Yup, they really don't want that battery draining power without somebody being present. I would say its the battery thats their concern. They don't give a fuck if the cpu degrades itself or any other part fails to heat damage. They just hate the fact that there's a battery in their products to begin with. Apple is the most scrupulous company around so they most certainly know whats at stake if a bunch of batteries start spontaneously combusting without supervision. Bricking your system on the other hand just means you'll turn around and buy another apple product.

Get off the stims while you still can. Was on 30mg dextroamphetamine instant-release twice-daily for five years. Finally quit this past December, but my dopamine receptors are still totally shot five months on.

Anyway, unsolicited advice aside, what's this do that Amphetamine (if this still exists) and KeepingYouAwake don't do? I used to use the former for years, and I know the latter is open-sores.

Modafinil is very different than Amphetamines, it doesn't make you zoom zoom, and at low doses is barely even noticeable. Getting good sleep remains what's most important.

I haven't taken moda/armodafinil since like 2017, so it's hard for me to remember the experience, but yeah, while I know they aren't in the same class at all, doesn't it also act as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor?
I'd just be very surprised if, after several years of consistent use, it didn't tend to cause problems with tolerance and dependence.

Amphetamine was the first app I tried when I was evaluating my options before making something myself. With the following settings:

Allow display sleep: on
Allow system sleep when display is closed: off

It did prevent sleep when you close the lid, but it didn't turn the display off. I really wanted the display to turn off like normal (while still preventing sleep), which is what Modafinil does (also locks, so that when you reopen it opens to the lockscreen).

Now I made a couple posts on Reddit and I've gotten reports that this may be a bug because apparently it _is_ supposed to turn off the display when you close the lid with those settings. I've also had someone say Amphetamine indeed doesn't support this out of the box because it violates App Store policies, and so you need Amphetamine Enhancer. Not sure what the actual truth is.

I haven't tried KeepingYouAwake.

Yeah, you needed the "enhancer" add-on in the past for certain features, if you got amphetamine from the app store cuz of apple's policies. IIRC, the version that was distributed outside the store didn't have those limitations.
