Bambulab took down a fork that can send print to bambu labs servers. Although bambu studio is open source, the code to access their server was part of a closed source plugin.
>>108789137and?
>>108789174and he just threw $10k down the drain and is begging his viewer to donate money for the cause on an obviously losing battle because any court will see this will rule in bambulab's favor
well, did they use that plugin or did they reverse engineer the API and write a new one?
>>108789137>the code to access their server was part of a closed source plugin.Yes which is a violation of the AGPL license.
>>108789626It isn't though.
>>108789137I don't get it either and I refuse to understand why people don't get itBambu legit fucked up with the security of printers, it's not inherently dangerous but the old model was basically if you had access to the account the printer was on, you had full control and could issue arbitrary commands/gcode from anywhereBambu then created a shim to make sure commands and gcode could only come from an application that is actually sending actual gcode to print something. The entire reason for this is because bambu is liable if someone manages to burn a printer down in someone's house or business if an account is ever compromised which can happen even outside of Bambu's control since you can sign in with Google and others.
>>108789756it is. the work is combined and is required for major (or all in some cases) functionality. it's a "plugin" only insofar as it is built on top of the AGPL code - which means it must comply.
>>108789756>>108789831Under what circumstances would any arbitrary program be allowed to interact with Bambu servers in the first place?
>>108789137Bros, what is to prevent bambu from fingerprinting your prints? Every 2d printer already does this with little yellow dots. They can literally engrave a serial number on the inside of your prints and you wouldr have no way of knowing.
>>108789831>the work is combined and is required for major functionalityNot when the plugin is absent, it isn't. checkmate, freetards.
>>108789137Why did he quit fixing macbooks? Upgrading their ram snd storage is all the rage now. Plenty of chinks still doing repairs. GPU repairs are all the rage with those two channels. Why didn't he pivot? I miss comfy board streams. I miss comfy e-bike rides across the Brooklyn bridge. Take me back bros.
If I wanted to get into 3D printing, but I refuse to give money to Bambu, be it them not letting me use the product I paid for offline because it needs to continuously phone home and it'll brick itself if it hasn't phoned back home after some time, or this shit, what should I be looking at? Creality?
>>108789137Sounds like the hacky solution is to develop an emulation of the bamboo servers that's self hostable and something point the plugin in that direction.
>>108791166>be it them not letting me use the product I paid for offline because it needs to continuously phone home and it'll brick itself if it hasn't phoned back home after some timeAre you retarded or a shill?
>>108789968>Upgrading their ram snd storage is all the rage now. Plenty of chinks still doing repairs. GPU repairs are all the rage with those two channels.Too hard and expensive. No one does offers this in the west, It's being done only experimentally.Anyone and especially rossman could see it's over for 3rd party repair and especially upgrading. Consider what they used to do, a lot of straight replacements, for example they could get genuine screens for less than $50 and sell it for $200+ without soldering. And minor component replacements, $1 in parts, 0.5-1h of medium difficulty soldering, could be sold for $200+.Now they can't get parts to do the easy repairs, and it's just a matter of time until everything is serialized so you can't replace them anyway.
He needs to reign in his "holier than thou" crap a bit - it's so off-putting that even if I mostly agree in his message I can't stand watching him getting another hissy-fit in public. I know, he's rage-baiting as the algo tells him to do so but I think he's hurting the quality of his audience to gain in quantity. Him getting upset having a fit makes him come off quite zesty, which might not help his cause.
>>108789849Under any circumstance. When you expose shit to the internet the only thing the server knows is the data stream coming it's way, you never know what program it's coming from
>>108791255Bambu Lab Authorization Control System. They made it so that I cannot use my own 3D printer over LAN unless I let it phone home to make sure I don't do anything they don't approve of. And I don't care that the SD card bypasses it all, it's the type of anti-consumer shit that blacklists the entire company for me.My Brother printer is completely blocked off of the web, never tries to ping home and prints over network without a fuss. (You) must be retarded or a shill if you think that an expensive 3D printer having this type of bullshit is a non-issue.
>>108791791>not letting me use the product I paid for offline>And I don't care that the SD card bypasses it allretard
>>108791823Paid Bambu Labs shill, kill yourself

>>108789968He hated macs.
>>108791269Meh. All excuses. Raise prices. Target direct chink part sources by traveling to chyyNA. He just wanted to retire and become a jewtube commentator. Absolute pussy.
>>108789137>okay i did take a shit on your doorstep but you agreed to a tos that let me do it, why are tou so mad?fuck bambuniggers and fuck yourossman might be a youtube grifter but he’s a real hood nigga
>>108791823Not related to the point you are making, but having to eject and move an microSD card between the printer and your computer is really tedious, especially when you need to do it multiple times. Also I'm sure that slot on the printer is probably only rated for like 1000 ejections before the latching mechanism fails.
>>108793634bro you’re wifi-enabled sd card?
>>108791485people like you fail to understand the time period you are living through
>>108789896If a 3D printer could print something with such a high degree of precision that it couldn't be seen with the human eye, it would be better than every 3D printer available today, including resin printers. Also, you could just sand the model all over, and the serial is gone if it's so small.
>>108791851You didn't address his point at all though. Moving the SD card around is a pain that is there for no legitimate reason. He pointed that out, and you said nothing to reject it.
>>108794715>contrarian is being a contrarianwhoa
>>108794715Holy shit, I know /g/ is full of jeets now, but come on now. That retard's initial post was this: >>108791166, not mentioning SD cards at all, just straight up being disingenuous.

>>108789137Either you didn't watch the video, or you're willingly misrepresenting the incident.Either way you're fucking stupid. Anyone with half a brain that isn't high on corporate farts can see that what bambu is doing is blatantly illegal, malicious, and anti-consumer.
