sometimes stuff that didn't read well on VLC worked just fine. I have no idea why so I keep VLC and mpv in case it doesn't work

I can't understand VLC worship because when I initially tried it 20 years ago or so it used to be utter shit that took a second to actually pause after pressing the pause button. The only good thing about it was not having to play with directshow codecs on windows. Haven't had problems with mpv though, besides some commit breaking the hw decoder selection for Rockchip recently.

Sure, in some operating systems there are nicer front ends for MPV (such as IINA for macOS), and on Android I'd prefer MX Player + ffmpeg codec. But there really isn't anything I can fault it for.

I recently downloaded some Instagram videos with gallery-dl and mpv played back green vomit while Gwenview chugged along just fine.

have this issue on mac when sometimes when opening a file with it, the window do no open even though the video is being played (you can still hear the sound). why is that?
