The year is 2026
People are graduating compsci without ever owning a real computer
>>
>>108792612

The iPad Pro is pretty nice as an auxiliary device.
>>
>>108792612
Can you compile stuff on that? If so I don't mind

why do yuros and indians hate apple so much bros? The MBP is great
>>

>without ever owning a real computer
iPads and Android tablets are as much real computers as smartphones, consoles and smartTVs are
>>
>>108792827
I'm German and have a macbook
>>
>>108793021
so not at all?
>>
>>108793086
All those devices are capable of running "Linux" which I assume is the requirement for you to be considered a real computer so you're either retarding or your excluding elitism is a self own to someone who's computer literate
>>
>>108793103
Ok nigger, come to class and follow the lecturer on your PS5
>>
Back to the 60's
>>
>>108793113
You can't follow the lecturer on your linux desktop but you can on your iPhone & iPad
>>
>>108792612
Having a degree is just a form of classism which is why almost nobody cares about it anymore besides people with ego issues. trades? Unions gate keep those fields not colleges. Computers? You will get further ahead being on Github working on projects. Engineering? Yes colleges, but it has to be ABET, not just any college and the degree needs to be super general, even if the odd named degree has even more requirements. Sure you can get a non ABET degree, but you're essentially less than an engineer until you pass your engineering tests.
>>
>>108792695
only luddites are compiling code on a local machine. it's 2026.
>>
What's a computer?
>>
>>108792612
I want a tablet so bad, but I chose to buy a new phone instead since mine is from 2018. I'll just ask my family to get me a tablet for my birthday, which is in 8 months. fuck that's too long
>>
>>108792626
You don't need the pro.
>>108792827
Great for what, showing off your power point presentations? It has no use case. Unless you're a homeless person, you own a monitor and a PC/mac. Nobody in their right mind would get a laptop. Having a computer on your lap is bad for your back and eyesight and neck and so on.
It's literally causing you harm. Such a product should not exist.
>>108793021
So is your washing machine and a door bell.

>You don't need the pro.
Poorfag.
>>
>>108792626
iPad Pro + Windows Desktop is peak computing experience.
>>
>>108795233
If you can reason, you spend money on what you need, as little as possible for the best quality available. That's how trade works. It's the only way.
You don't need the pro to begin with, we're not even talking about quality or features per dollar ratio. You just don't need it in general, you will never use anything besides what is included in a regular one.
I don't know you, but can easily guess it right. Like 99,999% people don't need any product with that "pro" label on it.
>>
>>108792612
>without ever owning a real computer
Why would someone do this? It's time to cut it out with the libertarian fantasy that one-shotted previous generations, where every adult is expected to personally own what is essentially a business asset and use it in their everyday life.
>>
>>108795621
>That's how trade works. It's the only way.
Holy midwit, spare me these hot takes. Why do poor people offer unsolicited advice to the rich on how to spend money?
>>
>>108795789
Oh wait, you're actually rich? Like you're that productive guy?
Can you give me an advice? How do I become as rich and productive as you? Which Apple product do I buy to get that?
>>
>>108792612
it's not really needed for these securitards
>>
>>108795964
First stop with that tone. You come across as very annoying, insufferable even, which I can only assume is an outward display of an inherent inferiority complex.
>>
>>108792695
>compiling in 2026
wake up gramps, CS students are all just compiling in the cloud with Claude Code from the web
>>
>>108795999
Man I can only hope someday I'll become like you. I'll own an Apple device with a "pro" label on it. It's a true symbol of wealth and productivity. Clearly I cannot manage my finances without it. It only makes sense to get myself a laptop, does not matter if I own a house with a chair, table and a monitor on it or not, because... Because I'm gonna be on the move all the time, need a leptop, very productive, yeah.
Wanna see my power point presentation? Just a sec, let me hook up with that projector...
>>
>>108796070
This has to be a jeet, right? Absolutely mind broken individual.
>>
>>108792612
to be fair, people have been graduating compsci who know jack shit about computers for ages. I know a PhD who thought you could rename a .txt file to .png and it would be an image of the containing text - that's such a fundamental misunderstanding of many core concepts... Such a person should maybe dig dirt, not teach
>>

