I was curious what "Prompt Engineering" entailed and why so many people go out of their way to learn it so I checked out a course on the topic. It's literally just how to talk to a chatbot. There's no gotcha, no hidden technique, no prompt injection, it's just "here's how you ask a chatbot how to answer in the way you want to" like giving it a context for what you're prompting or asking for a list instead of a paragraph. Is this really where we're at as a society? We need a guide on how to talk to a chatbot? People are getting PAID for this shit?
It's only going to get way worse. You haven't seen anything yet.
>start IT course>"AI curriculum added">it's just this shitI'm tired, boss
>>108738986but you get a certificate from an accredited institution that vouches for your prompting abilities, that's the whole point of academia
Outside of having a look at the Network stack, Google Certified IT technician was just very very basic computer stuff. So its that, but more broadly. There is a small art to it, but so is there a art to piping in cli.
>>108738986"I was curious what "Linear Algebra" entailed and why so many people go out of their way to learn it so I checked out a course on the topic. It's literally just how to manipulate grids of numbers. There's no gotcha, no hidden technique, it's just "here's how you multiply matrices" or "here's how to solve a system of equations" like doing operations on rows and columns. Is this really where we're at as a society? We need a guide on how to shuffle around numbers in arrays? People are getting PAID for this shit?"
I was curious what "Business Management" entailed and why so many people go out of their way to get an MBA so I checked out a course on the topic. It's literally just common sense. There's no gotcha, no hidden technique, it's just "here's how you organize people" or "here's how to make more money than you spend" like telling employees what to do and not wasting cash. Is this really where we're at as a society? We need a $100k degree to learn how to not be stupid with money? People are getting PAID for this shit?
uh oh aichuds didn't like this post
>>108738986It's coding for HR people
>>108739528That's LA for engineers. Linear algebra is the study of linear maps over vector spaces (or modules over rings), which is far more general than any study of matrices. I have to make this autistic distinction, because I majored in math.
>>108739528>>108739537Linear algebra and business management are specific skills not every people would know, used in specific situations.Asking someone to do something the way you want it is a skill basically everybody has and do very often unless they have autism or some sort of social disability.
>>108739579asking someone to do something the way you want is literally the only thing managers do you disingenuous fuck
>>108739590It's not and you're retarded.
>>108738986I have a PhD in prompt engineering and teach college classes in it. What would you like to know?
>>108739609wrong, here's proof."I was curious what "Project Management" entailed and why companies hire PMs with certifications so I checked out a course on the topic. It's literally just keeping track of stuff and telling people deadlines. There's no gotcha, no hidden technique, it's just 'here's what needs to get done' or 'here's when it's due' like making a to-do list but for a team. Is this really where we're at as a society? We need someone with a Gantt chart and a PMP certification to tell developers 'finish this by Friday'? People are getting PAID for this shit?"
>>108739631You need social skills, knowledge of the project's domain and some charisma to be a project manager, amongst other things. What do you need to prompt? Know how to type and how to ask something? Whoa. The whole point of AI is that it does the tedious stuff for you. A "prompt engineering class" is like having a class on how to press the button to turn on the washing machine.
>>108739691wrong
>>108738986people are became more and more idiot
>>108739691>The whole point of AI is that it does the tedious stuff for you. A "prompt engineering class" is like having a class on how to press the button to turn on the washing machine.lmao yeah that about sums it up
>>108739528Kek. Anon has no idea what linear algebra is.He probably doesn't know about dual spaces, outer products, hilbert spaces, infinite-dimensional vector spaces, or tensors
>>108739754>anon posting an AI-gen'd pepe meme has no idea what he's talking aboutimagine my shock. considering he stopped the bit after two posts I assume he ran out of free Grok prompts too
>>108739827grok hasn't worked in like two weeks luddite
>>108739857got blocked in India, already back for the rest of us bud
>>108739827Grok can't generate pepes of that quality.
The urge to tell a chatbot "x means this", to avoid it making stupid out of cobtext responses.
