now. My mistake. I acknowledge I let emotions get to me and played it badly.

>>108732406>go work elsewhereTough market and not many offering wfh is the issue. I might have to stick it out for a bit, but I suspect they will not make my life easy upon my return.
>>108732498>I want to see how far I can go in a meritocratic (or at least not politics-first) high "agency" (for lack of a less cringe word) environment.Even if you work hard, you'll still need lots of luck to make good money in a startup. Chances are high you'll be hired, given some fancy title at low pay and be left with nothing after a few years of pulling 70 hour work weeks. Focus on making money, not proving yourself to strangers.>I'm working on some products of my own but all of them have fairly small TAMs and I don't think I have the "sales gene".It's good that you're aware of your own limits so you can work with them.
>>108732505Follow little boss and SM home and wedge framing nails against their tires so they get flats. Use AI to generate a video of the little boss and SM doing something that would get them fired and email it anonymously to corporate
>>108732563I don't need a lot of money, I'm spending 40-50k a year from savings and living pretty comfortably. Obviously I would try to maximise whatever they might pay me but I'm psychologically incapable of working a fake job no matter how good it pays. My last job was a third being a tard wrangler for engineers with autism, a third kissing management ass, and a third sisyphus-tier worthless development and it drove me into depression. I will become blue collar before I do that again. And yes part of why I took a break from work was to learn what I'm actually capable of. It's been great.
I just had an almost perfect interview for the MOST miserable job you could possibly imagine (seriously the most miserable) (no seriously it's so much worse than you could think of) (please ask me about it)please big yahu if you can hear me give me a software job I beg you someone save me holy fuck
>>108732584You sound as if you're looking for a meaningful job. How about applying to positions for non-profit organisations?>And yes part of why I took a break from work was to learn what I'm actually capable of. It's been great. That's good to hear, sounds like you overcame your depression to some degree and grew as a person.
>>108732601Because I am a nice person, I'll bite. What's the job you applied to? From the description, hell desk?
>>108732608Because I've seen how many of them are run and most seem to work on the principle of "extract wealth from well meaning idiots and spend it on ourselves, throw the scraps at charity". That's even worse than corporate parasitism, to me. If you know of some with fiscally responsible management and a real mission id love to see them. Something like that would be ideal. There's one I donate to but I'm pretty sure they don't hire software developers, I'll check later today.Thank you for the recommendation though.
>>108732621>What's the job you applied to?It's an internal job>be me, underemployed>got a shitty help desk + paperwork job at a pharmaceutical manufacturing company>a few of the local branch execs really like me so they strongly referred me to the corporate guys in charge of this role (even though I don't have a degree)>corporate guys agree to give me a pity interviewa little more background>demographics at this job are 80% boomers (im only of the very few people under 30)>they basically never fire people or do layoffs>all of the key manufacturing systems are from 2002 running windows xp >one of the b2b vendors in charge of a key piece of software raised the yearly licensing costs by like 5x a few years ago>boomers at the top said fuck that and switched EVERYONE on the factory (all like 100 employees) to doing shit on paper>they found a new program thats dirt cheap and old as shit>the job is to set up computers on the factory floor for this new software and teach all of the boomers (60% of which only speak spanish btw) how to use the piece of shit software instead of writing everything on paper>im not even in charge of the role yet nor does anyone know im applying for it and one of the boomers has already been complaining to me about how it makes his job miserable>im going to be coordinating with out of state IT teams for all of the setups and perms>the IT team is ALL jeets>this is the 4th time in 2 years they're recruiting for this role>all 3 of the previous guys left within months (the last guy specifically left after 2 months lol)they also told me they're trying to hire people with "engineering" experience instead of IT or software because they're scared tech people are going to leave themthe ONLY good thing is that im going to be talking directly to corporate and have next to no oversight from local branch managers so maybe I could play video games in my little cuck wagie cubicle!!!!

>>108732601i dont know why anyone would want to get invested into software at this point. you run a high risk of sinking a lot of time into it and having to career switch.

