Linux performs great but the user experience is terrible, Windows performs terribly but the user experience is a lot better. Is there no 3rd option that isn't a meme?

but still (really) awful. and there is a third option but you are not gonna like it

Let me rephrase, customization is shit but windows shell works ootb and you don’t have to spend your weekend tinkertrooning to make it bearable
>>
>>108795647
>tinkertrooning to make it bearable
yeah, that's because you can't
>>
>>108795560
Yes, MacOS on a Macbook. But I prefer Linux nowadays. What kind of problems do you have? I feel like Fedora KDE is solid for new users. Just install all your crap via Discover Store.
>>
>>108795560
The best of both worlds is Windows 7.

General dissatisfaction, nothing feels cohesive on Linux (both a strength and a weakness), and I miss Paint.net. Linux performs very good when I’m trying to vidya but actual work is a meme. And im starting schooling sooner or later and I’ll be forced to switch back anyways on laptop if my course needs some kind of software that isn’t available on linux. I was thinking maybe running virtual machines but they feel choppy

hasn't been true for 15+ years
>>

There’s Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC, it’s just windows but no AI, you can uninstall microsoft edge, has a much longer warranty etc. Been using it on a thinkpad for a year now and works great.
personally use a script that replaces the taskbar with windows 10’s and open shell for the start menu.
>>
>>108797200
Does open shell even improve performance? It just makes it look like windows 7
>>
>>108797216
it's snappier because it's not written in react

not real

No there’s multiple options than just Windows 7, mostly use it cuz there’s no lag or weird animation, just clicks open pretty much.

It literally is though. Also the Win11 menu is just objectively bad UI design.
>>
>>108797229

It kind of is though to be fair, reminds me of when I used Windows 7

It's really not, if your IQ is just a little higher than room temp. Hell, if you can't afford nootropics and/or pharmaceutical speed to get those points up, just use it every day for a few weeks and you'll adjust, my nigger.
>>

macOS

But you do pay more for the hardware.
>>
>>108795560
Linux doesn't have any specific user experience, you can turn it into pretty much whatever you want or use one that someone did for you if you aren't into making your own custom ux.

In my case the user experience absolutely mogs windows and anything else because it's perfectly tailored to my needs.

But if you think the linux ux is just gnome or kde, then yes, i agree, those are absolute horseshit.

nta, Thank you for actually describing your issue with Linux. What you're describing is an ecosystem, most Linux users don't understand this because all they do is web, code and game. Linux has them, but you kind of have to build it yourself. Another option is to go all in on Ubuntu or Fedora.
I would also get a separate laptop for work.

i do use tinkertranny windows edition. its just all proprietary slop. if you are a FOSS jew IE just want goyims work for free then of course you cant run windblows without millions of hours of free work
>>
>>108797340
Thank you for wording it a lot better than I did, currently thinking I’m just dissatisfied with XFCE being very barebones and frankly quite obtuse OOtB so I’ll be moving back to Cinnamon as my primary DE, but then again it proves the point in my mind that I have to tinkertroon more than I actually use the damn computer for shit.
>>108797352
I’m not a FOSS cultist, I am not opposed to proprietary software, I want shit to work properly and would gladly take closed source shit over dysfunctional FOSS crap.
>>
>>108797443
then use stardock, but dont use it raw. windowblinds and start11 work best with everything.exe integration and explorer patcher. usually the best win11 experiance imho is a playbook patch. using revios but an older version, not sure if its still unpozzed.
>>
>>108795773
what DEs were you using/trying?
>>
>>108797443
You might be using XFCE but are you using a distro specifically configured for XFCE and your usecase? Like Mint is great for Cinnamon and home use. Beyond that you might run into some tinkering.
But honestly I can only tell you what works for me. I like Trinity and Devuan, so I use Exe Linux for home and Q4OS for my work laptop. A minimal Chromium fork and WPS office are great alternatives if your not a freetard. And I look for services that focus on one thing like pCloud for cloud storage to tie it all together.
Build your own ecosystem but instead of focusing on the configuration itself think about the harmony of your software stack.

And yes I actually used it for work and such. Visual Studio Community works fine if you ever need it, Word works fine, still bloated and felt gross and tried to cope with vim but it's just how it is right now.

>the user experience is terrible
This is because you want to use Linux like Windows, get in the Linux mindset and it's great, even better let go of the user mentality entirely, there's no such thing as a user, to use a computer is to program it through some interface with meight be a GUI or a language, you're a programmer if you're using a computer, but corporations don't want you to use a computer, they want to use you through the computer.
tldr: skill issue
>>
I want an OS that sucks my dick when I turn it on
>>
>>108798941
If sucking dicks were to be automated by computers you would be out of your job, that would be terrible.
>>
>>108795560
>loves the windows ui
you only love that shit because you're used to it.
>>
>>108795560
You make your own UX on Linux. You aren't capable of this. Stick with windows
>>
>>108795560
Linux is much easier to use than Windows.
