and you have to select the letters with a laggy touch-pad controller that constantly overshoots your target, and to select them you have to click down on the touch-pad which often moves the selection away before entering, meaning to have to go all the way to the right to remove the wrong letter.

WHY IS EVERY TV SOFTWARE SO LAGGY
EVERY TV AT EVERYONE'S HOUSE HAS AT LEAST A 3 SECOND DELAY BETWEEN EACH ACTION AND FUCKED UP MAPPINGS TOO IT DRIVES ME TO WRITE IN ALL CAPS.
>>
>>108799906
Because post processing introduces lag. Turn everything off.
>>
Post a pic with either ABC or abc selected instead of Recent bc I don't even have an Apple TV but I'm gonna guess this is a shit post of someone who typed those characters in that sequence and then put it on "Recent" which is a really fucking stupid option anyway.
>>
>>108799915
>Recent feature
I'm going to assume this is for recently typed full-words and not intended for single characters. Because if that's not the case that's too crazy for me to tolerate.
You'd think they would filter out anything fewer than 3 characters if that were the case.

The real reason is it's for toddlers to look up baby shark and coco melon
They expect the adults to have other Apple devices connected and at arms reach at all times so you can use the Remote App to input text with your iPhone's on-screen keyboard
>>
>>108799738
What a dumbass take, console selection uses more rows so you travel less to reach any letter, this is a unique itoddler thing
>>
>>108799927
Would you really use full words on a login screen? That'd be pointless unless your recent was full passwords and email addresses. Recent is highlighted in his pic so the keyboard move mode is set to recent.

my roku ultra is extremely snappy. maybe stop being poor and buying shit products hmm?
>>
>>108800077
The roku is the most common set top box I encounter and it's bad.
>maybe stop being poor and buying shit products hmm?
I was given a roku twice and a firestick, I gave them both away.
A rasberry pi works better than this garbage. I don't think you understand how embarrassingly bad these products are. Cost is not even a point of discussion.
>>
>>108800092
you used the crappy models
again, stop being poor
>>
>>108800105
If the ultra is crap why were you saying it's snappy.
The firmware is free regardless and that's where the problem is.
Something with lesser hardware runs circles around it.

Since you're projecting, I'll assume this was a big purchase for you which is why you feel the need to justify it. Not to me, but to yourself.
>>
>>108800120
the ultra isn't crap, you didn't use an ultra. i know this because you lumped it into the same sentence as a firestick (lmao). q.e.d.
>>
>>108800137
>the ultra isn't crap, you didn't use an ultra
So your tactic is to try and tell me what I did, and you think this will convince me.
If you're content with the Remorse Ultra then that's your prerogative.
It's not good enough for me. I'm still listening if you want to try and sell it to me, for whatever reason. I wonder why you would be motivated to argue about it and try to lie to my face about the experiences I had with it. Hmm.

>because you lumped it into the same sentence as a firestick
I'm not sure what the significance of that is.
I got 2 rokus and a firestick as gifts over time.
Somehow this is supposed to imply the roku is a good purchase.
This also did not convince me.
>>
>>108799906
Slow CPUs on shit TVs.
I have a mid range TCL and a cheap TCL and the mid range one is much faster.
The apple TV is probably the most powerful tv box around so I imagine it doesn't have this problem.

You keep making assertions about me.
It comes across as goading. Is that what's happening?
If you want attention I can talk to you. Either about TV boxes or whatever is causing you to act this way. I imagine this is a distraction?
>>
>>108800238
why would i want to talk to a poorboy who can't even get a streaming box to work? lmao what a narcissist. go ask your momma to make you some tendies.
>>
>>108800265
>would
Present tense not future tense.
>why
That's what I'm asking. You're jesting like a kid but this isn't /v/ so it's probably an act and not sincere. So there's some reason to act that way.
>narcissist
I'm not familiar with the condition, but I thought that was self centered.
I'm extending my attention to you, to listen to you, because you're reaching out in an indirect/odd way. I don't think someone would do that unless they wanted some acknowledgment or interaction. Which is why I'm asking.
>go ask your momma
Aint got one. That'd be nice though.

You wrote that, not me.
I'm asking to talk to you because I feel like you want to talk to someone.
You wouldn't be trolling otherwise, would you?
Like if the roku was good you'd be watching shows on it, not posting here.
Something is off, and it's not just the TV.

Do you think iHomosexuals obsess over things like interior design and read good housekeeping? Were they the target audience for Queer Eye For The Straight Guy?
>>
The roku autism had me try and look up the specs for the thing, turns out they have a page for exactly that: https://developer.roku.com/dev/docs/hardware
The current "Ultra" runs on 4 A55 cores aka glorified microcontroller cores so the only way it couldn't have lagged is if the Roku software is extremely lightweight. Android TV lagged with these specs all the way back in mid-2010s.
>>
>>108800363
>thinks you need a ryzen9 to stream video
oof, how /g/ has fallen
>>
>>108800363
That's my experience and stance.
You're right that it's a low power chip but the hardware is not the issue since lower spec machines can do the same task just fine. You're right that it's likely Android + the rest of the software stack, which could be improved at no cost to the customer. A firmware update. It's clearly possible, but none of the vendors do it well. Not Roku, not Amazon, seemingly nobody except the people making custom posix boxes.

Side to this, I think Anon is just fishing for attention and isn't actually invested in trying to sell Roku's brand. I genuinely wonder what's got him acting that way. Can't be good.

>You're right that it's likely Android + the rest of the software stack, which could be improved at no cost to the customer. A firmware update. It's clearly possible, but none of the vendors do it well.
I realized that the reason they probably don't do this is because then they can't make and sell heavier machines at a higher cost. The software has to justify the hardware in their case, as opposed to making software that still works within the constraints.
>>
>>108800486
Apparently this thing sells for $99? Isn't that as much as an apple tv already?
You can try and squeeze something out of really shitty hardware but you'd be spending a lot of effort doing so especially if you don't have complete control over the software stack. Your 3rd party devs would have to as well. If user experience mattered it's much easier and cheaper to just slap more powerful hardware on.

>>108800501
There is no better roku than this "ultra" right now apparently and the specs for it hasn't changed since 2019.
>>
>>108800559
>There is no better roku than this "ultra" right now apparently and the specs for it hasn't changed since 2019.
My point is that if the software worked well enough to run on the non-ultra the ultra would not need to exist. It does exist and is better than their lower spec, but is still obviously not good enough. Not sure if that clarifies what I'm saying or not.

In regards to the ATV, I can imagine it being a much better product since Apple is known for doing exactly that with all of their products. A big reason macOS is exclusive to their hardware is that it enables them to hyper optimize for single SKUs like that. To somewhat good effect. Their machines tend to be pretty optimal in terms of perf and energy, with the obvious detriment being only a single machine can take advantage of that.

If I had to get one, I'd probably expect the ATV to win. But I'd rather have neither and make something custom for a 1/4th of the cost and 4x the features.
Most people I know have a game console already and they're hella responsive for media playback.
>>
>>108800590
No the ATV is just that much more powerful. Android TV would fly with that kind of spec.
>>

I don't put enough thought into it to have a concrete answer but it's kind of like a mix of recreation and study/exercise. We share space with these people so sometimes I get curious and want to understand them better, and the process of doing so is intentionally made difficult so it exercises my reasoning and patience, as well as my horrible English.
