Why is low end hardware so fun to use?
>>108752695>low end hardwareLike what, the Nintendo N64?
>>108752710well the games were good. Like the original Super Smash bros
>>108752704PCs mostly but old consoles are pretty fun too
>>108752695Because the low entry cost leads to low expectations that are easy to beat. I'm a lot more excited to see a $30 ESP32 board do something compared to a $1000 PC doing the same thing.
Because it's probably like playing a game on hard mode. You're likely actively navigating the use of limited resources which may feel like a form of puzzle-solving.
Constraints force/demand ingenuity.
>>108752695More to tinker with. Your “low-end” was probably not low-end for the time so you’re actually getting high-end performance out of it if you keep it within its time period. (You will never see “fast” like a PIII 700MHz running Windows 98). Also experience has distilled the time period to its very best. You’re not going to be using uTorrent 1.5x (there’s a reason nobody talks about utorrent before 1.6. It just didn’t work well.). You’re not going to be playing Daikatana. You won’t be struggling with RealPlayer. You have a clean environment of just the best.
>>108752921taking a celeron mendocino up to 500mhz and seeing it compete with the P3 is pretty cool
If I underclock my CPU to 500MHz, will I have fun?
>>108754085no, you have to overclock a shit cpu
>>108752695The same is true for cars. It's much more fun to drive fast in a slow car than drive slow in a fast car because you know it's giving you all it can give. It's the same reason old PCs had a "turbo" button. It didn't make them any faster, but it made them FEEL faster. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go run Second Reality on my 486DX2
>>108752695An excuse to getgud at assembly code.
>>108752695Low power usage is satisfying.
>>108754916>because you know it's giving you all it can givethis answers it well
>>108752695>Why is low end hardware so fun to use?Doing more with less is what progress is supposed to be about
>>108754916>It didn't make them any faster, but it made them FEEL fasterNigga the turbo button actually did something. It was to switch between CPU speeds because some old DOS software could run too fast with newer CPUs
No, I have a cyberdeck is collecting dust, because it's shitter than my phone
high end pc doing something cool-> :Llow end pc doing something cool-> :O
>>108755560:D
>>108755560this but unironically :DDDDDD
