This is the best Mac Pro ever
>>
It's cool in theory but part of the mac pro appeal was that it supported third party cards. Also the thermal design was pretty much at its limit from the start. It looked really cool but it was just a dead end.

I've been defending Apple from this place for years but this was so stupid it was fucking unreal

The worst part about liking Apple products is that they became a parody of themselves almost immediately after Jobs died. It looks like vehemently explaining that they did literally everything right and then almost immediately tanked and started doing shit like this
>>
Wasn't the entire fucking gimmick if this literal piece of trash to be LE EFFICIENT at getting rid of the heat it produces? Why on earth did it fail so hard at literally the one thing it was made for?

You couldn’t be more wrong nigger.
It was the Mac Pro 5,1
Dual 6 core Westmere Xeons with 98GB of triple channel DDR3 and Dual RX Vega 64s

All 4 bays filled with SATA Intel Optane SSDS AND A PCIe M.2 card for my M.2 Intel Optane CARD

This shit is still based
>>
>>108761140
The only issue with this is that I’d could’ve had double the I/O as those tho Xeons could each handle 32 channels of PCIe
>>
>>108760606
This shit was ass for xeon, however would be ideal for M pro max ultra extreme or whatever the fuck they're called now.

>A Legit Pro Workstation

This was Apple called Pro before the faggot took over.

A modern Mac Pro should be something with a Threadripper
>>
>>108761096
Because it warrants defending.

There's different kinds of "smart" in this world. If you want one way to exemplify this, it might be /g/ and its relationship with Apple computers.

This is a board that programs computers for a living. It's very technical and mentally demanding stuff.
When it comes to "critical thinking", "taste", "creativity", or "seeing between the lines", this place is borderline retarded. And I'm not joking when I say that.

When someone says "Apple computers have terrible performance you can build a PC that runs twice as fast for the same price", the rebuttal is not one of technicality, but "you're completely missing the point".

A Linux box is an open source and free and free as in freedom box of tools that you can assemble into literally whatever you want.
A Macintosh computer is a clean, monolithic, premium piece of metal that you buy knowing exactly what to expect and then replace.

/g/ looks at both of these and sees "computer" and says that one of them sucks they can't install Turbo Weyland and rice it out with big titty anime bitches.

This has been an introduction to /g/ and its relationship with Apple. The year is 2026 and I've been here since around 2011. It's the same discussion every time and "the discussion" is borderline retarded.

Again, my opinion of Apple has been waning since Steve Jobs died a decade and a half ago, this is despite and not because of this. This board just lacks the basic mental faculties to process the fundamental classification of different tools.

Apple still wins as far as build quality. There is no one else in the world I trust other than Rolls Royce or Lockheed Martin to produce something that just werks where I can trust that a piece of metal is perfectly ergonomic and perfectly sealed down to the nanometer.
It's amazing, because every or piece of wearable technology looks almost identical, but it's just... not the same.

its a great design but the machines had terrible hardware with two crappy gpus that were betting on the wrong horse
2013 was a dark age in computing

the new macs mini and studio are practically the same thing only with worse design while being actually usable
>>
>>108761336
Apple is having a renaissance now. Yeah, there's much less innovation than before. So what. The breakthrough they had with ARM is what put them over the top. Now they have best in class software AND hardware. While they were still Intel they were just a locked down version of a normal computer.

>>
>>108761544
I'm sorry I forgot about their borderline miraculous work on the M series processors.

/g/ is literally never going to acknowledge this because making an objectively faster computer chip is incompatible with everything they want to believe.

>>
>>108761741
No these people are 100% serious and I can attest to this based on the long diatribe that they write.

It's still idiotic. But just because it makes no sense doesn't mean they don't have strong convictions.
There are various different flavors of this pretension where /g/ insists that <old thing> or <antiquated thing> or <hard to use thing> is supposed to be superior because <ad hominem> of a mustache clad hipster redditor exists.
It looks like insisting you should use the C language for everything or recommending a Lenovo Thinkpad with Arch Linux for a 19 year old trying to make it through med school.

