There is literally NO reason to buy a GPU for your PC. The Voodoo is DOA; you don't "need" a GPU for DOOM or Quake and anyone who cares about pretty 3D graphics beyond that already has a PlayStation.

Did I brick my system?

Specs:

I have a Sega Saturn.
No one else seems to have one. It's really neat.
There is only one shelf full of games to rent at the closest shop(and it's the only one that rents Saturn games in a pretty big suburb).
The boxes are also oversized, so there's like...9 games to rent or something.
The best game is Winning Post. It's a horse racing sim.
Virtua Fighter and Daytona are alright. And This golf game I got as a gift, the main character is some fat golfer in the PGA called 'The Walrus'(he is real). The game is alright.
I'm having fun, but Playstation was cheaper...and this guy in my class who got it seems to be enjoying it. Maybe I should have gotten that, but who can trust the Sony Walkman and stereo makers over Sega?
Saturn is fun though.
Future will will surely also buy the next Sega console, it came to me in a Dream...

They get shit on a lot and rightfully so for their bargain bin cheap shit PCs, but they actually were an innovative company since they were the first guys to sell pre-set up PCs. Not even kidding. In the early days, like if you bought an IBM XT or something, you had to do everything yourself like formatting and partitioning the hard disk and installing all software. Nothing was pre-loaded from the factory. So Packard Bell were the first guys to have fully pre-formatted hard disks with the OS installed.

I don't think it sounded true at any year.

In 1986, maybe, but during the '80s IBM PC compatibles were totally disabled graphically-wise compared even to much cheaper consoles, and since the first half of the '90s everyone wanted to be “3D”, and expensive arcade machines with polygon rasterizers showed everyone the future.

The problem was the kind of 3D they imagined. Combined 2D backgrounds (Alone in the Dark, FF7), secondary small windows in the interface (Eye of the Beholder), Wolfenstein 3D-like maze shooters and other environments like race tracks always moving in a single direction or enclosed rooms where wall polygons did not need to be sorted. Hardware makers were assuming very low pixel overwrite ratio (2-3 at most), and that did not allow random camera and object positions.

http://web.archive.org/web/19970707220556/http://www.vxm.com/21R.98.html
https://web.archive.org/web/19980202165701/http://www.vxm.com/21R.114.html

Then 3dfx (and in part Playstation) showed that fill rate dominated everything, and people were fine with 8×8 pixel textures if the gameplay felt dynamic and reactive instead of slow.

IE3 tranny hands typed this. I don't care that it supports frames now. The moment Bill Gates bought the internet is the moment I stopped caring. Java is the future. Write once, run anywhere. Think about what this means. I never have to think about the OS again. The OS is dead. Microsoft is dead and they just don't know it yet. In five years everything runs in the browser as a Java applet.
>>
Think about what Netscape is doing. It's sending your ENTIRE BROWSING HISTORY back to their servers in California. How do I know this? I ran a packet sniffer on my PPP connection while loading their homepage and saw outbound traffic that I cannot fully explain. Do not use a GUI browser. Lynx renders text. Text is enough. If a webpage requires more than text it is not a webpage, it is a brochure. I will not be reading brochures.
