Since when printers even do something like this? And why did noone warn me not to buy HP lol

HP have been widely known to be the Jews of the printer business for years now

Your fault for buying their products rather than a laser printer

How to get out of the printer botnet then? Can't really use printer services since you have to send them the actual unencrypted files, and they can see and do whatever they want with the things you send them

> I have been recommending people buy whatever Brother laser printer is on sale for three years now, and no one has ever gotten mad at me about it. My own Brother laser printer, whose model number I no longer remember and do not care about, has been operating flawlessly for nearly 10 years now. We use it to print return labels for things we’ve purchased online in a losing effort to dull the pain of modernity, and my wife is a lawyer, a job that requires printing documents and scowling at them several times a day. We have replaced the toner once in that time, and it has never asked me to sign up for a subscription or fallen off the WiFi.

> This is the third year in a row that I’ve published a story recommending you just stop thinking about printers and buy whatever random Brother laser printer is on sale, and nothing has happened in the miserably user-hostile printer industry to change my recommendation in that time. (There has been some controversy about third-party toner in Brother printers, but it appears it still works fine.)
> But even though the answer is the same, making sure this information is at the top of Google’s search results is a dogfight against a number of ruthless content farms that are flatly better at pumping search engines with garbage to generate affiliate revenue than we are, because our newsroom insists on the archaic concepts of “dignity” and “self-respect.”

Stop lying, Shlomo

Cheapass shitty HP inkjet printer: £60

Total £674

Good quality Brother colour laser printer: £201

HP Deskjet color printer 41 usd
HP original cartidges 35 usd

There's currently a big deal on an hp printer right now at a nearby office supply store. It's a bundle deal and with the paper, the cable, and the 2 year warranty it costs $112 cad. I hate hp with a passion, but is the company so bad that it's not even worth buying? The Printer is an officejet 8125e. It's either this or the brother work smart MFC-J1410DW, and yes it has to be a colour printer.

Inkjets are ewaste. I’ve seen laser printers that have printer half a million pages. A good laser printer will last you for a long time. In the same time frame you’ll have went through multiple inkjet printers
>>
>>108734110
Not sure why he said a laser printer specifically, Brother printers are good in general. I've owned a DCP-T500W since circa 2017, an ecotank model, and it has always worked fine. OEM ink was so reasonably priced that I only switched to third party when the stationery and office supplies shop next block stopped stocking it
>>
>>108734960
Some advice?
>>
>>108734598
They're not a scam. You just gotta have an IQ above 80. I printed with a cheap ass $30 Canon on a single set of cartridges for 5 years by refilling them. Then bought another pair of second hand cartridges and kept going for another 5. You just gotta know how to refill them, or how to set up a continuous system if you're too lazy to refill.
>>
>>108733980
>Since when printers even do something like this?
Probably the last 15 or 20 years now. HP is one of the worst offenders of this shit. Brother makes a tank based printer where you just add ink to a tank and it prints. That's it.
>>
>>108734179
I have a brother and it's shit. Black ink xl is like 120 bucks. Just replaced all drums and it wants new ones after 1 week. It bitches and moans if you use non oem. Refuses to print if you run out of a colour or in my case don't have brand new drums. The software is retarded so it's guessing what your toner levels are at so I have to babysit it during print jobs so I don't comeback to 1k jobs that are smeared or faded. When I put a new toner in I have to test print at least 5 times to make sure nothing got on the roller drum or it will have lines on thousands of sheets of paper. It's so annoying now that it's cheaper to buy a new printer than deal with this shit.

>And why did noone warn me not to buy HP lol
Huge Pain.
I get the printer hate, especially for HP. But almost every printer has IPP, no drivers required, print from your fucking PC, Phone ... everything. Just be on the same WiFi.

HP printers are fine, as long as you don't get the model with an "e" at the end. And if it's not clearly a subscription based printer, they HAVE to allow 3rd party ink.
>now it suddenly started detecting one of the replacement cartridges as non-original/counterfeit
Could be an automatic update, maybe? Are you from the EU? You can go on your printers local host website and disable the toggle "only allow HP certified toners"

I know this is fucked up and I hate it, but printing isn't as bad, as it used to be... why can't there be a fucking Open Source printer?

As for color printing, I think you need to review your needs. Any home color print is so garbage that I outsource it.
>>
>>108733980
I'm loathed to give you a (You) but it here you are. It has been like this for decades mate. It started off in the 2000's when it was a standing joke that the printer cartridges cost more than the printer. HP locked down their printers years ago and force the user to sign up for an expensive ink subscription. The authorities won't do fuck all about it as it's not a monopoly and most users put up with it. I haven't owned a printer for a while now and when I do need to have a document printed I use my office machine. If you need a printer, go for a decent second hand Brother manufactured from the early 2010's to around 2021 as they're rock solid and accept generic 3rd party cartridges or ink refills without machine complaint. The latest models complain about poor ink and print quality when you use third party ink but they'll still print whilst HP machines will just lock up and tell you to go fuck.

>>108736169
You are retarded. I'm just saying I can't send an encrypt a document to the printing service because they wouldn't be able to print it like that. Therefore, I would have to send an unencrypted file, and they could do with that file as it were theirs. In any case you CAN encrypt paper documents, retard. Encryption doesn't always have to be digital
