Why haven't you taken the TKL (or smaller) pill yet?
>>
Because I use Blender which makes heavy use of the number pad.

>get a separate numpad
>put it on the left when you actually use it
>still have that functionality
>and still have better ergonomics than with a 100% keyboard
>>
I'm waiting to see the same boomer comments I see every time in a thread like this talking about how important their numpad is and how everything else is for trannies, gaymers and zoom zooms. Say whatever makes you feel good old man. You're getting closer to your final days. We won't be listening to your stupid takes for a long time.

I use a numpad quite frequently for data entry (mostly when I'm balancing my accounts). But I just keep it to the left.

anything less than 100% is not a real keyboard
>b-but
Not a real keyboard.
>>
>>108795198
Very inconvenient, muscle memory says numpad has always been on the right

You can always add a second one on the left if you're a freak
>>
even my laptops all get numpads
just recently i remapped wasd to numtap on a game because that way I have more room on the keyboard
>>
>>108795279
>muscle memory
you can retrain that

>numpad on another layer in your path
>>
>>108795160
I tried it and I hate it. I use the num pad often enough that I went back to a full keyboard.
>>
>>108795160
Why haven't you taken the higher mouse sensitivity pill?
You should be able to reach every corner of your screen without picking up the mouse with the top config.
>>
>>108795160
Seriously why isn't the numberpad on the left? If I'm using the numberpad I'm usually editing a lot of data in excel or configuring a .json file and I have to take my hand off the mouse every time I want to type on the numpad which is way faster than the row of numbers.
>>
>>108795654
Path dependence. Keyboards are all sorts of retarded in that sense.
>>
>>108795160
Cause I have an adequate sized desk and arent built like a child who cant reach their mouse.
>>
>>108795160
I don't want a circumcised keyboard.
>>
i use home and end too much
>>
>>108795412
higher mouse sensitivity is bad for accuracy
>>108795654
if i'm putting numbers into excel, i just use one hand. i never mix between the regular alphanumeric keyboard and the numpad.
>>
>>108795198
I'm left handed so numpad on the right is perfect, only troons and fags want downsized mini keyboards
>>
>>108795160
I used it, hated it. You only have reason to use tkl if you're too poor and stupid to move keyboard left
>>
>>108795160
What kind of freakazoid would want arrow keys -> numpad -> alphanumerics? If you want a left handed keyboard have it be numpad -> arrow keys -> alphanumerics. If you want to save space for a mouse do numpad -> alphanumerics -> arrow keys.
>>
65% is the best layout
Still large enough to have Home/End/PgUp/PgDn and dedicated arrow keys while removing bloat like F-keys (put on an actual function layer)
>>
i have used a 65% percent keyboard for about the last decade. i have a separate numpad that i use when i for whatever reason need it. before that i was using a 60% for a few months, but could never get used to not having arrow keys.
>>
>>108797265
>higher mouse sensitivity is bad for accuracy
You get used to it. Just practice.
>>
>>108795160
I don't use a TV dinner tray as my desk.
If anyone genuinely tries to argue that space saving is a valid argument, that's a you issue. Get a bigger desk.
>>
I rarely use the numpad but when I have to it's a godsend
>>
>>108795160
I can't afford it a good mechanical keyboard, so I'm just using the cheapest office mechanical keyboard, which is obviously 100%
>>
>>108795160
I have wide shoulders and I use my numpad a decent amount
>>
>>108795160
keyboards unironically peaked with the Logitech K120
>>
>>108795326
sure I could, but why bother when the default type of keyboard is already the best?
>>
>>108795328
That's what I do on my tkl, numpad on a second layer
I need it because I'm an accountant and I'm too lazy to swap my keyboard to my normal one (and typing sucks on it)

