Making tools for game devs eco friendly / efficiency based software/Operationswhat should I do /g/?
>>108795953eco friendly would need you to focus on grant writing and all of that idiotic stufftools for game devs is oversaturatedlearn how to replace peoples toilets instead
>>108795953The overuse of electricity for no actual gain caused by inefficiency or diminishing returns is not talked about enough
>>108795963use case for toilets when india is the future?
>>108796136easier to redirect the human waste to the crop fields for sustainability
>>108795963what if I enjoy grant writing and all that stuff?
eco friendly? while multitrillion companies destroy and pollute in one day more than what humanity as a whole did from its inception until the industrial revolution? what for? do you also pee in the shower to save the sea animals or some shit?
>>108796578>do you also pee in the shower to save the sea animals or some shit?kek while not quite this example , I do take environmentalism pretty serious.>>108796578>while multitrillion companies destroy and pollute in one day more than what humanity as a whole did from its inception until the industrial revolutionand imagine if you can reduce those software emissions by 2% , I jerk off to those kinds of savings
>>108796686if you care that much youd have better results firebombing a fucking car assembly plant or some shitgo cut some tires around your neighborhood, the pollution of some faggot not going to work with his gigantic pickup truck for a day is probably more than what youll achieve by any program you code in a lifetime
>>108796786statistically and metrically no , if u even took a mundane example like a popular steam game and optimized it to save 1W of usage , across 1M players that's like driving from New york to LA, that's 2000 homes powered for an hour just cause I made a less shitty game
>>108796802...buddy... i dont know how old you are or if you just got lost on your way to /v/ but the only way youre making code eco friendly, specially in games, is if you hard cap the framerate alongside it.the cycles you save with performant code will just translate into higher fps numbersand anyway youd be better off targeting office users because theres infinitely more people doing that than gayming, go find a way to make libre office more performant or something, but at that point itd be more fun to firebomb shit
>>108796686the savings will just be used to buy and run more compute on the same level of energy. if you care about the environment my only idea is to convince jamal and co to rob data centers of their precious cats.
>>108795953why not both?
>>108797069cause I'm trying to position myself in a space career wise / professionally , they're kinda at opposite ends of the spectrum
>>108797094well game devs already have a shit ton of tooling and the game dev space is moving away from custom shit and into more almost webdev esque territory where everyone just uses some premade engine with premade workflows and tools and that's a prime target for AI automation right now.on the other side software that's efficient / low energy seems like new ground and personally i think there's going to be demand for that due to looming supply chain insecurity and an impending global energy shortage as the international supply chains reorganize themselves. plus it has real world impact not just some virtual shit. but what would you do, start developing for risc-v or something?
>>108797116lol I had to study MIPS when I was in uni , yeah thats one of the end goals, to write on that level (probably switch to RISC). But initially I would be targeting operations/cloud infra optimizations.
>>108795953Neither. I guarantee you're some type of faggot
