they took this from you:>no 5,25" external slots in modern cases>no 12cm fans with 3 pin headersno way to attach 5,25" fan controller that takes in 3 pin header fans so you can individually set each fan in between 0 voltage and 12 voltage carefully finding out when it still rotates but produces least amount of noise
>>108790593You know you can still buy cases with 5.25" bays right.
You can choose your case... They still sell cases with drive bays. Or just use any of the millions they have already made. Also your 3 pin fans are inferior to the 4 pin options because yours don't adjust dynamically with load.
You are like a little baby, watch this.
>>108790647why would you word your assertion in such a way? you do understand you are implying that no 3 pin fans adjust dynamically with load, yeah? did you mean to imply that? because thats just false.
it's trivial to diy that kind of stuff these days
>>108790647>yours don't adjust dynamically with load.the fuck you think the knobs are for?
>>108790593Why exactly would you want to use one of those? You can do all that shit on modern mobos from the BIOS, you can even make custom fan curves that react to temperature instead of having a single fixed value. I think I still have one of those fan controllers from like 15+ years ago, but I do not understand why you'd ever want to use it rather than having properly working automatic control.
>>1087906734 pin fans are made for varying speed. The fourth wire allows the fan motor itself to adjust the speed instead of the motherboard. It is much more precise and consistent.
>>108790679They are for manual adjustment. With dynamic adjustments you can get your fans to spin to 100% when your CPU gets hot. It's great to handle cpu demand spikes.
>>108790734Why don't you just set your fan curves to max out when the CPU is past a certain threshold?Better yet, undervolt your CPU so it never reaches thermal throttle limits even under max loads. In 2026 you pay extra for a functionally silent powerful desktop.
>>108790704this will be all of us one day, you'll be a mentally calcified boomer who can't adapt to new and improved ways of doing things and you want computers to stay the same way forever.
>>108790721yes nonny, i know how pwm works. that is irrelevant to my post thougheverbedoitso. i demand you demonstrate an understanding of my point.
>>108790593my PowerMac could spin its fans up and down as it needed to so I didn’t have to fiddle with knobs myself and risk doing permanent heat damage to my computer if I didn’t twist a knob enough
thank god, that shit was awful
>>108790721>The fourth wire allows the fan motor itself to adjust the speed instead of the motherboard. What? The motherboard is still controlling the fan. The fouth wire just gives the motherboard more data. And 3 pin fans can adjust to load.
>>108790621yeah, for 70 USD when they costed 20 years ago, not paying that price for a sleeper mololith that just stands there
>>108790593>>108790647You can adjust voltage on 4pin fans and they will behave just like 3pin fans.Motherboard manufacturers on the other hand have been cutting cost and removing fan voltage regulators, so only premium $1000 boards can now adjust both 3pin and 4pin fans on the same headers. It used to be default on any board.
>>108792736the 4th wire sends rpm signal to fan, it's up to fan to interpret itsome fans are designed to safely spin down at specific low signalother fans are designed to keep rotating at minimal safe rpm even at 0% signalbut most cheap fans adjust linearly and choke at random low point requiring curve calibration to compensate for it
>>108790593I recommend FanControl, really great application, even works with Mainboards with gimped fan control and can basically do anything you'd want
>>108794272You can adjust any fan via PWM on the V+, too.
>>108790647>buy used case>similar price to a new case>missing parts and screws>can't completely clean/dust it>cigarette smoke if really unluckyNo.
>>108790593>bathes the room in blue lightyeah, I'm good, you can take this
