Why has the Xbox been the only successful Microsoft hardware venture to date?
>>
>>108777297
zune was kino
roasties preferred ipods
>>
>>108777351
No, chads preferred iPods, thots just followed suit.
>>
>Sidewinder
>Intellimouse
were successful just discontinued for no reason
>>
is the xbox successful? what games does the xbox have as of now that are not on pc?
>>
>>108777418
It might be failing now, but it was successful for a good 15+ years. Maybe it didn't make more than sony/nintendo, but it was successful venture.
>>
>>108777450
the red ring fiasco cost them billions
>>
>>108777450
Precisely.
Not everything is Pokemon or the iphone or Fast & Furious installment #264345.
Is the Xbox a big dick player presently?
No.
Was its fall preventable?
Probably.
Was it incredibly successful for a really long time as far as tech is concerned?
Absolutely.
>>
>>108777507
remember when xbox wanted to add an always online facial recognition device to your xbox
>>
The microsoft wavy keyboards used to be nice, can't find one in good condition nowdays
>>
>>108777511
I don't actually but that sounds on brand.
>>
>>108777351
You had to download shitty software to transfer music for the most part.

It's ironic. Microsoft hardware fails because of shitty software.

I know right iTunes was bullshit who would ever install software to transfer music to a player lol
>>
>>108777683
My E280 with rockbox still works great
>>
>>108778047
Was iTunes that bad? I know the Windows version was terrible.

I remember it being terribly bloated. I didn't have an iPod, I just wanted a music player and switched to foobar2000 after a short while. Still using it 20+ years later.

Speaking of shitty software, did anyone here use this god damn mess in the early 2000s? I had some version to use with a portable CD player that crashed constantly.

Yeah SonicStage turned me off of minidisc causing my mz-nf610 to sit in a sock drawer for most of its life which is a shame because MD is a rad piece of tech. For anyone interested in minidisc especially netmd check out web.minidisc.wiki its open source and can even rip atrac files off md to your pc.

Hardware development is really difficult and MS tried it as a side gig. Repeatedly.

Reminder that Zune introduced the Metro design that was so fancy even Apple was jealous of it.
>>
I have a Microsoft Ergonomic Desktop™ keyboard and mouse and like them.
>>
software company going to hardware mostly ends up poorly
>>
>>108778270
Macfags swore it was better on Mac but they were always full of shit. I had a friend with one and it looked like he was having most of the same issues with it as PC users were.

The Zune software was very good in comparison, but it was still proprietary software to use the hardware you bought. The final Zune they made, ZuneHD I think it was, was a great player but it was too little too late

Zune wasn't terrible
I remember as the earliest Windows phones (not mobile) used Zune for media transfer and updates. It always worked.
The biggest complaint is more it existed when I was already used to just dropping files to an SD card.
>>
>>108778439
Yeah it was arguably bloated even by modern Standards.
>>

>Xbox
>successful
It's been a money pit since day one. Should've offloaded it to Samsung back in the mid 2010s when they were interested in buying it.
>>
>>108777297
Windows was the most successful, until they ruined it.

Now Apel with their Apel Neo is going to take over the market. This is going to blow black peoples' minds, they are still using HDD dell laptops with Windows 7 on them that take 5 minutes to open a youtube video with ads.

As per normal people we are switching to Ubuntu

INB4: Github gets destroyed by Microsoft
Download Github asap if you want to train your own models before microsoft cucks it, they for sure are working hard on that.
>>
>>108777297
Because Microsoft abandons all their hardware AND even their software leaving you out of money and completely fucked. It's what they do. Only retards buy Microsoft hardware other than mice and keyboards. Microsoft only exists to financially rape idiots.

Going from the dog shit aero "lickable buttons" era of design to Metro was honestly amazing when I first used a Zune. The amount of baffling changes that came with it though and ruined its impact with dog shit like full screen tablet based desktop design paradigms and the slow death of performance in windows ruined what could have been an amazing switch as we exited the 2000s era. BUT NOOOO the future was going to be 2-in-1 tablets because of the Surface line. It's gotten so bad we have unironic zoomers wanting to fucking go back to a Windows Vista, Apples dog shit liquid glass paradigm, and the fact that GNOME even exists.

Samsung buying Xbox would have been honestly a ruin.
In the early 2010s Samsung was jumping ships a lot: BadaOS, Tizen, Android, back to Tizen. Xbox would have been immediately something Samsung was excited to experience: mobile gaming (while figuring out mobile in general).
Would have become basically Ouya 2.0 and immediately sunsetted the moment mobile games were on devices good enough to hold good graphics and gameplay.
>>
>>108777658
Dude iTunes is way shittier than Zune software ever was.
>>
>>108777297
Surface is also pretty successful.
>>
>>108777418
It was a success
The Xbone made it a failure
>>
>>108777658
Zune software was a little heavy on the CPU for the time when compared to lighter media players like Winamp, but it was actually very clean and easy to use. I actually kept using it for several years after I stopped using my Zune because it was just really easy to manage my library with.