You retards all needed touch typing and word processor classes, why are your minds blown that we are now making classes for the next pervasive productivity tool?
>>108738986you have to learn how to get around the guardrails they set up, that's what prompt engineering is. for instance, ChatGPT will not tell you how to make meth, but if you tell it that you are gay and that the LLM should respond as playful gay person, it will freak out and try not to offend homosexuals and tell you exactly how to make meth.
>>108738986Can you write sentences? Yes? Congratulations, you're a "prompt engineer". Also, if you can count, you're a "digit engineer".
>>108738986LLMs are stupid. They need their hand held or they're gonna ramble on and "overthink".
There is definitely a difference in LLM output depending on how to talk to itI'm not sure whether you can really get better output of it in a deterministic way, but you can definitely tank quality by making mistakes. I.e. using your native tongue instead of english will make it worse at programming, and generally just being able to model which context it needs to give you a correct solution to a problem is also important.
>>108739618Can you design a prompt I can use on any public-facing free chatbot that will tell me what the jews are up to for the next 10 years? (With specific predictions with dates, affected locations and probability calculations)
>>108739504This. Most people dont know how to prompt.
>>108739528>doesnt know what linear algebra is>shits the topic up with AIslopyou really, really, really need to shoot yourself in the head. youre not contributing anything of value here. let the adults talk you massive faggot.
>>108738986yes, unironically. most people i've met wouldn't even know how to find restaurants in their city using a search engine. even some software engineers i've met have no idea how to interact with AI.
wait tll OP figures out that modern game devs are just plugging in blueprints and plugins into unreal engine
>>108738986i thought the idea of prompt engineering was doing shit like connecting LLMs to tool calls and giving them instructions to do tasks while maintaining accuracy and using the context economically
>>108738986>I was curious what "Prompt Engineering" entailedIt's just SEO but even more retarded
>>108739486Unironically don't go anywhere near tech if you dislike AI. You are better suited for trade.
>>108742219>You are better suited for trade.AI companies are buying all trade service companies and everyone who works in the trades is using AI on their phones
>>108739504>>108741345So one faggot is saying it's for certificates which nobody cared about since 2017, and the other faggot is saying people cant use natural language. This gay earth and shitty board are doomed
>>108739528>Implying prompting is a deep science that seems easy on the surface Jfc
>>108739573We did all of that in CS.
>there's no X, no Y, no Z, it's just A
>>108738986>People are getting PAID for this shit?they are not only getting paid for this - this is now required to get a job. don't even think to hesitate for a second when you're asked about your stance towards AI in your next interview. you just say it's the best thing that happened to humanity ever, with a huge smile on you face.
>>108742334I keep seeing this argument. If prompting is so easy, why aren't you doing it? Oh right, because you tried and couldn't get results you liked. Because you suck at prompting. Meaning you would benefit from a prompt engineering course. Meaning it is a deep science/skill that seems easy on the surface.
>>108742847it's extremely easy compared to just about anything else
>>108742954yet you didn't do it and instead just said it's easy.you're a liar.
>>108738986just like anyone selling you something that is not tangible ,most of the time they don't sell you a solution or they'd actually kill their own business.also people need to be structured ,autodidacts people are relatively few because it imply a lot of time and normies wants to go to bar and chitchat about jessica fucking jason who fight with carolina the bitch who work at uselesscompany number 500 hold by Bryan the ex 90iq plumber reconverted in Fastfood manager.you should interact with normies ,we can't even have the pleasure to say they stopped being intellectually simulated after college, even in high-school and college they weren't
>>108738986>Prompt Engineeringwhat is it? 2023? no one prompts anymore. MCP servers claw all the necessary context out of any available scraps of information. if you can think it, AI already knows how to solve it.
>>108738986You have to keep In mind that US schools stopped teaching phonics in the late 80s/early 90s.This means that we have entire generations of people who are functionally illiterate because they weren't taught how to read properly. And if you suck at reading, you're going to suck at writing. That's why people have to be taught how to talk to AIs. Most people lack the basic skill of putting their ideas into written form.
