I'm a person who works a full-time job and uses the PC to game and do a tiny bit of creative stuff. I have been using fedora and previously mint for a long time now and have been considering swapping to Void for the lack of systemd. Is this really worth it? I find people arguing about it but can't find a definitive answer or come to it myself. The age verification BS seems to be the best reason to jump shit now.>Inb4 lgbt people this and thatIf you care or think about these people consistently you're a faggot and should kill yourself, full stop. I don't care about that or the gay ass BLM stuff. This is my computer not my little faggot ass flag.
>>108779922after the founder xtraeme died of covid the distro was taken over by troons so I would avoid at all cost. Use Artix if you want a good systemd free distro

>>108779922It all comes down to convenience vs freedom. Do you value your freedom more than convenience? At the end of the day runit doesn't grant you any speed improvement or anything like that, other than it's a really simple system.I've been running it for like 2 years now and I'm pretty happy with it. You can ask me questions if you'd like.
>>108779922>This is my computer not my little faggot ass flag. Why are you being a schizo about systemd then? It's not like switching to something without it would save you from the age verification boogeyman in the long run if anything actually happened, which still hasn't yet btw.
>>108779922Depends. Do you love black people? Do you bow down to them and apologize to them for your white supremacy? Do you wash their feet? If you answered all of these positively then Void is the right distribution for you.
>>108779922Same use cases, same motivation and same background (minus Mint). Void is a pretty straightforward distro. runit is very simple. xbps is easy to get used to. void-installer is great. If you have an IQ over 90 you don't need to worry about setting things up. Install the XFCE version if you really need the handholding.
>>108779922Void is best if you like simplicity and having a solid system for compiling your own software while also having a good amount of stuff in the repos + void-packages and being able to use deb packages. So it's pretty good. I heard one anon have issues with constistent frame rates in Void while gaming and an anon helped them out. I think it had a lot of potential and is quite viable. If you don't like systemd and don't want a protest distro or Gentoo then it's your best bet. Devuan is nice, but their installer is fucked and it feels/looks retro out of the box. Artix I haven't tried, but ai might because I want to try out s6. Alpine is nice and has good software availability in the testing repo, but it is very minimalistic (busybox) and uses musl (some stuff may not run on it). Gentoo is gentoo so if you want gentoo you download gentoo. Everything else is small and will be less convenient then Void. Void being able to use deb packages is a very nice hack desu.
>>108780268>implying 99% of Linux distros aren't equally as cuckedAt least Void is less centralized. If Artix ever becomes cucked you'll just run to the next fork of a fork of a fork rather than trying to make anything better because you are a coward at heart.
>>108779922It actually works really well. It's stable as hell however you will have to get a bit manual to set it all up. Once you're done its fast and responsive. Been using it for a while now and havent had a single issue with it. The documentation isn't the best but I used ChatGPT to help some of the more specialized things I needed and it was fine. The community is the nicest I have dealt with too. I've used a ton of distros over the decades... And Void is by far the best indie I have used to date. I did have a bit of struggle with sound. But that was my fault trying to pipewire to work on runit. Pulse audio works just fine.Of you really want to try it, install on a VM and mess with it first.
>>108779922It just works. Been using it for years as my main OS on laptops and desktops. Never had any problems.
>>108779922Never tried, i only use guix now. Its got it all.
