Is it normal for browsers in 2026 to consume 4GB ram? That's half of my laptop's memory...
>>108746787ram exists to be used, software should use as much free ram as exists.
>>108746787is anything normal in 2026 ?javascript is pure fucking cancer

>>108746787sadly yes, but it's not quite as bad as everyone says I think. I have FF with 40 tabs active and a fair amount of bloat adons and it's only using about 8gb. Basically prepare for it to get a lot worse soon
>>108746811I'm also on Firefox and it's using nearly 5GB with only 6 tabs rn...
>>108746787How many tabs?

>unused ram = wasted rammfw oom
no
>>108746787Depends on the website, some websites are downright cratering your computer with so many ads/trackers that they'll burn through 1GB of RAM or more per tab. Here's some dishonorable mentions I've come to avoid like the black plague:Weather Underground: ~1.5 to 2 GB total RAMKnow Your Meme: ~2 to 3 GB total RAMFandom pages: 1.5 to 2 GB RAMForbes: 1 GB RAMIf you're not maxing out your anti ad/tracker extensions don't even consider visiting these shit holes. Meanwhile I can have like 10 4chan tabs open and they'll collectively eat through 1 GB or so of RAM.
>>108746787depends the browser itself needs 500mb or less to work, the rest is like the anon above said, it depends on the website, some websites abuse the ad/tracker system or use a bad implementation, also the browser sometimes reserver some ram to make loading websites and operating them faster, for me chrome use 4gb for the dozen of websites I have open, enable sleeping tabs to reduce ram usage for websites you have open but don't use frequently
>>108746811>>1087468541 GB for medafuq you guys doing
>>108747645>>108746854>>108746811>>108746787>this is supposed to be the technology-literate boardprograms use more RAM the more max RAM you have because unused RAM is literally wasted RAM

>unused nigger is a wasted dnigger
>>108746794No, is not. The problem are the pieces of trash who got jobs in tech without knowing shit like this one: >>108746792 Corpos hire they/them because corpos feel identified with those frauds.
yes. is it wrong? also yes? can you do something about it? yes, give up convince
>>108747876>js not canermost webpages and content can be delivered with plain html5, but javascript cancer so strong it spread massively over to nonweb desktop apps, that aside skilled people are hired but they stopped giving a shit, projects are built with 0 passion and enthusiasm, only goal is to please higher end stakeholders and getting a good fiscal year, any voices of reason are suppressed etc. etc.
>>108746787use less tabs
