Hey, guys. I know this is a weird thing to ask, but I'm curious of how people go about collecting nsfw stuff for recreational use (fapping). I'll tell you what I do and maybe someone can tell me how they do things and maybe what I can improve.Currently, when I download any hentai, I put it into specific folders based on whether it's part of a series or some category, with majority just dumped into folders i call "random." Whenever the folder gets over 1K files, I create a new folder with an increasing name. i.e. Random2, Random3...I store these all on my main desktop on my largest 4TB HDD. I have a server where I also store said porn. So whenever every now and again, I'll spin up rsync or freefilesync (preferred) to update my server files. The good thing about freefilesync is that it shows a log of all the files that got updated. Why is this important? Because of the next step.I have a samsung tablet that I do all my browser of my hentai on. It's mobile and lets me be anywhere, mostly my bed. Whenever I do a sync, I use the log to copy files from my server (using the Xplore app), to my tablet's Mini sd card. I select which folders got updated. I do it this way because there's files I dont want to upload anyway (such as large video folders which I keep on my server to consume from the xplore app).Lately, I've been wondering if this is really the best I can do. I have also had times where I wondered if I should buy a windows laptop because VLC absolutely sucks on samsung where videos freeze a lot, and there's always missing codecs. So getting a windows tablet would at least let me circumvent that. At the same time, it's surprising how little support there is for media browsing. I guess you could use stuff like Honeyview and other media browsers, but for some reason they are never as "automated" as the samsung apps like the Gallery app, which Ive yet to find any equivalent on Windows. So thats my current workflow in my hentai collecting.
>>108787355>I have a server where I also store said porn.Anon, install Stash on your server. If you're at all familiar with Plex/Jellyfin/etc it's basically that, but geared towards serving the contents of your /xxx directory instead of film & TV - no syncing required.>https://stashapp.cc>https://github.com/stashapp/stash
>>108787529I have stash. Wait, you can automatically have it pick up your xxx directory? But stash said that they deliberately have to make a new directory to store the contents on. And don't get me started on all the tagging Ive had to do so far.
>>108787355I cram them into a drive and then forget about them and then the files decay and I feel sad
>>108787529oh sorry, I was thinking of suzubooruI have tried stash before, but something about it made me drop it. I cant remember what it was
>>108787542I was going to say, lol. If, like me, you throw just about everything into a generic /xxx with a couple of extras for niche interests, you'll probably need to do a little gardening ... if you've a brain that can think wikipedially it'll help. For example - for rule34 stuff, set up an artist in your collection as a 'studio' and hit 'auto tag', or set up a common character as a 'performer' and hit 'auto tag'.There's also options like picrel that'll make galleries out of the stuff in /doujins, that'll be a big help - and then you can start saving filters (like 'a random selection of all my images in /xxx', or 'all my videos featuring Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor, by most recent') and displaying them on the main page. You can go as deep or as shallow as you like, it's all good.
>>108787589My categories are set up by series more than anything. And sometimes a specific fetish. I dont care for artists cause I use the sadpanda app I have that connects directly to my saved favorites anyway of doujin. So what would it look like with that?
>>108787612A lot of it depends how you like to 'consume' the content. 'Galleries' are ultimately just directories - if you flip the 'create galleries from folders containing images' option and have Stash scan /xxx, it will generate a gallery for your DBZ stuff, Digimon, Disney etc, so you can view stuff by 'theme' that way if you want.
...and you could then hop into the Images tab, and apply a filter to bring up everything in gallery X, Y and Z, sorted by random (or star rating, or recently added...), as I've done here with my anthro and human content. You can save these filters and come back to them later as well, or pin them to Stash's homepage.
>>108787729okay neat
This is why I like to use galleries in Stash: similar to a booru, you can link performers and tags and source URLs and so on, so with a little thought and a little gardening, you can jump through your collection.
>>108787760Awesome I got things set up. Let's try that filter option now
>>108787760Which do I run?
>>108787823'Scene covers' are like Youtube thumbnails for fap.mp4, that's fine to leave on. Don't bother with the others just yet - they're for generating the previews of what's inside fap.mp4, and hunting for duplicates, so that'll take a while. Best to fiddle with these if + when you're settled in.'Scan' will search everything in the folders you've added to Stash. Selective scan is for if you've added just one or two images to a subfolder.
(incidentally, this is how identical duplicate files appear in Stash - they're bunched together and treated as a single 'thing', and it'll tell you where each of the duplicates are, so you can either keep them or delete them. This is also why I like it when r34 sites keep tags in filenames, for the 'Auto tag' feature)

>>108788214That would have been helpful to have
Now I wait.
>>108787355>>108787529I use stash for porn and jellyfin for anime/hentai
I keep all my content on a 2 TB veracrypt encrypted external ssd. My desktop is right next to my bed, and when I want to enjoy said content I navigate to the appropriate folder and open it in VLC. I don't know what setup I'd need beyond that. I've got decent folder organization I guess.
>>108788301I use plex for anime, but why not use Stash for hentai too?
>>108788322Look into tablets and you'll instantly improve your situation. I use to do like you and it was awkward af.Hilarious enough what prompted me to go to tablets was the Nintendo Wii U. I use to use it for browsing hentai actually from my bed or anywhere I wanted in the house.
>>108788364Tablets are alright if you're on your back jacking it with your hand, but if you've got a sex doll or an onahip or any toy that has you positioned on your hands and knees or your belly... the screen at the edge of the bed is actually the opposite of awkward.