I used to use TKL but I have wide shoulders and it makes zero difference in the real world for me.
>>
>>108795160
Because i do not use qwerty layout and need numpad to input numbers.
>>
>>108795160
I have an AULA F75
I definitely do not miss a numpad. I don't know why people think the alphanumeric section of the keyboard should be off centered.
>>
>>108795160
I switched to a 60% and it greatly improved my mouse ergonomics.
It's much more comfy and much faster to reach for the mouse.
>>
>>108795279
>muscle memory
Muscle memory can be re-trained quite fast.
>>
>>108795160
because I work on my computer.
>>
>>108795198
this is what I do, specifically because numpad on left makes more sense for my job. I don't really fuck with anything smaller than TKL though, I don't see any benefit to putting F keys on a layer or something.
ngl though it was fun to shop for a keyboard and switches and shit but I could never be the type to keep buying new shit. Get the perfect keyboard once and move on imo. The hobby is gay but I'm glad people are into it because it means I can get a perfect keyboard
>>
>>108798202
I've been using 4,000 DPI for years just because one time I tweaked it until it felt right and can't move on now. People tell me that's an absolutely psycho DPI but it feels right to me, never have to move my mouse more than like an inch. I play a really mouse accurate dependent game this way too and I'm really good at it. Probably holds me back a bit but whatever
>>
>>108795160
I actually use the numpad.

Moreover I don't really get the point of a smaller keyboard. I don't know if it's a manlet thing or everyone just live in tiny caravans, but having an extra 10cm on my desk doesn't really change anything.
>>
>>108795160
Because I have already invested money into a full size keyboard.
>>108795654
>Seriously why isn't the numberpad on the left?
Because keyboards weren't originally designed with mice in mind. The mouse came after, it was normal for people to use the keyboard with two hands and the numpad was part of that. The numlock key was originally for toggling between the numpad and the navcluster, which was introduced separately later.
>>
Keyboards were not designed with mice in mind, which is why normally you would type with the keyboard perfectly centered and thus also removing the issue of ergonomic strain caused by pushing the keyboard to the right, an artifact of mice coming into existence.

This was then dealt with by having a separate area for the keyboard under the desk which rolled out.

I'm much in the same boat.
I love mechanical keyboards, but I don't understand people that have a wall of them and never use them.

To these people their keyboard hobby is pretty much bugman buying hobby. At most they'll throw some lubciracted milky white purple pink kawaii dingdong switches on quickswap pcb inside prefab case and throw some keycaps that has kanas on them (despite not knowing a word in japanese). Some pictures, reddit updoots and sound recording later it'll just go on the cabinet next to other "endgame keebs" when they'll find out that pink purple kawaii slimjim switches exist.
>>
>>108799350
same, can't imagine ever bringing a date home to that shit
>>
>>108800987
to this day i am still in disbelief that there is a "keyboard community" on the internet and it's filled with people who look exactly like what you'd think of when you think of a "keyboard enthusiast".
>>
Because 97% layout is superior in every way. It allows me to have a compact keyboard but without losing any functionality.
>>
Because I have a collarbone, and my chest isn't sunken.
>>
>>108795160
I play fighting games with the numpad
>>
>>108801093
That keyboard only appeals to people who live in crowded urban hives or Mexican/Indian flop houses were they cram twenty people into each room.

retards hardcoded the arrow keys to move the camera
still a great game

moving the keyboard left is why the ergonomics are bad

>wide shoulders meme
first, no you don't fatty
second, having wide shoulders doesnt make the ergonomics any better
>>
>>108806070
Projecting much?
My TKL keyboard was literally in the exact same spot as far as its leftmost side sat on the table.
So I had to move my hand just as much from mouse to the alphabet keys and the extra mouse space was unused.
>>
>>108806070
I am fat but I'm also 6'5
>>
>>108806088
then you're retarded. the point of a TKL is you can have the alphanumeric keys (the ones you use the most) in the center of your body, aka the most ergonomic position, and still have a ton of space for the mouse
>>
> NOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU HAVE TO PUIT THE NUMPAD BY ITSELF ON THE LEFT BECAUSE..... UM.... ERGONOMICS!!!! YOU MUST HAVE YOUR RIGHT HAND ON YOUR MOUSE AT ALL TIMES!!!