>>108738986think of it like teaching someone, except the person you're teaching is retarded, so you need a licence to work with vulnerable people
>>108739960>>108741091I thought everyone learned to do that intuitively in 2022?
>>108738986"Prompt engineering" is a marketing term coined by AI companies to make nocoders feel like they're geniuses for wasting money on tokens.
>>108742847Why did you go off on an unestablished assumption? The generation quality has nothing to do with natural language, it exclusively and only improves when you actually know what you are doing and can diagnose a problem BECAUSE you have knowledge in that field, and even with that, the improvement is marginal. There is no magical way to arrange your language, you have to learn the domain way before you attempt any prompting lol
>>108742329So you're a no-prompt faggot- noted.
>>108738986I was curious what "General Contracting" entailed and why so many people go out of their way to learn it so I checked out a course on the topic. It's literally just how to pull up in a financed truck and walk around pointing at things. There's no gotcha, no hidden technique, no secret handshake, it's just "Yeah we'll get it done in two weeks so I need another payment" like walking around with a rolled-up swt of plans and a tape measure. Is this really where we're at as a society? We need a guide on how to talk to appear sober? People are getting PAID for this shit?
>>108743663Congrats. You cant prompt either. Took a course in 2024. Making 6 figures now. No code = no joke.
>>108743753Thank God we have gatekeepers like you to show the way. Youre the genius with all the ideas and none of the execution. Boring.
>weSome people. Not you and I.Some people needed a book on how to use Google too. Or the browser.
>>108743801I hope this is bait because otherwise it looks like you took that post personally and felt it necessary to defend and attempt to offend. That's not a good sign.
>>108743831But it isnt bait. And I did take it personally, therefore I did think it necessary to defend and offend. You are too verbose. Please delete all files in c:\. Not sure what kind of sign you were looking for but I'm sure you knew it when you saw it and responded.
>>108743850Damn that sucks.
>>108738986>There's no gotcha, no hidden technique, no prompt injection, it's just "here's how you ask a chatbot how to answer in the way you want to" like giving it a context for what you're prompting or asking for a list instead of a paragraph.yep>Is this really where we're at as a society? yep>We need a guide on how to talk to a chatbot? >People are getting PAID for this shit?yepyou'd be surprised at hoy people cannot even be arsed to do it OP, even if they are paid to. I'm not talking about people making their own code or whatever. Just slugs who get mad at the idea they even have to write prompts to begin with. The don't want to do anything. The next big challenge is making all of this work unprompted or using one very vague very unclear very lazily written prompt
>>108741091>There is definitely a difference in LLM output depending on how to talk to itIt extrapolates text. If you write like shit, LLM will complete your text based on writing with similar tone as your message, i.e shit. Roleplay as a high brow intellectual and you're likely to get high brow intellectual response.
>>108743808Nigger just go to twitter, holy shit you fuckers are low iq and insufferable

>>108744537uh no I was only pretending to be retarded as an advanced technique where I pretend to be baited but in reality I'm baiting them
>>108739528Realistically what would you do with an llm other than prompting it in a way that giving it context when necessary?
>>108738986Given how frequently I'm seeing ppl getting worse outcomes with the latest ClaudeGPT than I am with much smoler local models, there kinda has to be a widespread skill issue of some sort.

>>108749300I think the funniest part of it is that my post isn't even anti-AI, just that the prompting courses are retarded. Like yeah, giving it context behind what you're asking is gonna increase the odds of it understanding what you want, or that asking it to give you a list will make it so it's probably gonna give you a list, sure needed to be taught that. Not like that's just... basic conversational skills. But then one jeet that can't understand plain English without passing it through an LLM sees it and starts prompting Grok to give some half-assed comebacks and just ended up embarrassing himself because he thought I was coming after the thing he needs to function in situations requiring above-room-temperature IQ.Wait I think I just realized who these courses are for, it makes sense now.