>be tech worker>get tired of work>buy land so I can start a business doing something unrelated, get a passive income and make tech be a hobby again>a year from the sale passes>whole area goes through a zoning renewal>local authority calls for comments and I was clueless about the whole thing>land becomes practically uselessI only found out yesterday, 2 years after buying this piece of shitI also heard last week that my whole team will be fired soonIt's so fucking over for me. I really should be forbidden from managing money.
>>108733801rip anon
>>108733801Were you expected to tell the local authority"please don't rape my shit up"?
>>108733844I could be wrong, but I think they did take complaints as the final step of the review process. Not that I'd expect much from them, considering how extensive the land is and how they don't seem to think there is any value in it, but I did have a bunch of ideas, and now everything is fucked, except for a few options that I considered unprofitable.
>get home tired as shit on friday>too tired to do anything but not tired enough to sleep>try to take a nap>wake up an hour later (still tired as shit)>but now im sweating and hot as fuck and my heartbeat is 200bpm and I have a sharp pain in my back

>>108733888Sorry to hear that anon. I hope you're able to figure something out. I am curious, how does a zoning renewal screw over your plans? I'm not familiar with the land owning game. Is the firing guaranteed or just a rumor.
>>108733888Also nice trips. It shall bring good fortune Alhamdulillah
>>108733910Anon, are you sure you don't have some kind of illness? Have you tried visiting a doctor for a general (physical) health check?
>>108733910I think you might be having a medical emergency xhir. That's a bad combo of symptoms. If your heart rate isn't going down you probably want to call an ambulance.
>>108733917>how does a zoning renewal screw over your plans? I'm not familiar with the land owning game.Zoning = restrictions in what you can build in the land. If you want to do things the legal way, you have to respect zoning. If you want to build some kind of business and might want to sell it in the future, you have to do follow laws and ordinances, including zoning. Now, imagine having bought land that has very versatile zoning that even allow you to build a 4 floors building, or almost literally any kinda business except industrial stuff... And all of that changes overnight to "everything is forbidden except recreational use like parks". You can't build a house or install any kind of business there anymore. Your shit is done for. I mean, how the fuck so you even make money from a park?Say you want to sell it, who would buy something like this? Your land just lost its value. Only some kinda rich hippy might buy this, and even that depends on his subjectivity.>Is the firing guaranteed or just a rumor.A well founded rumor, IMO. Confirmed by multiple people, some of them ex managers and coworkers that were fired themselves.

Is not studying for interviews normal? My coworker said he never did and just raw dogged them.
>>108734805Most technical interviews are just asking about your experience anywayYou only need to have a few stories memorized for themQuizzing and leetcode style questions are rare outside of big tech, and all those jobs are disappearing anyway

how do you fellers deal with a lead the knows less than you?
I am a corpo at a major company, and they are asking me to become a FDE (forward deployed engineer). However, I can't bring myself to not fall asleep halfway through day due to boredom. Coworkers want out and I desperately need something. Not sure what. I feel drugged without even taking drugs right now.
>>10873508Hang urself autistic freak
>>108733801Why didn't you do any research first before randomly buying land?
>>108733801so... you bought a large parcel of land because you thought that maybe one day you would have some idea of how to make money off it, but 2 years on and you had done nothing at all with it. Sounds like you were just hoping for a passive investment, in which case I don't care what happened to you, stop squatting on land.
>>1087318906 months is barely onboarding, you didn't do jack squat and 20% is too much unless you're getting paid minimum wage at the moment.
>>108735382>FDE (forward deployed engineer)What exactly is a FDE?I keep seeing jobs posted for that, I'm guessing instead of being comfy in a remote office with your fellow nerdkin you're sent miles away to an office full of Patrick Batemen business types?
>>108736388I'm a manager so they're forcing me to learn shit I didn't want to. I like travel, it just means I'd have to be on conference calls 24/7 with random people, aint nobody is paying for travel.
>>108735979I did, but yeah, obviously it wasn't good.>>108736255>you bought a large parcel of land because you thought that maybe one day you would have some idea of how to make money off it, but 2 years on and you had done nothing at all with it.You got it wrong. I had an idea for a specific business, though vague, before buying it. I was researching it: options, how to do it, talking to competent people.I still have some options, but they are greatly reduced now.