Once was a time I thought GUIs wasn't "real" computing.
>>
>>108796113
It's gonna be really funny when it becomes a possibility. Both ways really. OCR can be done even on those tablets easily, so there would be people who would convern a text to a picture and then back.
They will be right. You will be wrong.
And it will be incredibly hard for you to explain to them why things like that won't scale. They will do some vibe python code that does this like a million times and fail to see a problem with that.
That's how old hardcore system programmers see modern computer users.
>>
>>108796390
converting something and renaming something are different things. I've studied too, and I actually learned something about steganography (something the PhD guy probably forgot the second he took the test) I'm well aware that it's possible to craft a file that will show text as .txt and a png of the text if called .png, but I'm pretty damn sure that will never ever happen as a default
>>
>>108796407
The more people believe it should be like that, the higher the probability it will become a default.
And a company like Apple would probably do something like that without thinking twice about it.
But that's nothing. Imagine converting text to audio by just renaming. Technically also very simple and very fast. Same with audio file to text file. Someone will buy a fucking yacht after pushing these features and shoving them down the throats of apple users.
>>
> 2026
> be cs student
is there people still doing this shit? cs is dead.
>>
>>108792827
macbooks are fine since these run a UNIX like OS, actually a certified UNIX. even though it's not as powerful or flexible as linux it still beats shitdows when it comes to development power. my issue lies more within apple's gay userland, anti-repair tactics, expensive ewaste devices with soldered SSDs and motherboard death shenanigans.
>>
>>108792612
I absolutely despise keyboards like that. The only thing worse is typing on a touch screen
>>
>>108796492
...the standard unix like is linux. Being "certified unix" means nothing. Windows has built in linux virtualization support, it has better compatibility than macos.
>>
>>108792612
What's a computer? Sounds quaint

The Pro is too big, the Mini is perfect
Only time anyone's said that, I think
>>
>>108796696
Pro is perfect for reading PDFs and technical documentation.
>>
>>108796838
I read PDFs on the Mini but I have good eyes desu

>>108792612
It's much better to carry in a bag than a laptop, and can be used for a desktop like desk setup too with a monitor.
>>
>>108796482
Yeah and renaming the txt to .exe makes it a high fidelity photorealistic game? So any txt file would be tens of gigabytes big just in case somebody decides to rename it? Take your meds
>>
>>108792612
What makes this the most alarming issue with new compsci graduates? It seems peripheral at worst.
Oh wait forgot I'm on fourth chin where nobody ever makes a good faith post.
>>
>>108792612
Jeet postgrads in iT have never seen a ssd, hdd or nvme and have no idea what a dimm looks like or a sata cable is and have never seen a cpu . Jeets with cisco qualifications have never seen an actual cisco router or switch or a console cable.

Reality.

>>108793046
>I'm German and have a macbook

Does it urinate on you while you masturbate?
>>
>>108794795
find a boomer selling a galaxy FE tablet on facebook or nextdoor you can probably find one for $50
>>
>>108793167
>but you're essentially less than an engineer until you pass your engineering tests.
my 'professional engineer license' test was basically final exam questions from classes. Easier even cause it was graded generously.
Idk where you get these ideas. I guess we live in an era of fraud so you're looking for answers, but your answers are wrong.
>>
>>108793181
if you cant code in transistor then you arent a coder, you pawn someone elses creation off as your own.
>>
>>108793113
I am independently wealthy, you won't see me in class.
>>
>>108792612
i bought an ipad pro m5 with the apple pencil and its really neat desu
i’d switch from macbook entirely if it had a proper os, but ipados is too cucked
>>
>>108793167
>ABET
Only necessary if you're an American who wants to work for public works and/or MEP/utilities companies. I live in Brazil and I have no interest in working for any kind of utility companies.
>>
>>108792612
>compsci without ever owning a real computer
I had to bring my laptop to class so there was never a point in owning a "real computer"
>>
>>108792612
>more horsepower than an entire compsci department laptops put together from 2006
>not a real computer
what exactly is missing from an ipad for a compsci degree? have you actually studied at an uni in the last decade or so?
admittedly i’d still prefer a macbook but i dont think an ipad would be much worse
>>
>>108799720
Is it really that easy? I haven't taken either the FE or PE yet, but I often see posts on Reddit about Egyptian and Pakistan civil engineering/electrical engineering students failing the FE 5 times in a row and only passing after spending 1 studying vigorously, so I've gotten kinda nervous about taking it next year.
>>
>>108800260
>1 studying
*1 year studying
>>
>>108800251
root access, maybe.
I own a samsung tab and I figured I could try some coding on it but realistically I end up just ssh'ing into my desktop and it's not a great experience. I should've bought an ipad.

For reading, note taking, sketching figures it's fine though.
>>
>>108800235
the laptop in your case is the "real computer". OP was garbling cock when he meant to say that tablets are not real computers.
>>
>>108792612
The year is 1985. People are graduating compsci without ever having owned a computer.
They log into the VAX through the terminals strewn about the campus or the good real VT102s in the computer labs.
>>
>>108792612
Thats a nice looking device though. Too bad it doesnt run linux.
>>
No zoomer graduating today will ever get a job as codenigger anyway, unless by nepotism
>>
>>108800182
Well your macbook doesn't have a proper os either
>>
>>108800718
yeah nah this is cope, macos is pretty much a linux distro and you can turn off almost all of the gatekeeping and safety bullshit with a few terminal commands. the only downside is that you can’t turn it off selectively most of the time, so you sacrifice actual security if you do turn those systems off, but macos is open as fuck
>>
>>108800406
It’s called a phablet i believe
