i'm glad that it only took them like 33 years to add ctrl+click to deselect a selected cell in excel.

Powerful software that has become slow as molasses by that I mean bloated. Office 2010 was fast an really well optimized all the newer versions are slower 2016 is when shit hit the fan. Otherwise the best office suite that has ever existed.

TBQH, it's garbage compared to WordPerfect Suite. Hell, OnlyOffice is more comfortable, and that shit's free.

The cloud version sometimes fails at doing equations and just lists the equation itself.

Sometimes the microsoft365 version will just not load an excel spreadsheet.

The microsoft365 one will always fail to get the dark theme for the browser correctly unless you are using microsoft edge on the latest windows 11 version (25h2 atm).

Sometimes the Microsoft365 version will flat out just fail to save the file in the cloud because the servers are busy.

Microsoft Office .docx documents take much longer to upload and be processed by ocr services and llm's compared to their .odt counterparts, with the .odt's using far less tokens as well.

Microsoft Office Word also takes ages to save files compared to LibreOffice and microsoft office will actually freeze up every other office program running on the desktop (including excel) until it finishes saving.

I can only imagine people are still using Microsoft Office on a daily basis because of business deals, specific use cases they've never just typed /"li/" into a search engine on its own before.

This idiot appears in every excel thread. He thinks accountants are going to write custom python scripts instead of formulas.

They recently broke the Microsoft Activation Scripts on MacOS and nobody noticed.

I tried switching to LibreOffice and the other alternatives but they all suck for different reasons.
In the end, I started using those shitty Google online clones.

Well, I can give you my opinion as a System Administrator.

I think one of the worst mistakes that they made was that god-awful Click-to-Run Virtualization Technology. It runs more like a hot service than an actual application, and will update itself, which is fucking annoying if you have a static VDI environment, because it eats bandwidth and CPU cycles, then when it tries to update it can't find DLLs because reasons.

Addins are a fucking nightmare. I don't mind the inherent concept of addins, and frankly, I wish there were lots of them, but Addin Management is a confusing mess. Some are COM Addins, some are VSTO, some are some other ancient technology. When they fail to load it's impossible to figure out why. You can't dynamically control the load order or force it to load even if it's being slow. this means shit goes south real quickly for our finance and investments guys.

Outlook is another nightmare. They haven't figured out how to manage large email inboxes, which sucks for us sysadmins because executives haven't figured out what a delete button is, and they insist everything be available NOW so no offloading cache to O365 for us.

There's no freetard equivalent to Excel.
