But it can charge my phone, provided I use a specific cable. And if I use the USB-A to C port on my laptop, it can charge my phone with any cable. On the other hand my external speaker with a USB-C input won't charge with my laptop with any cable. USB is a fucking nightmare. Even if we don't cover the retarded naming schemes, you never know if the gadget you bought is going to work with the cable you have, or if it'll only work with a USB-A to C cable, or if it'll require a dedicated wall charger to negotiate the right power output.
