I have a Mac Mini from 2014, i7 chip + 16GB RAM. What should I do with it? Should I make it into a server? What OS/software should I install on it?
>>108727513Install Windows 11 with extra copilot.Thank me later!
Shalom. Install FreeBSD, keep it in the family.
short music vid might be like 5160 frames anon
use it to control your home security system
>>108727583Is FreeBSD as good as the shills on /g/ make it sound?
>>108727513You can use it as a regular gaming pc. Just install debian or arch or any other distro you like.
16GB of ram and i7 is pretty decent. I had one as a home server for a bit and it was fine. Literally just nginx and serving my shitty html blog. Ubuntu run fine on it and had wifi and shit working. I got bored with that and ended up throwing videos on it and hooking it up the TV. It's not bad as just a little video device. Fast and no stutter. Tons more power than those shitty apple tv's and chrome casts. The only thing that sucks is you need like a tiny wireless keyboard or something. I guess the last option is retro games and shit. Retro Arch is decent and it has a good wireless controller deal. If you keep OSX Open Emu is pretty great too. I'm sure you can get an older version your mac supports.
>>108727648this is pretty much what i do with mine. use it to run security cam monitors, router and access point wifi control panels and remote desktop to my headless file server. i was shocked that it still gets security updates (not even running the latest version of OSX that was made available for it either). for the longest time i've been considering getting a m4 mini to replace it, but ultimately held off because i honestly wouldn't use it for anything else and this old 2012 mini handles that perfectly fine already. (i already have a 14" m1 pro mbp and 12.9" m2 ipad pro that i use as my main everyday machines)
>>108728189it’s pleasant and calmI use it for ZFSI can’t imagine bothering with an X server or Wayland anything on a FreeBSD machine of mine, though
