Because MacOS is primarily a single thread CPU, they force one brunt core to do all the lifting, everything else just rests in the background until it tells the primary thread to do anything. Genius or retarded, who knows, but their ST score is high for that reason.

applications used to take a while to start, and would create a million different windows. Now they start instantly and have a single window. It used to make sense not to not shutdown an application just because you closed all the windows of it, and macos never updated when the landscape changed.
