>>108800231People overreact about how bad some FLOSS software is. But GIMP deserves the flak. Krita is great, Blender is a miracle, but GIMP is a fucking abomination. It must be because the GNOME developers are a bunch of misanthropic lunatics. If those programs were likened to cars, Krita would be a Prius, Blender would be a Ferrari, and GIMP would look something like this:
>>108800258This is just the kind of shit that makes me feel stupid for not securing a safe and not malware slipped crack for something like Photoshop or getting accustomed to using it for the last 10 years when I was still a student before going in to do things professionally in an actual pipeline
>GIMP>is for masochistsPottery
GIMP 3 UI sucks.
Gimp is alright once you've spent half an hour customizing it to your workflow. Without setting shit up it's borderline useless.
>>108800383It may not be perfect but I am still just happy I dont have to use the insufferable multiwindow crap it used to be.
anyone use this?

Sorry they changed what exactly in 3.0 this is exactly the same as what I'm used to in 2.10
The fact that you can just select something and move it and be in the middle of an operation and then shift r and rectangle something with that new selection LINGERING and suddenly taking priority is the most retarded dogshit ever
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN THIS SELECTION DOES NOT INTERACT WITH A SELECTED LAYER
>>108801144>>108801542you have to understand. gimp's entire point is to do things differently than in ps for the sake of it even when the ps way is faster. gimp devs will just find a way for a different action even when the workflow takes 5x longer to achieve the same result.
>>108801587>gimp devs will just find a way for a different action even when the workflow takes 5x longer to achieve the same result.ah yes please let me find some incredibly specific option to cancel the current selection or whatever and go through several drop down menus to do that for the rest of my lifeevery other program you just press esc or click somewhere else to cancel the selection meanwhile in gimp you get TANGLED UP IN 2394092332 PASTED FLOATING LAYER MODIFICATIONS AND BULLSHIT UNTIL YOU CAN CANCEL ALL OF THEM AT ONCE
>>108800231yeah you have to set it to move selected layer. the "pick a layer" option is completely retarded yet for some sadistic reason is the default setting.

>>108810102>want to add a border to text>copy existing text>layer to selection>grow selection>fill selectionThere's your destructive workflow that you'll have to repeat if you want to change the text. How in the world is there not a better way to do this in the year of our lord 2026? Doesn't GIMP have modifiers for non-destructive actions? Why not add one for stroke??? Why????????
>>108810159Because it just makes sense, I use GIMP exclusively (and professionally in my day job), GIMP and Inkscape are actually super underrated tools. Photoshop does have some nice features (like that face replacing tool), but its a nightmare to use. Converting the textual data in GIMP to a flat image is destructive yes, but you can just be more organised, and if unsure just duplicate and hide layers as 'backups'. Its quite straight forward once you get used to it and to me, anyway, makes more sense. It also has great bumpmap and normal map features for those looking to create textures for their video games (I have also done this). I understand Photoshop has this too though. There is a "Selection">"Border" option and multiple other ways to do what I did, I just showed you my method which allows me better fall backs for when I change my mind about how I want something to look. Also Lord is capital L anon. Give Him some respect. God bless.
>>108809336Imagine, if you will... picrel.Your layers and boundries are kind of like the plastic projector sheets containing your graphic. It saves memory whilst allowing you to work on larger and larger images, exported gifs become smaller with smaller layer sizes, you can put a bunch of layers together to work on them, then export them individually (how would my paralax graphics for a website look all as one, saved as one file, exported each as layers to use with my CSS). Loads of stuff.
>>108810102holy fucking shit even adding stroke to a text is needlessly complicated. and what happens if you modify the text in any way? gotta redo all the steps.
>>108810379If you can handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.
