I'm cooked on the job market, but I think I'll still comp sci as a hobby even if I never return to the industry. I was thinking of just getting hella good at algorithms and understanding architecture deeply - and focusing on the joy of efficiency. But I'm not sure if this a problem space thats considered "solved" or not something people would seek you out for if you were to get really good at it. Are there areas in tech that you can pursue purely for the love of the game that are "hard" but aren't a waste of time? LikeI was debating going all in on unreal engine and really learn its ins and outs but then I thought - AI can just parse through all this shit and act as a pseudo expert anyway with decent success.

Web development has the best ROI. Any turd worlder monkey can learn a bit of Java, C#, PHP and Typescript to work with webshit. Salaries, at least in yurop, ranges from 40-100k/year. A 6 months boot camp is enough to get you good enough for web-shit.>muh, but compilers, C and whatnotDoesn't work like that. You will need years of study to be a decent junior. All that for basically the same salary as a junior web-shitter. It's not really worth it.
