Now that vmware is free, is there even a reason to use virtualbox over vmware? What do you guys use and why?
>>108791033VirtualBox is free and open source software.VMware is still proprietary.Take a guess.
>>108791050/Thread
>>108791050>proprietary vs open source niggerbabblenot an argument
>>108791050VMWare worksVirtualBox is trashyou better take a guess
>>108791033neither
>>108791033you posted this before with some spic youtube thumbnail and were told qemu the answer hasnt changed
>>108791033Yeah im not logging in to download software they can go hang themselves from luster.
>>108791033I don't have to log in to download virtualboxseems like a pretty obvious choice
Vmware is bloated and installs a ton of annoying drovers/services.
>>108791458>>108793429You can download vmware straight from the update server.
>>108793893Does it really
I just use windows hypervisor on windows and kvm/libvirt on linuxanything else is just unnecessary bloat
>>108791033use neither because it's broadcom vs oracle aka shit vs shit try KVM
>>108791033thanks but I will stick to virtualsovl and windows 7
I want switchable native OSes without rebooting. Or something like WHDLoad but for x86.
Vmware is now owned by broadcom who is jewing out on licenses even worse than Oracle did with ex-Sun software like virtualbox
>>108791033asuming youre stuck in windows: vmware is better in every way, minus clipboard sharing working between host/guest on wayland
>>108791394What did you do to break virtualbox?
>>108794857On Windows why would you use anything other than just HyperV?On Linux KVM with vfio passthrough is the way to go.On OSX vmware fusion or parallels.
>>108791033VirtualBox seems easier in my experience, especially if I need to share something from the guest to the host.
>>108791033>vmware>virtualboxhave you considered joining us in the 21st century?
>>108796062on macos utm or parallels.
>>108796120Even if you're using it for light browsing, UTM lacked performance for me compared to Parallels and VMware Fusion.
>>108796257it depends on what you need. i'd never use vmware. parallels is what most people want unless they're playing games.
>>108796314>paying for free softwaresevere mental illness, do get vaxxed
>>108796362parallels isn't free. i imagine you're confused and are thinking about the relationship between crossover and wine.
>>108791033Vmware ESX is free again. Navigating whorecom's website to find the download is an iq test to see if you're not retarded and capable of solving problems. Hock owns all you faggots.
>>108791425this. qemu just werks.
>>108796635Not when you are on a window host
>>108791442Take your meds.
QEMU/KVM my autistically optimized belovedvmware desktop is dogshit the only good products they make are shit like esxivirtualbox is just embarrassing
>>108791050VirtualBox is Oracle and if you remember Oracle's reign of terror in the 1990-2000's, you know why to avoid it.
For me, it's bhyve.
>>108796835>winblowswho cares?
>>108791033Virtualbox has low performance compared to Vmware. Used Virtualbox for 7 years and moved on the Vmware.
>>108796062because vmware has functioning opengl 4.3 guest drivers
>>108793893so is virtualbox on windows
>>108796120utm is a shitty slow and broken qemu fork, just use native qemu. parallels is totally enshitified now just run some benchmark in a vm and vmware usually 20-30% faster than nu-parallels.on mac use native qemu or vmware, avoid parallels.
Don't forget that oracle will send lawyers after your ass to sue you if they find out that you are using virtualbox with the addons for any commercial work no matter how small it is.
>>108791033virt-manager, because I'm on Linux and it's much better than the other options
>>108798127How would they find out?
Qemu's gui is shitty and broken. It doesn't even say Next on the next button, it says Forward.
>>108798179Telemetry
>>108791033So I have tons of experience with KVM/QEMU and a good amount with Virtualbox, but none with VMware. If I'm applying to devops/linux admin jobs, will this affect me? I looked at a few videos and VMware seems pretty close to Virtualbox functionality and UI wise.
QEMU FTW
>>108798185erm ackchually that's virt-manager you're talking about, QEMU doesn't have a GUI because it's strictly a cli program like that whole stack
ackchually its called QEMU KVM/Virt Manager
>>108798377>>108791033>>108796362>>108794721vmware workstation version 12 was still good and its better than any version of virtual boxit can run even windows 10 altough only as a BIOS install modewindows 11 doesnt work
>>108791033kvm qemu using virtman
>>108797430>Oracle's reign of terror in the 1990-2000'sqrd?
>>108798200Source? Virtualbox is open source.
I use VMs to cross-compile some code without shitting up my machine with Visual Studio and Virtualbox is just flat out BAD, the I/O performance is terrible, so much so that a simple 5 minute compile in VMWare Workstation takes over 30 minutes in VBox. I will never use that shit again, fuck them.
