Probably not, but I got one for my office and have noticed significantly less dust in my desktop and home server as a result. So I guess it makes my pooters live longer.

Sorry I'm just looking up my desk here... Uh, yeah, they will make you live 3x as long as a regular fan. The exaggerated purpose and need for them in your home is definitely not to make an acoustic fog for mapping out every digital and radio device in your home.

If you have a typical centrally-ducted forced-air HVAC system there's a HEPA filter right next to your furnace that makes these entirely redundant. If you don't, then strapping one of those filters to a box fan is significantly cheaper and significantly more effective than buying whatever the fuck that is.

Absolutely this.
20x20 filters are inexpensive and will continue to be manufactured for the rest of our lives, unlike the overpriced bespoke filters for whatever purifier system some Chinese factory pumped out last year and then promptly forgot about forever.

Better to build a coof cube. They have more airflow and don't make the fan struggle so much.

Four filters, a box fan, and some duct tape.
If you're feeling frisky, four legs out of 2x2, five filters, a box fan and duck tape.
At one point i found an stl that made it easier to change the filters but I lost it. Now I'll probably just build a wood frame out of 2x2s and just put some rotatable tabs to make swapping the filters easy.
>>
>>108764546
Thanks. This pollen is kicking my ass so I'll give this a shot.
>>
>>108764519
>>108764546
haven't made one of these but i was interested and looked these up and it seems they aren't a meme. like sure merv13 filters don't filter as well as fancy hepa ones, but the sheer throughput you can get out of a cheap diy box like this means you can filter the air in a room multiple times over compared to an off-the-shelf air purifier which more than makes up for it
>>
>>108764564
The main reason to use more filters is it increases the surface area the fan pulls air against. This makes it much easier for the fan to pull air through the filters and allows it to run cooler and flow more air with less noise.

>>108762487
Yes, but not with these kinds of commercial air purifiers, or at least not in this size and price range. Most name brand air purifiers on the market are loud, power hungry, require proprietary filters, and don't actually move much air (which means they don't do much for filtration). You're paying for a placebo.

If you want something cheap and effective, build a CR box with a box fan and some MERV13 filters. It'll look ugly and still be loud, but it'll actually work. If you want something that's quieter and more efficient, and are willing to spend the money, look into PC fan air purifiers. There's a few manufacturers on the internet selling kits for them with varying price points and materials. More expensive, but the performance is real. You can also fully DIY your own for cheaper if you're willing and/or capable of building a frame, since everything but the housing uses off-the-shelf parts.
>>
just diy it
those are pretty shit
>>
>>108764726
get the ikea ones
it doesnt matter how effective they are that much as much as the total airflow

It's bullshit. HEPA filters need massive airflow to work properly. You need an industrial-tier system and fans to make it work.
It's etter to get an elaborate reverse osmosis water filter for your kitchen tap. Water will make you live much longer.
>>
>>108765171
you dont need massive airflow but definitely more than those consumer ones provide
>>
>>108765171
>HEPA filters need massive airflow to work properly
You need air going in one side of the filter and out the other.
>>
levoit is garbage as is most of the chinkshit on amazon. Coway and Winix are crap too. These things don't have a proper seal so air will bypass the filter and the unit will get clogged with dust.
99.blablabla% when more than 1% of the air doesn't even pass through the filter.
buy an iqair healthpro plus or an airpura unit.
You need to oversize your units because the cadr is bullshit measured at max speed on brand new filters. Also these unit are worthless on automode or silent mode. You need constant air exchanges and for that they need to run on a high setting.
Anything tiny will be noisy because of the high air resistance and small fans.

>>
>>108764726
Why wouldn't they sell air conditioner filters in Europe? Surely you guys have air conditioning?
>>
>>108762487
I use a shitty air purifier that's barely just a fan and filter, especially when I vacuum, and it seems to make the air less annoying, and I'll sneeze less. As long as the filter is getting dirty, shit is being pulled from the air. Live longer or not, a dusty living space is slowly miserable.
>>
>>108762487
large round filters are pretty logical (because yea that's one design to pull in air through a large filter area) but it doesn't really need a "high torque" motor lol

It probably helps with polluted air rather than just pollen allergies too, yes. It's not a bad idea if filtering your air intake directly isn't feasible and you just try to make the best of using windows or random hatches for ventilation.

Is pic related good? I've been running this thing for awhile and it doesn't feel like my room is any less dusty. It feels like it's doing nothing but it's highly rated by multiple sources including consumer reports. Is this thing legit or not.
>>
>>108767903
If you close the window, you will die from lack of oxygen and build-up of poisonous gases.
>>
>>108764546

>Box fans are designed for high-volume, low-pressure air movement, typically providing very low static pressure (well under 0.1–0.2 inches of water column). They are inefficient against resistance, meaning air filters or obstructions significantly reduce airflow, increase noise, and can cause motor strain. They are not designed for high-static-pressure applications.

Its called corsi-rosenthal box. You need a bunch of PC fans and cheap fine dust filters (80% filtration rate is fine since it cycles trough the filter anyways).
>>

>>
>>108766934
The dust is literally coming from you. Easy way to confirm: close all your windows, leave a door open in your room and put an air purifier next to it.
>>
Bought pic related. It's not bad, I don't have any allergies but the air in the room does feel less dusty. It's worth considering the ventilation in the room before using it, if you have some sort of active system (like a recuperator) then this thing will be useless.
>>
>>108771215
This is why you use more filters to decrease the static load as much as possible.
>>108771390
Depends, generally you can smell the ozone they make and it's not healthy to breath it. An ozone generator is a great way to kill pests or smells though. Put one in a stinky car for a day and the smell will be gone.

Will this make my room less dusty? My desk literally gets caked in dust less than a week after wiping it. I can't even tell where the dust is coming from.
Carpet?
Clothes?
Organic matter from my skin?
Outside? (I keep my window open often, though I don't live in a dry/dusty location)
>>
>>108764546
Wait, so the fan is sucking air from the top, blowing it into the chamber and forcing it through the filter media?
>>
>>108771592
It comes from literally all sources especially if you have a bed in there. It obviously will make the air cleaner. It is a good thing. You will see the difference in your nose clogging less and the air smelling fresher. Just make sure the air cleaner is oversized so it can filter without too much noise.

Baby heads should not dent in so much what an appaling pic.
