so why would someone submit a security patch to Linux?
>You’re fucking this up so badly>I’ll just do it myself Jesus fucking Christ
>>108759879Because the whole world relies on Linux and the license is designed that every change has to be upstreamed. Google, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, AMD, Intel and many more have full time devs working on it. You can keep your security patch for yourself, but then you can't redistribute it, without giving the source. That's why I think the GPL is great for world wide programs.>btw I don't get picrel.. I don't know what you are trying to say
>>108759879That bird's not getting a hot gf.
>>108759879becauses they are paid to do so? >95% of linux code is from paid programmers.
>>108759988 I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux! I meant a Linux distro with large repositories.>>108759974so you put that on your resume and get a job?but what if it's not enough but you could sell it for crypto?
>>108760061no i was referring to the linux kernel.
>>108759879I'm ready to believe this because therapists are fucking retarded. They can't fathom a reality outside of their normieverse
>>108759879Oof. That's a bit harsh. Such things should be conveyed with words such as, "stop being such a faggot"!
>>108760270the only people dumber than therapists are people who go to therapy
No, the therapist is right. The bird is me within the security of open source software. The therapist is saying I should get a Mac if I like Unix so much.
>>108760425>the only people dumber than the rapists are people who go to the rapy
>>108759879there's plenty of people you could ask, why do you want to speculate on the known?
>>108759879Behead all therapists
>>108759879That's literally me.I like to convince myself that I'm a cage but I sort of like it as well. It brings comfort. I don't like to venture into the unknown and try new things aside from food.As you might have guessed I don't have a gf
>>108759974>That's why I think the GPL is great for world wide programs.hows that?
>>108759879Usually, because you or the business you work for depends on Linux being safe and reliable. By upstreaming your patch, any ongoing maintenance for it is offloaded to others. If you kept it private, you would need to manually maintain it against new releases of Linux. In practice, usually you would just find the issue and maybe write a proof-of-concept and submit it to a maintainer cc security@kernel. Then someone who works on the kernel regularly (most likely as their full time job) will investigate and fix it.
>>108760425The only therapists I've seen that I would trust are the ones who became therapists to work through their own mental illnesses they had because all the therapists they were going to were dog shit.
>>108759879that doesn't happen. people don't do that.