>>108787355>Currently, when I download any hentai, I put it into specific folders based on whether it's part of a series or some category, with majority just dumped into folders i call "random." Whenever the folder gets over 1K files, I create a new folder with an increasing name. i.e. Random2, Random3...Jesus christ. You know it doesn't cost you anything to make more folders to organize stuff, right? You can even give those folders descriptive names to help with that.
>>108787355maybe you take this shit way too seriously.
I just save art I like in folders based on series it's from. Nested inside other folders based on medium (is it from games, or anime, etc.). Someday I'll look into that Hydrus shit and organize by tags instead, but it is an impenetrable wall to learn.
I have like 2tb of porn I also want to tag and sort, and I don't know where to startI also need a tagging solution for non porn images, where I really want to actually embed metadata about the image content within each file, ideally via a tool where I can just right click a file in a folder viewer, hit "edit/view tags" and type shit in>>108787529>>108787589>>108787612>>108787729How does the tagging work? Does it store it in a centralized file or does it embed the tags as metadata into each image individually? Does it have a way to hook into saucenao and shit to auto generate tags based on rule 34, gelbooru etc uploads? Can I use this if I don't into command line tools and exclusively use windows and save everything to an external HDD? How does this compare to Hydrus?
>>108788642Not that guy, but I think I might give a few good thoughts on how to start organizing folders organically. In software engineering, there's a principle of "3 strikes and then you reflector". You don't start by abstracting, but when you find a pattern gets repeated enough, you find a way to abstract it. Similarly with folder organization, you may not start by knowing how different files should be organized, but when you see a bunch of related files or folders in some folder, you make a new folder and copy them into it.So if I have a bunch of images of Anya in my unsorted folder, I create an Anya folder. When I then see folders for Anya, for Kanna, for Klee, and so on, I might put those folders into a loli folder. And then when that has too many folders, I might split it into an anime loli characters folder and a game loli characters folder. Create the higher level divisions when and only when they are needed.
>>108790792The problem is getting the patience to go through all your images to reorganize them.
>>108787355Holy shit bro let me enlighten you.Lanraragi - host your own ehentaiHydrus network - let's you aggregate boorus into your own offline one (((cloudflare))) is blocking more and more in preparation for digital ID. Also downloaders arent guaranteed to work. (Example gelbooru one ignores checkbox content)Also practice proper 3-2-1 backups
Prefer to use stash for videos and lanraragi for hentai manga. But I store ai art in stash it's weird.
>>108791147>lanraragiSo you just download zipped files of doujin from places like sadpanda and store them on the server for the app to consume?
>>108791157yeah for the most part, I archive them into cbz if you want to be exact.
>>108787355what does everyone use for tagging? I'm in the market for organizing everything again but i always get analysis paralysis. theres a ton of options now like femboy, panoptikon, immitch, and even random ass github projects. Panoptikon is maybe the most featured but getting it working was a metric pain in the ass and even then the results where surprisingly not great, though I hear the play now is models which are keyed against image hallucination.
>>108791073out of all the tagging software I used hydrus is easily the worst, requiring the most busywork I have ever seen as most images wont get tagged. easily 95% of my images in the set remained untagged.basically unusable and slow besides.
Hydrus a shit I spend more time trying to sync some tag repo than actual tagging.
>>108789792Stash works in pretty much the same way as Plex or Jellyfin: you point it to where your stuff is stored, and anything in that directory or directories is added to your Stash library. The tags live in a SQLite database in Stash's config directory. So, the actual files on disk aren't molested in any way.>How does the tagging work?I've created a 'studio' in Stash called 'Alcor', along with a few aliases that this artist uses. When I hit 'Auto Tag', Stash will comb through its database: any filenames containing 'alcor' or an alias will then be tagged so it appears in the artist's images; and any directory names containing 'alcor' (for example, the '[artist] doujin title' template favoured by sadpanda) will appear under the artist's galleries.>I also need a tagging solution for non porn imagesStash has a SFW mode, if you can believe it. It's completely identical functionality-wise, it just hides a few porn-specific tags and renames others (like 'orgasm counter' becomes 'like counter').
Depending on what you're collecting, you could check out stash's discord and see if there's a relevant stashbox setup.https://github.com/stashapp/StashDB-DocsOr look at their scrapershttps://github.com/stashapp/CommunityScrapers
For 'performers' it's the same process ... which, again, is why having details in filenames is a big help, otherwise, it's unavoidable that you're going to have to do a little gardening with your collection.
>>108791272Problem with that is, it means exposing your Stash instance to the internet, surrendering your own metadata preferences in favour of someone else's, and more practically, the various scrapers and stashboxes out there are built for normie-ish porn ... which is fine if you're a JAV connoisseur or your stuff comes direct from BangBros or NaughtyAmerica or whatever; but for anything outside those lines, like rule34 content or just the random shit you've saved from this website over the years, it's not going to work out.

>>108799625AI would be the only thing close. otherwise, you would get something like hydrus and use an image search scraper to look for the same image on boorus to do auto tagging.
I used to host stash when I was serious about the hobby. Everything was sorted by studio, with a separate section for jav and amateur stuff. It saw much more use than jellyfin desu. As for doujins I had a script to sort them by circle to be picked up by lanraragi. Imagesets were on hydrus or stash depending on the content.
