Arch + KDE is the future of Linux. Debian will be the first of the Big Three to fall. That was always the case, but electing a jeet as project lead accelerated its downfall.

It's barely surviving as it is. You can now run Arch or Fedora and have a nice stable install, and if anything does fuck up it's easily fixable with btrfs and limine. Debian is outdated and shit and pointless.

Funnily enough, I'm happily running Debian after distrohopping away from Arch and Fedora.

There are other ways to do disaster recovery, and without bloating your ESP to 8GB. Also, btrfs isn't great for all systems, especially resource-constrained ones.

CachyOS claims to have fixed the dirtyfrag exploit with their new kernels but i am not sure if i should trust them on that.

I did notice that i could use 1GiB less ram in stressapptest when i tested their custom kernel. I did not observe any performance improvement when it came to memory read/write/latency

I am pretty sure there is no difference in that regard but it will take a long time for those issues to materialize into actual problems for users.

But it's not like there is any particularly great option to switch to. Some people might switch over to opensuse tumbleweed or fedora (or something based on it).

CachyOS have a repository, flatpak, aur and appimage manager(Shelly). I think normies at least should know what they want to search to install. They will know when to update their stuff and the system have btrfs snapshot enabled by default if you make your partition like that so every program that you uninstall and install will make a snapshot that you can access from boot. I think it's very hard to do something wrong.
>>
>>108788457

Those 50 troons maintaining Arch are still white guys, except they have advanced autism, hence the troonery. So, it's 50 ultra-autistic white guys vs 4 white guys. Arch wins.
>>
>>108784947
can confirm, as much as i liked debian's package stability when it was an upside i did suffer from their shitty software stack and kernel. it used more memory, performed worse and had way more crashes and quirks than artix, which is what i daily today. i've also never liked their no blobs in installer policy because on modern machines it just makes life harder. most bad crashes on linux are caused by debian/ubuntu's retarded meddling on packages
>>
arch is very simple and it has no fluff or gimmicks, its just the initial hurdle of having to read which scares people but once you understand the basics its actually not difficult at all. I don't even have timeshift or btrfs snapshots and I have never had an issue that wasn't my fault and couldn't be fixed, worst case scenario I could just chroot into my install from a live USB and fix it. everyone should use arch it has every software ever and the best package maintainers and you never have to dread major release updates ruining everything
>>

>>

>>
>>108788911
I already have Arch but I'm considering Debian, it's really cool that it's frozen so I can have a clean installation and not be an updooter
>>
>>108788850

The initial hurdle has been minimized via archinstall and distros based on arch typically having easy to use installers.

That's why we see people on the arch linux subreddit trying to use apt-get to install stuff.

That's fine as long as people quickly learn what they need to learn (at least basic security measures) but it's not idiot proof enough to work as an operating system for the typical grandma.
>>
>>108785368

Cachy has a steamdeck image and is also quite good. Not so good on other devices yet but that is because valve hasn't released their stable builds yet.

No. The fact that she was even chosen shows how little people care about the project. At least with Satya Nadella you can argue that he’s made ‘line go up’ and brought MS gigabux. This jeetess is just horrible on any metric. Ubuntu needs a divorce.

Why does everyone keep calling Linux shit and other absolutely gay nerd shit 'insane' now? I saw a thumbnail for a video where a guy was trying the newest version of some distro or other, the text on it was 'this is INSANE'

Why would one even want their distro to be INSANE? An OS should basically be as out of your way as possible, INSANE is the last thing I want my OS to be. There's no way it was anything more than a few inconsequential tweaks, like every new version of every distro in history. The brainrot these days is INSANE.

Using something like ubuntu does not in any way reduce the need to update your system. It just means that your system is outdated no matter what (you can keep some stuff up do date by relying on snaps, flatpaks and appimages but that's inferior to up to date native packages).

I've only dabbled in linux before but I've been using cachy for about 6 months now and it's fine. Perfectly usable, installing certain things outside the repo was a little annoying, but mostly solvable with a little googling.

It's useful to have a windows install to contain the "kernel level anticheat" rootkits and other shady closed sourced software. You might want to disconnect your linux drives when doing so do to prevent it from being infected while you use windows. You also have to hope your motherboard doesn't have insecure bios/eufi that let malware infect it.
>>
>>108791384

Managing an Arch Linux (based) distributions isn't anywhere close to as difficult as people make it out to be. We do see a lot of people do fine starting with an arch-based distro and if anything those people are doing better.

Seems like it's just a question of time before arch-based distros has over 75% in a steam/proton survey (for linux).
