Well, any window you open could give you mold if you're a faggot.
>>
>>108778880
everybody in germany has them, me included and I never had mold nor the people I know.
>>
They only work in central Europe which has a mild climate with low humidity summers. They make no sense in most places in the US where a third of the year it's too cold and another third of the year it's too humid to have windows open.

I wonder why we don't see this in Australia more.
We don't have the speccy folding windows, just sliding ones, but you'd expect in Victoria there would be evidence of it, it's moist most of the year but people leave windows open to vent, so warm air gets out with moist area.
Doesn't seem to happen much though.

Is Germany just very moldy by default?

I can't read this chart properly.

"The percentage of time spent at various humidity comfort levels categorized by dew point"

So in July if you spend 30% of time at a 45% dew point you will be "muggy"?? What the fuck does that even mean
>>
>>108778984
>I wonder why we don't see this in Australia more.
The shit grows on the walls due to warm air constantly and steadily escaping the apartment through the tilted window. It's not growing in the hot summer, it's growing in winter because outdoors on the side of the wall it's humid as fuck and the warm air from the window is creating the perfect spot for shit to grow on the facade.
>>
jesus and vishnu zutted mohammed and magic mold appeared
>>
>>108778997
No. It means here in Berlin, in the hottest most humid part of the year (Aug 6th) it will be muggy 3% of the time, and the rest of the time it will be comfortably humid, or dry.

The comfort ratings (dry, comfortable, muggy, oppressive, miserable) are calculated based on dew point, i.e. absolute humidity, the amount of moisture in the air, which is calculated considering the temperature and relative humidity.
>>
tilt the window
lower the condensation
receive no mould
>>
Looking into it, the mold is a uniquely german problem and Berlin is well known for 'schimmel'

Because they have more than one way of opening.

Including a superposition where you twist the handle up, tilt it just enough (depends on window model), then turn it 45 degrees to lock it in place, leaving only a small opening instead of a full tilt.

Thing is once you get used to AC it's hard to go back. I installed minisplits in my home for about 4k to cool the rooms and now I pretty much run it 5-6 months a year in the middle of france.
I'm thinking of getting rid of my gas heating as well and switch to a heat pump as well since it's not only 20years old but I'm shitting 3k of gas per year to heat up.

>>
>>108779205
>you don't need AC in europe, so not an issue
here
ftfy.
I hate these threads. Construction and homeowner practices in DE =/= those in USA. And in the USA, they vary.
Most of DE is more like Seattle than Miami. In the PNW you can open your windows at night in summer and cool off the house. There are attic fans specifically for that use case. In S FL, opening the windows at night would heat *and* humidify the house.
When I moved from PNW to S VA I noticed it was 72F outside and 78F in my AC'd apartment at night, so I shut off the AC and opened the windows. The apartment cooled, but got more and more uncomfortable, as the 72F, 100pct humidity outside air came in. Learned my lesson, coming from a dry climate to a wet one.

>>108778880
Warm, stinky, farty, sweaty air rises and having an exit, vent point like that picrel is ideal for smelly situations. If you reverse the window, cold air enters but the stinky air is left lingering at the ceiling. It might get cooled and mixed with fresh air but it doesn't just escape like in picrel.

The molecules attach themselves to surfaces and go through a fading process. UV and the ozone from the fresh air will neutralise most of them over time.

An air conditioner has the compressor and condenser outside i.e. in the ambient air.

Your shitty dehumidifier has to pump all the condensed water up and away (extra heat) as well as the own heat from its compressor. This causes a vacuum which ends up sucking ambient/outside air back into the room and entirely defeats the point.

Your dehumidifier may function as an air conditioner in your mind, but it is not one. Euros are fucking pathetic.

im a window specialist for a contractor supplier in the US and i work with almost every window manufacturer in my region

we dont have these in the US because of egress code making it difficult to get them compliant with egress limitations, especially since they have external screens as opposed to casement and awning windows which have internal screens and egress point hinges for a larger openable area
these tilt turns have a hinge layout that means theyre only an egress opening in their casement orientation and the positioning of the hinges in the casement orientation makes their openable area smaller than a traditional casement

you cant have a twin tilt turn which means some combination style windows are out of the question so people just go twin casement feature wise for that visual design

and then the real kicker, americans just like hung windows, and they offer pretty much the same benefits anyway
>>
>>108780614

I do that but with plywood.
Works well enough.

I raise my mobile AC unit to window level to minimize the length of the hose to about 10cm.
The fully opened window just sits next to the AC unit so it's not really an issue and being inside means it can't get damages by wind.
I clamp the plywood onto the window frame and leave it for weeks on end without issues.

The only real downside is not being able to look through the window while the AC is installed.
I guess clear Plexiglas would be better than plywood but also more expensive and harder to work with.

Even in Europe devices with a normal power plug are limited to 2400W.
Our circuits can typically handle 3600W but like you said you don't want a single device to use all of that.

I suspect the "3600W" was either the cooling power or an instruction to only use extension cords and power strips rated for the full 3600W.
Many cheaper power strips are only rated for 2500W.