The M series is what moved the needle for me. There is a lot of slander about mac on here, people think it doesn't have a CLI or package manager even. But some people are catching on, especially now that they're catering to poorfags more
>>
>>108764347
I find the little shits (the minis) to do a lot of stuff, but I also find that Apple is a bunch of faggots, because they're selling desktop computers that are pretty unusable with external monitors that aren't theirs or the 4 or 5 5k monitors out there that are worth a shit.

Apple will never go back to x86. Every past architecture transition was a pain, rolling their own chips keeps them safe from other companies' whims and fuckups.

Anon, in the end, you've been here almost as long as myself, but you still don't get it. This IS a place for people who just do not want simple solutions. Everything has to be complicated and full of struggle, and everyone participating is finicky and full of themselves. Not because they are wrong, but because it's their choice and their place to act like that.
You can go to /his/ and try to convince a great geopolitical scholar who writes posts like 'lol kill nigs', but he visits this site not to be convinced, but to indulge himself in actions that will be shunned in every other place or situation in the real world.
So you are basically the guy who just went 'WHY YOU GUYS CAN'T BE NORMAL' on the site that is dedicated to acting like a selfish, pompous prick. So yeah, 'not posting is winning' guy is right.

>Now they have best in class software AND hardware.
I've been a windows user for decades, went to linux a year ago and haven't looked back, what's the appeal of OS X? I haven't used it in forever, but the demo Macbook Neo I played around with for a few minutes the other day looked like a bit of a mess. Shit keyboard too.
I'm still tempted by the Macbook Pro for its ridiculous battery life and supposedly good build quality, and the M chips are something I want to play around with.
Is it really that much better, though?
>>
>>108764902
>the demo Macbook Neo I played around with for a few minutes the other day looked like a bit of a mess.
Actually it's because beneath all the gay nonsense, it's still mostly the same system and it's pretty usable considering the architecture. Basically the tradeoff is not enough to go back to x86 and there really is a lot of fucking software working just as fine as it did back on intel macs with the exception of games and dual booting.
I use all three systems right now with arch on my main desktop and windows on a work laptop and sure, I got too used to linux for some macOS bullshit (specially regarding displays, I find it rich people complain about X11 and wayland) but I honestly think there's some form of retardation to this "I won't learn a new thing because it costs money" bullshit that I keep seeing in regards to macOS in particular. Like no nigga, a fucking prompt doesn't stop you. You can do a lot of your bullshit all the same. It's just more GUI focused which some motherfuckers are allergic at.

Sounds like I'm better off sticking with linux then, at least until my laptop dies. I don't use AI and I play enough games to make replacing my desktop PC with something like an M5 Studio entirely pointless.
>>
>>108765146
>an M5 Studio entirely pointless.
Yeah not anytime soon. Even a maxed out M5 studio wouldn't be enough if you expect to play current stuff
>>
>>108760606
Style over substance as usual. Apple wants to be the Louis Vuitton of tech. Computers as fashion accessories rather than tools. Computers for women.

What I did was upgrade from my old thinkpad x220 to a macbook m1 16gb ram and repurpose the thinkpad into a debian home server / seedbox that I run headless and ssh into from my macbook
The only games I play are retro so I dont have a desktop PC, and macbook (even ipad) handles all my gaming for now. if you dont have a home server and your laptop is really old it might not be too wasteful to upgrade. shitposting and watching media in bed on a fanless 2k screen is pretty comfy. my old thinkpad was getting 1hr of battery per charge, but the macbook can last a whole week being used daily without being charged. i've dipped my toes into some ai things, mostly generating audiobooks, and it's kind of nice to have. on thinkpad i was conditioned to always need a mouse but the trackpad on macbooks are amazing in comparison. once you learn the macos trackpad shortcuts it feels good to use
