GNOME mogs KDE in ram usage.
people will come in and say unused ram is wasted ram and all that crap but ram usage (with a relative comparison) is really the best metric to see software qualitythat said, fedora is a piece of shit bloated distro, ram usage on it is extremely high, and both gnome and kde have junk GUI app stores that run constantly in the background and take literally hundreds of mb of ram
>>108756237>is a piece of shit bloated distroSo, it works?
>>108756227Too bad it doesn't mog KDE in features or usefulness.
>>108756281what makes you think features and usefulness are metrics?
>>108756227I get just a few hundred megs with KDE. This comparison is rigged.
>>108756227is "it" proud to be made of JS?
>>108756227Both are inferior to LXQT
>>108756227easy to have small ram when you do literally nothing at allfor its features, gnome should be much lowerwhat do you expect from someone trying to do OOP in C.
>>108756281what features? krashing constantly?
Now post vram use
>>108756237>fedora is a piece of shit bloated distroits literally missing codes, drivers etc.all it does is come with kde apps which are actually pretty good
>>108757471It literally just asks you if you want that right after installing it and it's one fucking button, how hard can it possibly be
>>108757495it doesnt, only the rpm fusion but you sitll need to add them manually
>>108756537Meh. KDE hasn't crashed on me in the last four years or maybe more.
>>108756227Gnome's fluidity glitches every now and then. KDE always feels snappy for multitasking.
>>108756227There are all sorts of benchmarks. How do we know yours is reliable?Free ram is wasted ram. Taking into account the ram prices right now, it is pretty stupid to waste it.
That's worse than fucking Windows which uses around 1GB after boot.
>>108756227So? I have lots of RAM. Are you some kind of RAM poor?
>>108756227nigga we been knew
>>108756227I have 64GB I don't care
>>108758196kek i like that bench
>>108758701That's a lie and you know it.>>108758706Don't you understand? That extra 300MB is enough to make or break anons multitasking session
>>108759623Huh, I took a screenshot to prove you wrong, but turns out it's nowhere near 1GB. Could be because I updated to LTSC21. I'd have sworn it is around 1GB at least on LTSC19. I'm going to test this some time.
>>108756227>pick compositor>install dank material shell or noctalia-shell>mog both this has been a solved issue for a while already
>>108758701Windows 11 is using more than 3 giga bloats in my mom's shitty laptop without any program open after a reboot... That shitty OS sucks.>B-ut the OS will take as much ram as it needs! The laptop has 4gbs... It shouldn't be using 90% of ram...
>>108759966Yeah, I agree that's ridiculous
>>108756227KDE on Arch btw
>Web Browser: 3GB>Everything Else: 2.5GBFucking shit!
>>108756287and KDE is probably made with QML garbage too, same difference. at least JS is a real language with users.
>>1087599663 gigs is small for windows, mine idles at like 7gb even after purging all the microshitware from it
>>108760144>distro enables more optional background services by default>uses more ramWOOOOOOOW
>>108756281give us one concrete example

>>108762555A friend of mine asked me to resurrect an old ass compaq with 1GB ram, i upgraded the ram to 4 with some spare old i had and installed devuan with xfce4, works like a charme. Sounds like that your laptop may just work even with any modern systemd distro and mate or xfce4 (ed: one of the linux mint spins).