Also they look ugly af hanging off of buildings

I'm always amazed the problems euros hallucinate looking at stick houses. Wind tolerance is only a question of how well you can hold onto the roof and how strong are your windows. OSB glue will withstand a lot more lateral force than mortar.

In the balkans, there aren't even any of those ungodly weather conditions that amerisharts have to put up with. I'd absolutely take an american cardboard house that's more affordable and faster to build over a 70-year-old balkan brick castle that hasn't even been properly maintained (because everyone is poor).

That's retarded and never happened.
And if you REALLY need, you can program the inverter to disconnect from the grid.

I think mine might have the same problem.
>>
>>108785653
Are we pretending the average american had AC in the 60s?
>>
>>108788404
Negative electricity prices happen but only apply to thermal power plants. Their turbines can't simply stop spinning so they rather pay somebody to take their electricity than risk damages.
>>
>>108788404
>>108788430
I don't know what world you're living in but negative spot electricity prices happen all the time in Europe. On May 1st the spot electricity price was -500€/MWh. In my current contract I get sometimes notified that my electricity is free for a couple hours (usually 11AM-4PM in the weekend when there is a lot of sun and some wind) because the utility company is that desperate to get rid of it.
>>
>>108788389
You don't let the inverter send the generated electricity into the grid. Dumbo.

>Don't know any other language that has a word for this autism
There's literally nothing autistic about airing your apartment the correct way.
All that "stoßlüften" does is causing the warm, humid and used up air to QUICKLY (like 5 to 10 mins with windows completely open on opposite sides) leave your apartment and get replaced with fresh air from outside. This works the best the higher the temperature delta of inside vs outside since the warm old air moves way quicker and takes humidity with it.
The advantage of this is fresh air inside WITHOUT having cooled down your walls and furniture which means the room will get back to temperature real quick with minimal energy loss.

If you just keep your windows open a bit (like with that tilting shit) all you do is create a constant light draft that keeps flushing heat energy from your apartment to outside while also causing all the humidity from outdoors to come inside. The air may be relatively good quality constantly (if your walls aren't moldy already) with no effort but you pay for this with basically throwing money out the window through essentially heating BOTH the air inside and outside of your apartment. On top of this there's a big chance of condensation near the window area inside and on the outside so mold may easily grow there as mentioned by others here.
It's idiotic when the most BASIC common sense is sold as autism here.

couldn't you just generate bitcoin then

>>108788655
Why? My ventilation system keeps the air fresh without intervention. My co2 levels are always well below 1000.
You do have this right?
>>
>>108778962
probably high humidity inside
>>
>>108788806
Stoßlüften seems more energetically sound. Those vents and fans also aren't gonna clean and replace themselves, is that not intervention?
>>
>>108788806
Anon, our houses are often over 100 years old and our climate has been more than manageable up until recently. ACs and really elaborate room ventilation systems like that were not needed since airing a couple times a day using windows just did the job just fine.
>>
>>108785328

>>
What's the benefit of tilt over just opening up or out? I think with tilt you get less airflow and it makes it easier for water to get in if you're window is open during the rain I would also be paranoid about some mechanism failing and the window falling and breaking.
>>
>>108788420
Not most, but they sold enough window units in the 60s and 70s to enshrine the format for 50 years, while 99.99% of yuros had no AC of any description.

i truly do not understand this thread
are there places where the temperature is just perfect for mold to grow wherever warm air spills out? how would a tilting window be different than a sliding one for growing mold? are people there just never supposed to open a window?
>>
>>108789457
>how would a tilting window be different than a sliding one for growing mold?
Technically it's just about warm air constantly coming out of the window creating an area above the window that is perfect for algae and mold to grow so the window technology shouldn't matter too much. HOWEVER I guess it's more common on those tilt windows because if you look closer you'll realize the tilting creates a big gap right at the top so warm humid air can escape there and then snake upwards along the wall. In that area it's the most humid and WARM. Both aspects that aid in that stuff growing there.

Buying ASIC mining hardware and then only running it only ~500 hours a year when electricity prices are negative means you buy equipment that sits idle 95% of the time. This is not profitable

>This causes a vacuum which ends up sucking ambient/outside air
that's the point - the outside (colder) air enters the room, old air (warmer) rises and gets pushed through vents in the kitchen etc. It's just how air flow works. You let the physics work, you don't need to artificially do dog knows what.
>>
>>108790480
They can last 100 years if you take care of them, but really just buy more sticks and mud and plop them down on the same foundation. Shit's cheap. There's no use case for having the exact same walls for 50 years on a residential building.

Mold exists period. There are different types of spores all around us at all times. Simply by being a retard, you give it ideal conditions in where it can create growths on walls and such.
Its entirely a skill issue.
>>
>>108790865
They're not going to take care of them.
We also have apartment buildings built out of bricks, which are also not maintained properly. They're massive but fucking old.
Commieblock apartments go for a premium now because they're less old, better maintained (more residents),with actually good interior design.
Most new apartment buildings are built out of bricks too (modern lightweight soibricks), which is fucking retarded.
